This seems to be a recurring theme that's just being played on repeat. A user complains loudly about all the "great newbie posts not getting merited". An offer is made to provide links to these posts so we can shower them with merit. We get no response. The user in question then either conveniently forgets about the whole thing or disappears altogether. Then nothing for a few weeks until the next user complains and the whole thing starts again.

I meant "no Merit at all". I often read about those mythical good posts that go unmerited, those are the ones I'm after.

It is a great initiative but the Reputation section is not that popular among the newbies. We need a different type of advertisement for this one, like suchmoon has the click-bite link in his signature, otherwise it will continue to be unnoticed.

I am agree with LoyceV idea. We can find few post like who deserve merit, especially those post have unmerited. And obviously shouldn't collect own post Wink

. On the other hand if we have sendable merit then it would be better to send merit like that post who deserve merit on your opinion. We can do it without asking admin. There is more important work waiting for admin, so I don't think we should give pressure for new features. Whatever possible we should help expect give pressure to admin.

this is a great idea , i just hope that merit sources won't spend all their merit on only topics suggested by others, and still explore the forum the way they doing now, of course it's a plus to find all the deserving topics in a single place, but sure thing many good posts will not be reported here.

I don't want to clog up this thread with a discussion about this, but when Theymos tweaked the system in September, when a lot of Jr. Members were busted back down to Newbie rank, there were a lot of them trying to make the best posts of their lives in Meta, hoping to get that all-important 1 merit. And usually the posts weren't all that good anyway; they were just longer.

The merit system was designed to suppress the shitposters from ranking up. I really don't want to merit the one post that's decent from a user whose post history is 99.9% garbage. I might do it if that one post was good enough, but it'd be a tough decision--because I don't like to see shitposters getting merits.

I don't know why but for some reason when merits first appeared I thought they "recharged" after a given amount of time, so I gave out merits for posts that made me laugh, were topical or hard hitting. I even went back and gave merits for older posts that I still recalled months/years later. Above all when giving out merits I only ever gave out one merit per post; I think it's absurd to give out ten, twenty... fifty merits for a post. (Selfish really) Alas, no recharge and the jar is now empty. If I come across any I feel are worthy I'll seek-out this thread (this is my way of posting so I can follow the thread)...

...but I think I'm going to be a little selective in which posts I choose to nominate.

I'll keep an eye on this thread, rain some merits when appropriate, and will try to track good/bad reports (very subjective of course).

I'm gonna be really pissed if this works better than my signature. On the other hand, that would prove signatures are worthless so theymos can remove them at any time without any ill effects.

Edit: in about a month 20+ posts had been merited and 100+ merits had been distributed via this thread. Sir theymos, feel free to remove all signatures from the forum, they're worthless, TYVM.
