I can understand why a lot of people feel these protests went overboard but as a Liverpool supporter I also remember the fan protests during the Gillett and Hicks era, which led to the Spirit of Shankly co-op... which until today still discusses important issues with the club (and has been directly credited by the club's current owners as being responsible for them helping take over). Peaceful and solid coop, whose long-term vision is for supporter ownership of the club -- IIRC a similar to
Barca structure was proposed.
All this wouldn't have happened without fan protests (Liverpool protests had thousands at their rallies, but it was largely peaceful and just noisy, but it eventually forced the owners out), and people have short memories. ESL just opened up old wounds. Supporters are power. Let us remind the boardroom members often, and loudly.
ESL was really a bad idea all around, it didn't benefit anyone anywhere. Maybe UEFA benefited from it because they solidified their power and showed the world how much power they have, even worlds top 10+ teams getting together couldn't break UEFA down and create their own thing, so it had to disband from the fear of Uefa, as far as I know all the finalists of champions league were part of it as well yet they are still fighting there with a fear.
So long story short we are talking about ESL not being beneficial to clubs, to players, to profits, to fans and nobody overall. This is one of those times when the fans has to increase their volume and show a problem with it, you can't just have few people at the top making decisions, it has to be a democracy and fans needs to have a vote in this regard, if you ignore fans they will find a replacement for you this way.
