Brotherhood is love
A lot depends on the genes of the parents. You can be very vulnerable to gambling and it will be extremely difficult to get out of it. And for some, on the contrary, it's easy. I was close to starting to lose exponentially, but I stopped in time and ended it more than 5 years ago.

A few days ago I came across a youtube channel in which people tell their real stories about gambling that ruined their lives. I'll probably learn from their mistakes. If someone has a strong addiction, look, this will help you.

I do not think that quiting gambling has anything to do with parental genes. Gambling is not hereditary, it is just a socially learnt activity which has no connections with genetic formations.

Op, it is easy to quit gambling when it is not yet addictive. But once it becomes addictive, you will need a high level of discipline and therapy to quit gambling.

It might be too late at that point Wink

People and their attitudes vary, so you can't simply say that we should quit gambling, period.
Some people can control themselves and others cannot. Like, if you said someone who's a pro poker player to quit because it's toxic, he'd laugh at you.
It's the same with people like me who bet on sports from time to time. I like MMA and boxing and I sometimes bet to make the game more exciting. I don't do it often, maybe once or twice a month.
My friend buys more beer and snacks, I buy less and use the money to bet. We both have fun our own way.

Simply put, if someone thinks that they are addicted and they need to quit, then they should seek help. But most of the time the one who is addicted, does not know or want to accept that they are addicted. Unless they themselves realize it or people around them tell them about it, they will not understand that they are addicted. At this point, trying to quit gambling will be the best option. Addictions are just habits and hormone releases in our brains. It is never too late to do anything. Change the habit, and replace it with something good. You can quit it easily. But be sure what you are replacing it with will have to be something good. Give it a try and you will know. Dopamine detox is a thing and it is proven by medical science. So it's not that hard.

Addiction is best handled with caution and learning from other mistakes is also very important,  but the best possible freedom is never to get addicted in the first place because it could become a hard job trying to get out of your addiction and also it is best to learn from others mistake because that way you will avoid the mistake when to confront yours in the long run.
Our level of vulnerability depends on the level of our gambling involvement.

If you hate gambling that's your decision but I can't figure out why you decide to create a topic on this, are you trying to change the mind of many others? It seems you gamble with the money that you shouldn't have use and you lost it, just accept your defeat and be humble about it, you don't need to hate.

After all no one is forcing you to gamble, it's your own decision, instead of hating it's wiser to figure out what you did wrong, do you even think about the possibility? Next time use what you can afford to lose, your irresponsible way of gambling is what leads to your hate for gambling.

Gambling with what you can afford to lose won't hurt you or makes you become a useless person, have it in mind that there is a higher chance you will lose the money, so limit your amount of money to what you can afford to lose.
You have some very, eh, "original" ideas. You seem to be under the impression that those who don't enjoy gambling are cynical losers. Unfortunately, my dear buddy, things aren't always as simple as you make them out to be. To gamble is not always to lose money or to feel "forced" to do so

Possible explanation: they despise gaming because of the social and economic problems it causes. Like how it can lead to criminal activity, exploitation of the poor, and the promotion of a "get-rich-quick" mentality. Perhaps they've experienced the devastation it causes directly in their own families. A very distinct picture is emerging from my pen, don't you think?

Moreover, in regards to "responsible gambling,"... Sure, that's a line everybody can recognize. But have you ever considered how the boundaries between responsibility and irresponsibility may become hazy in the eyes of an addict? To put it another way: "Hey, you can play with fire, just don't get burned!"

The topic is like OP's sarcasm, why if he hates gambling why does he say if it's hard to quit or not? since i have read everything they have said, it has confused me a bit, because it seems to be something written to be dark humor, or to make fun of people who have had problems with the game, but in very conceptual terms, when it comes to leaving a particular game things are not so easy, if a person takes an addiction it is difficult to quit , responsibility and many things that have personality are quite debatable, but in a healthy sense I could say that quitting is not easy , just You have to stay somewhat away from the game and do other activities to entertain Yourself.

