So , when is the big PD campaign coming out? Heard a lot about it and their nice rating method too, but no news since! Hope it comes out soon, really liked their way of grading posts Smiley

Quickseller is still listed under Payment not yet confirmed and he's paid a couple of people, and you're also still listed as bitcoininformation on the escrow for bitdice.
Hahaha. How could I have missed that? Updating the OP right now.

Given the lively discussion that this generated, and the fact that I'm obviously not the only one who was bothered by this, it probably is a good idea to ask Theymos or badbear to review their earlier decision.

Why don't you do that, and also create a separate thread to discuss the intricacies of advertising on BCT, since you don't have any interest in this thread. There doesn't seem to be any reason why subscribers of this thread looking for news on signature campaigns need to be alerted with posts about your "campaign". Yes, I'm aware of the irony, but really really getting sick of this discussion here. Please start your own thread, post a link here, whoever wants to discuss it will follow.

I'm pretty sure that the stuff you're looking for is in the OP and that bitcoininformation edits the "topic" to show when he's last updated that.  I'm sorry you don't like what's being discussed on this thread, but shit, I *do* have an interest in it, because I used to use it before it was commercialized.  One thing I took from the reaction to my one off comment was that I'm not the only one who didn't like the ad---and who likes it even less now that he's staff.

Only now noticed this ad talk is still going... I see no issue whatsoever in it being there. OP manages its thread the way he thinks it is the most convenient and the ad is related to what this thread is supposed to be about Smiley

No matter where I hosted that poll, it can be fixed and manipulated. If I did it on Bitcointalk, new accounts can be used. If I did it on Strawpoll, proxies can be used. If I did it anywhere else, the same principal applies. Marcotheminer has pointed this out already. If you want a forum poll, I will make one. If you want a longer poll, sure. I don't mind.

Except that, as was pointed out, an internet poll up for a few hours isn't a good measure of "what the community wants".

We cannot rely on an internet poll with 15 votes to decide on something this sensitive. Internet poll can be fixed easily.

I'm not surprised that bitcoiniformation is keeping the ad, I'm pretty sure he was going to do so either way.  The straw poll was cute, tho.
I would have removed the ad if people wanted it gone, as I am a man of my word and I listen to what the community wants. I have always done that and I see no reason why I should stop that, because of an ad I have in my thread. You are accusing me of keeping it anyway, no matter what people voted, which is offensive to me. If you don't like it bad luck, I'm not here to please everyone.

Except that, as was pointed out, an internet poll up for a few hours isn't a good measure of "what the community wants".  What's more, you obviously have an interest in keeping the ad, so that doesn't make you an unbiased polltender.  FWIW, I didn't even get a chance to vote in your poll because I was away from the forum for about a day and a half.  How do we know that your votes for "keep" aren't merely all you?  In general, the poll on an external site it pretty weak evidence for the "will of the community", in my opinion.

If you really feel like this thread shouldn't have an ad, you can always contact theymos and badbear. They gave me the rights to add it and they can revoke it as well.

Where can we discuss the upcoming PD signature campaign if it's not here?

Obviously the PD thread but there's not much to discuss and there's not much point speculating on it to be honest. I'd just wait for further updates from stunna but don't hold your breath.

I agree there is not much point speculating, all have been said, it is why I don't post on the primedice thread. We will see when it opens.

Nowadays he's staff and I bring up the question again about this ad and his special exception.
Like I said before, I'm not in charge of making that decision. I don't get special privileges. The only "power" I have is over the Dutch subsection, which I moderate.

This thread is not community owned. The thread (like the rest of the forum) is owed by theymos.

You're funny.

But if you took what I said in context you'd realize that I wasn't talking about who owns the computers or who owns the domain but rather I was referring to the fact that nearly two years ago there was a thread run by Rannasha which laid out the overview of the situation for the sig-ad campaigns.  While obviously only a single OP has the right to edit his/her post and therefore keep the thread up-to-date, it was understood that it was community effort therefore people posted in the thread when there was news to report so that the OP could be updated.  bitcoinformation took up that mantle of leading that community when Rannasha stepped down.  Some time ago, he decided that he needed to get paid for this and put up an ad.  I stopped visiting since then.  At the time he put up the ad he had to ask staff for a special exception to the rules about ads in the threads.  He got this exception.  I objected at the time, and, as I said, stopped visiting the OP.  Nowadays he's staff and I bring up the question again about this ad and his special exception.

I'm not sure that your point about who owns the forum is relevant here.  Nevertheless, thanks!

Well, I'm quite happy to see the lively discussion.  I'm not surprised that bitcoiniformation is keeping the ad, I'm pretty sure he was going to do so either way.  The straw poll was cute, tho.

Diamondcardz of course hates on my opinion.   Personally, I feel quite vindicated that I'm not the only one who notice that a community-owned thread has been coopted for personal profit (even if it is a small amount).  Also, I guess I'm not the only one who feels that staff doing this is different than non-staff.

Again, haters, I'm not going to start my own thread, I just simply don't use the OP of this thread anymore.  It's really not too hard to see what's going on with sig-ad campaigns by just looking around in services and services-discussion.  It is a forum and we *do* have search.

Nevertheless, if anyone does end up starting a community-owned non-for-profit overview thread, I'd probably start using it again like I used to use this one, and the one before this one that Rannasha ran.

Peace and thanks again everyone for the throughtful discussion.
This thread is not community owned. The thread (like the rest of the forum) is owed by theymos.

It is not uncommon for information dense OP's to have advertisements on them. The reason you do not see them very often is that there are very few contect dense threads/OP's. If you want a good example of threads with ads that are also content dense look at dogie's threads regarding various mining equipment in the hardware section of the mining section
