Hey guys. Love the ideas I've read in here so far. I just started with Qortal as it was recommended to me by a Devcoin (DVC) developer (Traxo on bitcointalk).

The timeserver sync and check on Windows is amazing! And very intriguing. Wink

Only problem I'm having is I've installed both the Windows EXE files from the latest github release, Qortal (the app 1.3.5) and the current UI. Running the UI and the app is no problem. It does use a lot of memory but I got memory to spare!

I just am stuck synchronizing the app at 68% but it says on the UI that I am stuck at just short of 60,000 blocks.

I have peers connected, are there ports I need to let through my firewall? Also my windows notifications said I received a message from a Qortal user when I ran the client first last night and I can't find it anywhere in the UI. Sad

The UI still has a few little bugs... such as the bug you're mentioning now...

I would suggest...

  • kill the UI
  • Wait for the core to be 100% synchronized.
  • restart the UI

See if the caching issue is resolved.

(This is literally just an issue with the UI caching the incorrect block height, and not displaying correctly, as long as when you mouseover the blue Q icon on the taskbar, and it says 'synchronizing xx% - height - xx,xxx' you're good, just let it finish to 100%.)

When it gets fully sync'd the icon on the taskbar, upon mouseover, will say 'not minting - height - xx,xxx', at which point you're sync'd. THEN start the UI, and you should be good.

Once you're sync'd and account created, go into 'communications - Q-chat' and send a message in 'Qortal General Chat' and I will send you some QORT so that you can register your name on the chain, and potentially join whichever groups you may be interested in joining on the chain.

You can also send me a PM on-chain by going to 'new chat' and sending to 'crowetic', and message me. Smiley

Giving it another go tonight - I hope I can sync. Smiley

you need to be sponsored in order to mint. you should read on the webpage and all the info there to get a deeper understanding on how it works.
That is correct. Also, check out discord: https://discord.gg/Pp4H6UK . There you can see if you can contribute to platform and gain sponsorship.

In Trade Portal I see only 'Open Market Sell Orders', but how to see 'Buy Orders' ?

That functionality has not been released yet. Coming soon. At this point, you can only purchase sell orders in full.

Hi to all.
I have trimmed Alfa Vedic podcast into 4 smaller videos. Each video is around 10 min, so it is pleasure to watch them Smiley. In video, topic is only Qortal, without talking about other crypto.
I think that now everyone who want to know something about Qortal should watch them, especially when you can jump to some topic which interest you most.

Thnx Alfa Vedic for allowing me to modify his original podcast, you can check it out here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hn_-UNInZ8U

Shorter videos you can check out on my channel, or one by one:
Channel:

Lot's of exciting things going on in the Qortal Community. Great tech, great vision and a committed community to see it through. Looking forward to watching this unfold and helping where I am able.

If you are just learning of Qortal, I highly suggest visiting the website, the wiki and the discord to learn more. The Discord is very active, so come by and join us.

Thank you very much for the detailed explanation.
It is very good that it is not necessary to re-download  DB every time to a new PC if you need access to the BTC.
What other coins do you plan to add to the Trade Portal in the near future?

Absolutely, that's what I'm here for at the moment, is to clearly explain the plan and details of the project in ways that people can understand. My pleasure.

At the moment, the plan is...

  • Build support manually for a library supporting LTC
  • Build support manually for local LTC support and internal LTC wallet

Every coin Qortal supports, we must build EVERYTHING manually, as there honestly isn't anything out there good enough to be part of our codebase, and since EVERYTHING in Qortal is TRULY DECENTRALIZED, the only way for Qortal's Trade Portal to function, is to have NATIVE support for EVERY listed coin on the platform.

This means that for Qortal to support a coin, our development team must build FROM SCRATCH both a library, AND a wallet, totally securely, to support the coin we're planning to list. So it's a little effort involved.

However...

once we list LTC, the next focus becomes THE VOTING SYSTEM. As this is the plan for the future of the platform overall. Everything is to be controlled by votes of the users, with influence based on their measured contributions to the network in the supported methods.

So we list LTC, then we build the voting system, and the voting system is then used to put up PROPOSALS to list other coins in the future (as well as make any and all important decisions on the platform.)

So we will do the LTC listing to have a faster, cheaper coin to trade with, then focus our attention on making everything we have perfect, and building the voting system, which then controls future listings, based on proposals and subsequent votes by leveled users of the system.

Hopefully this helps you gain some clarity with my current ideas for the future.

REMEMBER – This is a LOCAL WALLET, you are NOT DEPOSITING COIN anywhere. You are simply MOVING THE COIN TO ANOTHER WALLET YOU CONTROL inside Qortal.

That's awesome. True decentralization.
But how can I get my BTC private key if it's in local wallet ?
Suppose I am in another city and don't want to trade on Trade Portal anymore and I need to transfer my BTC.
The entire Qortal database is in another city, BTC inside this database.
Can you provide instructions on how to access private key?
After all, I will not take with me everywhere the entire Qortal database, which already takes 8-10 GB
.

You will simply log into your account on another installation of the core/ui and your same BTC xpriv will be generated and saved in the new db. You simply need to backup your Qortal Account, with the encrypted backup file, the BTC account will be the same for each Qortal account.

It is insecure to give private key directly. The most secure way to get back into the same wallet, is to import your encrypted saved Qortal backup, and do it that way.

I do not like the idea of dumping the xpriv unencrypted, it gives a method for the xpriv to potentially end up in the wrong hands. Doing it in the method described above will yield the same results in a much more secure fashion.

**Also a NOTE** - You do NOT need to sync the entire Qortal Chain, in order to make transactions on the BTC wallet. So... you can simply INSTALL the Qortal UI and core, then send the BTC out while it is still synchronizing, if you don't want a full Qortal setup on the other machine.

Something else to keep in mind - we WILL be offering a method in the future, to allow a Qortal install to NOT sync the entire chain, and only the 'top'. So you will in the future be able to utilize both Qortal, and BTC, without having to sync the entire chain.

We have, however, decreased the db size by quite a bit in the new version, AND made it so the sync times are a LOT faster... However, in order to get full advantage of the first point, you WILL have to re-sync the chain from 0 with 1.3.5 installed... unfortunately the older versions of the db retain the larger size and there isn't anything to do other than sync again from 0 then re-import your minting key if you're a minter. Keep in mind, if you have orders placed, you will want to remove them and put them back after the re-sync. (which you can do even after deleting your db, with the new feature in the UI to remove 'stuck orders'.)