I am not quitting gambling because I am simply not addicted to it. If someone is going far from the base to quit the gambling then there is definitely something wrong with their routine when it comes to gambling. Only addicted person need to quit the gambling. I am fun taker, I love gambling because I love to play slots, I love to play the poker on Friday night with my friends and much more. It is not all about money all the time. Yes these games are played with money and that’s where we gamble everything.  Sometimes it’s winning and sometimes it’s loosing. I think both ways shall be accepted by true gambler. No need to go that far and just quit such thrilling side of the games.  Wink
You are completely right. The point is that people who can't gamble in a responsible way ends getting themselves in a lot of financial, social and emotional problems, and instead of solving their personal issues, they want everyone else to stop gambling as well, as it was the solution for the problem of a single person who can't handle gambling properly.

It's like the guy who can't have a girlfriend, so he starts hating everyone who has one, as it was an offensive act from others towards him.

Unfortunatelly authorities and regulators fuel this kind of pampered and childish behavior on adults by endorsing their narratives, instead of treating them in a sober way, putting the responsability of their acts over their shoulders. So we have a lot of bans and censorship that shouldn't exist at all.

Why would I quit something that I regularly enjoy but have no problems doing?

It would be quite easy for me to simply quit, since I am not addicted to gambling nor do I have any other hang ups when it comes to it. I understand that there are definitely a lot of people who do have addictions and therefore cannot simply stop their gambling habit, but that is a minority of people.

The better advice for normal gamblers without addictions would be to take careful measures in order to ensure that they do not develop a gambling addiction in the first place, don't you think?

And that is quite easy. All it requires is a bit of discipline and planning. Roll Eyes
Because for some people who have an excessive attitude towards gambling it ruins himself and those around him and maybe they want to share experiences, yes you are having good self -control so I also think you don't need to stop your gambling, whenever you want or don't want it You can do it.

For many or few people who are addicted to gambling in my opinion depending on their respective experiences in their environment or the consensus of the experience being encountered, but in my environment there are more addicted people.

Yes, that's a good advice, I also do as you say because we have good awareness and self -control, unlike those who are impulsive in gambling.

This sums up about minding our own stuff. If people do gamble for fun, those that are doing it for income wouldn't have a thing for those that does it for fun and vice versa.

You can't force people to stop what they've been doing for a long time just to enforce your thought and thinking.

Again we can't force any to stop gamble but we can and should advise them to quit gambling if it is hurting them or if we know anyone who is addicted to gambling.
Yup, advising is normal and it's up to them if they'll listen to us. If there's something wrong, they may not see it and someone has to remind them for that.

People may even get agree to you with that but since we're in a forum, discussions like this are typical and in the end, you only need to think of your own.

Yes of course, if can put ourselves in the scenario, where how we will react if someone asks us to quit gamble, sharing our point of view on this will be helpful to decide if it is easy to quit or not. If we think that we won't stop gambling upon asking other people, why would other people would listen to us and stop the gamble  Huh
Yeah.

You start with yourself before asking other people to stop or tell them what to do. That's why we need to think of ourselves first and so that others won't see anything that will discourage them just because we're advising them.

As popular quote says "there is no late to be better", it applies to gambling addiction as well.
If you say it might be too late to stop once it become an addiction, it sounds like that people do not need to stop in this stage.
Some time people need to experience the worst thing first to notice that what they do is completely wrong but ofc it is always better to avoid the worst case in the first place.
As other popular quote says "it is better to be safe than sorry", so preventing ourselves as much as possible from addiction would be better.

No matter who you are, gambling is only for fun. Never take it as income at anytime. If you are still gambling, you should quit now.
Sorry what did you mean?

If you know gambling is only for fun, you don't need to quit because you wouldn't become an addict or ruin your life to gamble most of your money to get profit.

The problem of why people should temporary quit from gambling is when they gamble in order to make more money. But gambling is full of luck and there's a house edge, you will high likely lose and the house will high likely become the winner.
When you gamble responsibly that is gambling for fun betting with amount of money you can afford to lose wouldn't give room for any form of addiction and total reliance on gambling as a source of income is very dangerous because it can ruin and rekt the gambler completely, I think the OP is referring to gambling addicts who had faced or are almost bankrupt due to excessive gambling to quit and have a rest of mind and I believe it is not applicable to us that gamble based on knowledge in the sport, for instance I am a soccer fan and I bet responsibly on soccer matches with a maximum of 3.0  to 4.0 odds while staking with small money, if I win that is fine if I lose I move on and wait for another opportunity.

