Good thing is that he didn't cause any damage. And boy he could, if he just posted that he is dumping his coins we'd flash crash like never before.

Any chance this is all FUD because of all the good news today for Bitcoin!

Apple striking back ?

I think it's a hacker who owns a large amount of Bitcoin himself and doesn't wish to actually hurt bitcoin, as he could of done truly worse things...like pretend that satoshi was going to sell off his bitcoins which would cause a immense price drop.

If he does own a lot he could also have pretended to be Satoshi and released a message that destroyed the private keys to 99% of his mined Bitcoin. Instantly the price would have spiked up quite violently.

or even better, actually send the coins to a "burn address" Wink

I was talking about the hypothetical situation where the person who broke in is not Satoshi but does possess a lot of Bitcoins. Then he could increase the market price by declaring (as Satoshi) to have deleted (or lost) the private keys to most of the mined Bitcoins.

it would be an obvious attempt to game the market if satoshi just decided to announce that he lost his coins.

Well, he had to wrap it into a nice little good bye letter from Satoshi in which he says he's doing well, proud of the community etc. etc. Make an anti bank statement and then say: as my final gift to the Bitcoin community etc. etc.

I think a lot of people would fall for it and no-one could know with 100% certainty it was not him.

Caution with the food and don't sell because of what people say.

We're talking about Nakamoto, the founder/s of Bitcoin.

Looks like this hacker is just doing it for the lulz, providing the day's entertainment for their fellow Goons, /b/tards or whatever. They don't seem to understand bitcoin, which is probably just as well.

This is big news

Not really. This is very likely just a single troll. He probably got the idea of using [email protected] to post to p2pfoundation.ning.com from my post here. The dox stuff is probably fake.

I for one am disappointed in the level of trolling displayed here. He could have done something amazing and hilarious with Satoshi's email address, but instead he made a couple of lame jokes, and now everyone knows that the email address is compromised.
The hacker could have posted a donation address from the p2pfoundation account and would likely have made a lot of money (people are dumb).
They just did. https://blockchain.info/address/19pta6x1hXzV9F5hHnhMARYbRjuxF6xbbV

GMX either expired (or Satoshi killed it at some point) and he re-signed up. I have a feeling Satoshi, a cryptographer of obvious skill, was not hacked by someone guessing their password or fiddling with security questions (I rule out a proper hack as hinted at here. The one guy who managed to be anonymous in such matters is not gonna be doxed like this).

Just be grateful our hacker friend was playing jokes and not a scammer. I don't see how it will effect the price anyway.

Is it possible that he deleted the e-mail address @gmx when he left the project and that it has been recycled?  Someone else may have been able to sign up, then use the reset password feature on these other sites.  It is likely that the @gmx address would have been destroyed at the conclusion of his participation in the project, as all relevant information and e-mails have been public from the beginning.

1) Satoshi finishes with Bitcoin and deletes GMX account
2) He does not delete other accounts (sourceforge, i2p, etc)
3) GMX account is recycled after x period of time
4) Person signs up for @gmx account after it is recycled
5) Passwords for other sites are reset because they still point to the @gmx e-mail address as a recovery
6) Person tries to profit by extortion and fails

This is probably the most likely scenario... and they probably don't have any of Satoshi's information because it is unlikely that any e-mails were still in the box when he re-set up the @gmx address.

Most probably this is what has happened. Dorian uncle is not so dumb to keep his Pvt. keys in the old inbox.

At least it is clear that the 'I am not Dorian' post was not by Satoshi. That made no sense at all.

How is that clear at all?
