It's true that ASIC hardware will net you more kH/$, but part of the attractiveness to cloud mining is that you don't have to deal with logistics (e.g., cooling), or electricity costs. In the case of Scrypt CC, they take 8% from your earnings - 5% goes to the person who referred you (SCC keeps the 5% if you didn't use a referral link), the other 3% for overhead. 8% is considerably less than the overhead for a GPU farm, and just a little bit more than that for most ASICs. In addition, reselling used hardware is a pain and the resell price will necessarily be much less than the retail; cloud hashes are much more liquid, and can even appreciate, although I'm thinking the price will naturally inflate as the supply of hashes increases (especially with the onset of Scrypt ASICs and Scrypt-centric data centers).

Let's compare Scrypt.cc to three other popular scrypt cloud mining options focusing on cost per kH/sec mining power, using the current bitcoin price of $415:

  • Farm$hares equal to 5900 kH/sec would cost $1119. Cost per kH/sec: $0.19
  • GAW Miners is offering a 5200 kH/sec Gridseed ASIC blade miner for $1610 with free hosting for a year. Cost per kH/sec: $0.31
  • Scryptsmining.com shares equal to 5200 kH/sec would cost $1841 for 87 shares at bitcoin price of $415. Cost per kH/sec: $0.35
  • Scrypt.cc shares equal to 5200 kH/sec would cost $3213. Cost per kH/sec:$0.62

Wow all those web sites look terrible Sad

Gawminers is probably the nicest...

FarmShares - Out of Stock and limited to LTC & FTC, good luck with that.
Gawminers - Is point at your own pool and probably will have very little value in a year since it is ASIC and limited to scrypt
scryptsmining.com is a known scam site.

Inspection shows that scrypt.cc is two to three times the cost of the alternatives.

The referral earnings is a known bug, every now and then somebody complains, but that it's a known bug doesn't mean it's happening all the time to everybody. Working for most people.

If you want out I will gladly take your khs off your hands  Wink

no way - as i've specified; the only earnings i'm making are my own mining. I want the 'bug' to be fixed and my referral earnings credited.
Then when they are i'll buy some more KH/s - as long as it doesn't take too long to sort out.

I have loads of refs, raskul, and none of the issues you have, so whatever's broken, it's not total shambles. Hope it gets sorted though.

strange, i've been informed the referral earnings issue is a known bug, so if it's only me who has these problems (and my previous support ticket about it got deleted)..

shenanigans...

Well, don't get angry with me. I'm just saying that the best next moves for scrypt.cc are in fact implementing 2FA and 24/7 customer support. More then implementing new layout, features and so on. The Ponzi remarks keep popping up and that's partially because it can be very hard to get in touch with somebody. I have no doubt they are doing their best, but it's not enough. Moving this whole thing to the next level may be too early for them, I get that also. I'm just hoping that at least 2FA and better support are a nice in-between.

forgive me for not being totally up to speed with what is occurring with scrypt.cc but the whole entity seems to be a total shambles.
last month there were screenshots of a new website and plans which will be implemented 'soon'

NO.

the system is broken, referrals are not being credited and scrypt.cc are getting some massive buyers (my most recent referral paid over 3.5 btc for KH/s.)

I think it's about time someone (whoever is running this shambles) got their finger out from their ass and started treating this like a business, rather than an off-the-cuff hobby. The earnings it's bringing in are not small in any way.

Get this shit sorted.
Please.

2FA and customer service are the two next best big things indeed.
But for now, use the two emails lockdown on your account so anyone with access to your acount would also need to have acces to both email addresses (and remember that IF you withdraw. you are required to respond to the link in an email on BOTH email addresses)
Customer service here, well, TheCleanGame is the closest thing to such support, but he's been partially banned. He can't post or send messages. There have been rumors of 24hours support kicking in soon, but as with all improvements, that estimate is "soon"

I posted above about how SCC only requires a 4-digit pin, and others added that you need to confirm by email to withdraw BTC (and you can lock in two email addresses).

It looks like 2FA is on the way, anyhow: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/scryptccref-baagt-unofficial-beta-updates-thread-514215
I'm glad the devs are working hard, it's likely that more features will be added so long as people want them.

If you decide to try Scrypt CC out, here's a link: http://scrypt.cc?ref=bab0M
(it's a referral link, not trying to 'trick' anyone Smiley )

Edit: Oh yeah, someone wrote a snazzy auto-reinvest script, which makes a small huge difference (via more frequent compounding) if you plan to buy more hashes: https://scrypt.cc/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=16

^ did the calculations, can show equations + plots if anyone is interested.

I am still awaiting the audit on my account. I now have some pretty hefty referrals as well as my own mining contracts on scrypt.cc - and where my mining returns are being credited, none of my referrals are being added to my balance.. this has been going on for more than a week now. 14 referrals (six active) and no returns from them. Since my last support ticket has been deleted, I've asked again today, in a new support ticket (the old support ticket was not resolved, simply closed)

Wow that sucks  Sad Hopefully it gets resolved.

ps. i'm a journalist. lets hope it gets fixed before i go back to work on monday.  Cool

ADD: my largest referral should be earning me ~502satoshi every 10 mins and my smallest <1sat. seeing none of this being added - previous support ticket (which has been closed and deleted) advised this was a bug in the system and that my account would be audited.

Hello Rus,
This is a known bug that will be fixed soon, once it is fixed a audit will be ran on all the affected accounts crediting all the BTC that did not get credited.
Sorry for the incovinience.
Take care

It would be really nice to know why a support ticket is deleted.  Shocked

it would be nice to see some form of customer service on this thread, actually.
assuredly, i'll be the first to post when this issue is resolved.. i don't have huge hashpower in scrypt.cc and as with my other cloud contracts, i was analysing; waiting to see the value of purchasing before going in with a large amount of BTC.
I'll post again with any updates (or an article on monday evening)

So payouts are working fine, and meet the projected profit rate pretty closely (400 kH purchased).
I am definitely concerned about the quality of the site, and the security, though. For instance, no 2FA anywhere, although a 4 digit pin is required to make trades. A dinky 4 digit pin makes me nervous...

You also have to respond to an email when withdrawing btc.

You can put in two emails and lock them.   That way both emails have to be responded too and the only way to change them is with a support ticket.    This is important and many people that have been hacked have been through getting email addresses to be changed.   If you lock the addresses they are going to know you don't want them easily changed and at least it buys time.

Also you can split your holdings into multiple accounts.

Personally, I find the typical 2FA used (Google) pretty weak because up can route the voice to any phone you choose.  It is probably much better if you happen to own an Android device.   Not much help for me in Japan, although Android tablets are getting pretty cheap so I might go that way.   For work I use RSA 2FA and that is a pain in the butt but really strong.
