Liverpool couldn't field Nunez because of a red card so Liverpool could only rely on Mohamed Salah to score goals and besides that it's true as you said that Liverpool also didn't have a good defense against Manchester United so they couldn't stem the attacks from Manchester United well so Liverpool's ranking in the standings is currently still in 16th place which is very close to the relegation group. And I think Liverpool will definitely try to get the win to save themselves in a better position.

I think that's what helped the Manchester United team in this game. They were confident in there defence line and you could note that, De Gea was better and impressive in this game. A bad defence would make the whole team look bad and that's one take from this game as, it gave way for all the midfield and forward to go all out and merely supports when Liverpool attacked. You could see the camera making flashes on Harry Maguire and he wasn't so excited on the bench.
It's been a week of surprises and Manchester United took the surprise to Klopp this time.

Who would have thought Manchester United would be this brave today to make Liverpool concede like this, even the bookmarkers weren't confidence in Manchester United that is why they increased the odds for many people to bet against Liverpool and I guess today is another lucky day for gamblers, I didn't stake any for today's match but I doff my hat for Manchester united.
I really hope they continue the struggle like this, they should do anything to defeat Southampton in the next round, if possible they should allow Casemiro to play next week along side with Ronaldo, may be they can work out something for the team.
