Actually I think what happened in previous trading game competition was that many players who want to participate were maybe not familiar with rules of the game or say how to play it.Although you made clarification about choose up or down and bust price but still many didn't grab the last opportunity.But in the next game maybe we witness slight higher number of participants which will be good.Some learn from the first one to take part in the race to be an effective player.

The purpose of giving free money/faucet/worthless coin is for testing the casino whether it's fair or not, verify the bet, or to know how's the game work. AFAIK Rollbit was give free money in the past on their Twitter, but right now they didn't give it again.