Honestly in reality It depends on the gambler itself if the gambler want to continue playing in his favorite game then he can not control himself to stop in his addiction. Because the more he want to play or in his mind that game is his only thing he think then for sure he can not stop. But if the gambler have a good mindset and have a Discipline in his mind and himself ten for sure he can away from addiction.

It is not easy or hard to quit gambling, it is impossible. Gambler can only put his gambling career on a pause. We would better discuss when it is easier or harder to pause gambling. Imho it is easier when you win a lot of money. You dont have time to gamble, because you spend your money. Hardest time to quit of course if when you lose. Because you try to play back that amount. It isnt necessary that you gonna lose a lot of money again while trying to play back, but it will be a long lasting routine until you realize you have spent too much already.

I wouldn't say it's impossible...it can be easier or harder depending on one's character and how much he really wishes to stop gambling. There are people who are determined in their intentions, and when they decide something, that's it.

For now, I'm not even thinking about stopping gambling... there are some breaks here and there, but in general, I like gambling and I doubt I will ever stop. But who knows what the future holds?

Everything in this life is gambling, so it's no way to stop gambling.

You want to get a job and have applied to many companies, after 2 weeks there are 3 companies want to recruit you, now it's the time you need to choose. This is gambling because you don't know which one is fit for you.

You want to invest, there are 20000+ coins out there, your have a limited budget and you can't buy every coins. It's the time you need to choose aka gamble because you can't predict which coin perform better in the next week, month or year.

I think you should only quit gambling when it has become an addiction. You have said yourself in the OP that gambling should be only for fun and entertainment. As long as you can keep a strong mindset on that, I don't think it is necessary to quit gambling. Everyone has their own perspective and opinion on this matter. So telling everyone to stop gambling is total BS. Those who would like to gamble, they will still gamble no matter what.

Gambling addiction is a bad thing no doubt. It ruins life and could lead to many problems. Then you can ask them to join you and help them quit their addiction. Everything that happens is in our minds. So creating a strong mindset will be the best course of action if one is addicted to gambling.

Gambling is not a fatal disease that cannot be prevented, people can get rid of gambling addiction if they want to. For those who have taken up gambling as fun, it is not a problem to get out of gambling.
But for those who have taken up gambling as a career, it becomes difficult to stay away from the terrible addiction of gambling or to control oneself completely from gambling.
Especially those who take gambling as a source of income cannot be distracted at all. But it will only be possible if one wants to have self-confidence and challenge.
Yes, it's true, people always think that gambling addiction is a deadly disease, we have to distinguish drug addiction from gambling addiction, I think gambling addiction can still be cured at any time, for example, I used to be a cigarette addict and liked to drink alcohol, even I couldn't live with it. both, but with the belief from myself that I can stop by reducing it slowly, finally I can quit smoking and drinking alcohol. hardly ever touch it anymore

I'm sure it's a much easier way to let go of gambling addiction is to gradually reduce the time you play gambling so you don't gamble all the time, but if gambling is indeed a source of income, divert it by working or opening a business, for example trading looking for another activity and looking for a source. other income aside from gambling, I believe that slowly I will be free from gambling addiction as well as life becoming more controlled.

It's mind over matter after all. If we will not allow our urges to rule over then we will still be able to control ourselves from too much gambling. Yes, it might be hard for others but it is still curable and controllable as long as we will have strong self-control and self-discipline. It will take a lot of courage for us to get over gambling addiction. We can focus our attention on other things or keep ourselves busy doing other activities just so we will not fall deeper into gambling addiction.
Right from the beginning, we must set a target limit so we'll know when to stop. Chasing our losses is one of the reasons why many of us fall into gambling addiction. We should learn how to control our emotions and don't let them take control of our decisions.
