I remember reading, somewhere, that it was better to hook it up to the psu. I can't remember where I read it. I'll get the picture in an hour or 2. My other miner is on it's way, and i have to go get a psu and an additional fan. It will be here by 12:00pm, so within the next 4 hours and 50 mins.
It is only better in the sense that the fan will then run at 100% all the time as opposed to being controlled by the unit.
Speaking of fans. You can make the stock fan run at 100% all the time by just removing the blue wire leading from the fan to the connector. Just use a small precision flat head screw driver and push the pin out. I read about that in another thread. Sorry if you already know this.
Lowered my temps a good 5-6 degrees. Great as long as you don't mind the noise.

I will say these newer machines are a beast. My first miner has the black/red terminals and the second one has black/yellow terminals.

Miner seems to be quite hot, so I want better cooling.
Installed fan is very powerful (1.2A), but working too slow IMHO, I'd like to give it more blow

If you remove the blue wire from the fan connector, the fan will spin a full speed all of the time (~3500 rpm). Note that this may shorten the life of the fan, so try it at your own risk.
I added a fan on the back side to suck out more hot air. It cools nicely.

Well, my first thought was to unplug fan connector from board and put to the fan directly 12V from PSU. But blue wire removing, I guess, would work either )) keeping speed monitoring also
But that's not what I really meant. I was thinking more about some config modifications to adjust PWM values or so.

Just did the big, "you big dummy" I forgot to change my ip address on my other miner. So I just knocked off my running miner. I'm getting those pool errors again.

Check your DNS setting. if it is set to 192.168.1.1 change it to 8.8.8.8

From what I have read it is just a cosmetic issue. If it bugs you just reboot it.
I just checked and now it's back to all "o". Guess that most recent firmware it has didn't fix this as claimed, but yeah it seems cosmetic I guess since pool rate actually went up 5 GH/s on average the past few hours.

I think I received an defective AntMiner S1, order # 00120140119115357875yd15x6b80688. This is the second one i ordered last week, 2014-01-19, and received it today, 2014-01-24. The previous one worked flawlessly. This second one, tried to set it up the same way I did the last one but no lights come on, nothing. Can NOT even see it on my computer as the RJ-45 port does not work. The only thing that came on is the fan spinning. How do i get RMA? Thanks for your help.

Is there any consensus on whether it's ok to ignore the "ASIC Status" indicators? Mine started off all "o" yesterday, now today is all "x". Yet hashing continues at same rate on the status screen and at the pool. Using a high end 1000 watt platinum PSU so unlikely there is any power probs. I checked and this antminer has the latest 12/26 firmware.

I believe that you need to set your DNS server to 8.8.8.8 in the web interface.
If you don't know the IP of the machine then just use Advanced IP scanner to find it on your network.
