there are other very profitable coins at the moment, just check whattomine, also it is known that when bitcoin skyrocket all the coins have more value, so even more profit, i doubt all this profit will be dead in 1 month

and besides all this, all the people with very cheap electricity will always have something to mine

Back in April, people actually switched to other coins like X11 or Feathercoin and in the end the price per day was the same as mining ETH.

That was quite brief period. At present, the hashing rate for the Ethereum is so high, even 1% can kill any other coin.

Yeah but by the time they are available to buy, price of ETH can be half what it is today and difficulty could be double.

I remember making very good money back in middle of March. I mostly sold for USD as soon as the ETH was mined.

Then less than 1 month later, they were days when I made less than half from a month prior.

Its not worth waiting

it seems that the 480 will be priced a little higher, than expected, at $229, still worth the buy if it will deliver the promised hash, 25MH or so

Something tells me that right now you are better off buying a 390 and mining today rather then waiting and buying the 480 in the future even if you have high electricity costs.

depends on if you can handle the heat i had 2700 worth of hash 1300 worth was 390s but i would get alot of unstable and overheating rigs in my mining area so i sold the 390 hash and replace it with 3 rigs of nanos and now i have virtually no downtime or random events of 5 or six rigs going down my hash is only 1700 now but far more stable
going forward im waiting for 480s 470 or more nanos

It's right at 2 weeks before launch on the RX 480 - the reviews should start popping up any day now, probably limited by a timed NDA as a guess.

We need a leak of the mining performance or about the memory intensive applications. We need to decide  early.

With the price bump in ether the wait for this card to get released feel like forever and then we don't even know how well it will perform.

Yes. I am thinking if I should wait another 16 days or buy some R9 390 now. I can start making money now.

Depens on if you dont have a problem with the heat and power drain of the 390s  if you have power under .10cents i would say buy as many 390 as you can as long as you can cool them

the 390s run HOT and also the 970s as well , compared to the nanos and these newer cards which can mine at full power at 70degrees easily even in a poorly ventilated area like mine.

People always worry about power use but the bigger issue is the heat, the higer the power drain of a GPU the more heat it will generate and you have to be able to counteract that somehow.

also this will lead to increase in cost, because to cool down each of those rig you need additional fan that are not free, and increase the overall consumption

i added industrial noctua now that we are in summer, and they are expensive
yeah  and fans can only do so much its curious to me that unlike the 1000 series where we had a fe in the wild two weeks before luanch we have not a single review on a 480 or 480x is the card gonq be delayed ? i stopped most of my card buys (nanos) waiting for the 480 benchmarks which i really regret no with th craZy price spike these last days waitinv for news on the 480

Or what if it's availability lacks due to a number of hungry gamers/miners and they'd be available at a price much more than $200?

I dont think gamers will be super enthusiastic about this card - R9 390 will be better for games

Gamers do not care about power cost so you are correct.

This card will be more for our needs the miner.

Oh wow, you are exactly in the same boat where currently I am. Pretty same question.

The place where I live, I've to face $0.15/kWh. So I guess I should wait for the release of 480. But then, what if it doesn't go well with the mining, since no one has tested it with mining so far? Or what if it's availability lacks due to a number of hungry gamers/miners and they'd be available at a price much more than $200? Then all the waiting would go straight in waste.

Till the release of R9 480, the difficulty to mine ethereum would definitely increase as well. But that should not be the problem as long as the value of ethers increase at the rate at which it is currently increasing.

I think I will run the R9 390 at around 0.95V and 930 MHz, that would make the efficiency higher, but still less efficient than the 480.
