true some are on wood, fan is top side so I dont think it makes much of a difference vs the ones directly on metal rails, considering the high ambient temperature...in winter all will be fine.  And they run a bit more than 80%...1000w evga's GQ, solid PSU, running anywhere between 750 and 930w depending if im dual mining or not. (at the wall, 120v, so on 240v its a little less due to better efficiency).  Breakers all run at less than 80% all up to code, but the PSU's themselves dont really need to if they are quality (of course you are correct lifespan with high temp is shortened).  Warranty is 7 years though...

generally they are heavy duty, but to be specific it takes only a single electronic component (like an IC or a capacitor to fuck up) to get in an uncomfortable position to accumulate heat and it can cause some weird behavior if it did not die a clean death.

i always prefer a clean death because it is very easy to identify the cause of the problem (stability issue), rather than finding the cause of the problem by the process of elimination..while weird problems takes time and effort to identify..like my 1000w seasonic PSU (I mentioned up thread) which causes restarts if it powers the system and gpus but as a secondary psu, powering only 2 gpus it was very stable.

there is a side of seasonic 1250xm that gets hot like when you touch it you would remove your hand immediately, that side I would not dare lay it flat on a surface...other PSU are of different make and build but still..you get the idea.

Depends on load.  If he does 80 percent 24/7/365 it needs decent air circulation

it is still best to do a "good practice", as a crypto miner sometimes we switch algos often/seldom/always and consume higher power..by doing so it may not come to our minds that we should give more air circulation to the psu, and by doing a "good practice" we can prevent them from happening.


yeah  more air is better for psu's  not worse.

I some times use these under gear for air  as they  do that and prevent shorting  if you take your time  they can be purchased at 5 dollars for 1. you need 1 per  psu

 they also work  for other gear  when I do the 6 card riser less I will use 2 or 3 of them  under the mobo

Only if you register them.  it is 3 years if you don't go to the website.


@ generalt   when I pull in the car  a kia forte    if it was running  for an hour  and is warm  it adds to the temp in the room.

At the moment I am very high  power use  on the 24/30 amp pdu.

 I am at  21 amps is 21 x 240  = 5040 watts =  about 18000 btu  so  the garage is 93f.

I am only mixing the air  ie  no exhaust out of the garage.  and house ac is on.  

So my house is

 93-95f  in the attached garage
 80-83f in the   1 bedroom den/ walkout basement
 77-79f in the upper level  3 bedrooms dining living kitchen

This is temporary
the r4 is 4 amps  and I ship it on Monday
one pc 2x 1080 ti's  is 2 amps I put it in my friends office

so I will  drop down to 15 amps  by monday.

I have 2x 30 amp breakers  at 240 volts  I could run 10000 watts in the house.

 I have done it,  but  that is 38000 btus.
I simply  don't do this I put gear in the solar array and in my friends office.

The solar array is 9k to 13k
MY friends office can do 2 r4's  or 2k

I sold  the 2 r4's

 SO his office will have  3 pc's using 1600 watts.
 each with 2 1080 ti's

Just wanted to share with you guys, since I put in the last GPU in today.  Have been mining since 2013 but mostly ASIC's, some GPU's.  Sold off most of the stuff in 2015, then early 2016 decided to get back in (my garage was cold).  Started with 2x380s and 2x390s (sold the 5870s lol).  Eventually sold the 380s+390s+280x in the height of the summer folly. With profits and bitcoin price rise, bought everything else gradually.  So all you see is paid off (plus some more), + all work and accessories (240v+pdu's), electrician work, fans, etc.  Power costs are about 5-6c usd.  Most are 470s/570s, some 480/580s, 1070s, maybe 10 1080tis and 2 1080s, total : 59 GPUs in the house (56 in the garage).

In approx 14 months.  I'm pretty happy, since I never had any real money to invest.  Electric is 100A only...so yeah im maxed out pretty much, total is about 45amps.

i noticed your psu's are laying flat on wood..maybe it is better to raise them a little bit, heat will accumulate there and may deteriorate the psu life.

i noticed your psu's are laying flat on wood..maybe it is better to raise them a little bit, heat will accumulate there and may deteriorate the psu life.

there is a riser and if I fuck with this build I could do 2 on the mobo and 3 risers the board can do 5 cards.
I just set that r4 back to manual settings so it can do any freq you want.
I sold it today.



I'm sad I missed out on the sale of the R4.  Always wanted to check one of them out.
When you pull the car back into the garage, does the heat from the car effect your mining at all?  It's gotta raise the temperatures up a bit no?

Smells really fishy to me. 300W and no aux power connectors on the board? Can't even render the PCB correctly. It's mirrored and then photoshopped some labels on it, which look non-mirrored.

"Invested" billions of whatever currency in it and call it a "GMO"? Come on!

Edit: Those black power converters don't belong on a 300W ASIC board. They are nice and expensive and very efficient, but are not intended for high current/low voltage applications. Proper VRMs are needed for anything >50W.

This is what they look like. Note that the Linear Technology logo is easily recognizable on the "GMO" product. I call it utter BS.

Hm... so, now you have your pile of water-cooled gear sitting right next to the tankless on-demand water heater on the wall. Any ideas on how to maybe merge the two technologies? Preheat the water by GPUs before it enters the main heater? Just thinking out loud... Smiley

 That would be fairly easy to do with a tank-type water heating setup, using a heat exchanger at the intake of the hot water tank.




I AM preheating the pipes  the garage is 90f  so when I turn  the hot water on  it is feed  90f water.  My tankless is not cold  from the tap.

I may do it correctly  down the road.

I have alot of those Rosville quarks they are pretty good, to each his own , at least the antminer psus are tried and tested, heck they are used on antminer s9 which pull as much as 1300 watt some times but delivery lead times are long.  Its the cheap no name ebay /amazon psu's Id never trust my gear with /shrug

but Im fudding though  Grin
