Does anyone have experience with a continuous generator fueled with natural gas (or propane) for supplying their electricity needs for a small mining farm?  The type of unit We are researching would be similar to this one, perhaps smaller: https://www.centralmainediesel.com/order/General-Motors-21-kW-Generator.asp?page=GM21

We have space for it and as long as the natural gas well that already provides heat for the house can handle the extra load it would pay for itself in a matter of months.

it didnt work.

Anyways, which 1080ti would you guys recommend?

I am leaning towards the ASUS turbo. Are they any good? Any problems with them?

If that is the blower model and the cooling on the Asus 1080ti Turbo is as bad as on the 1070 version, I would avoid it.
SERIOUS cooling limitations to that system largely but not entirely due to the severe airflow blockage of the mounting bracket - they might be WORSE than the Founder's Edition cards for cooling.

Aorus 1080ti and the Gigabyte Windforce 3 fan models work well.
Down side of the Aorus is the 3 card width - but for a riser-based mining rig that shouldn't be an issue.

I don't like the aorus 1080 ti  I sold the one I had.

I do like the asus turbo cools fine...

but I have open air rigs not closed case rigs

so I could see why we the the opposite.

Looking for some help/input

6x 1080 TI rig -- what would be a good pre-made case to buy that could house these?

otherwise zip-tie style design on my steel wire racks?

What are you suggestions guys?

should show now

I have used the:

h270-hd3    hard to set up   be sure you have a new win 10 pro build
z270p-d3     good board I have 2

I had no issues with setting up the H270-hd3, but in 20/20 hindsight for what I was building the system for I should have gone with the "sli" varient.
On the other hand, I never inflict Windows 10 on a mining rig - LINUX by preference, Win7 otherwise (and yes, Win7 WILL install on a Kaby Lake CPU if you don't insist on using USB keyboards AND mice and works fine once you get the MB drivers installed).
Board should work fine for a 3-card no-riser rig - my issues with it weren't mining related or with it not working.

I think your board will work  but the z270p-d3 is very easy to use.

the asus turbo 1080 ti is a good card.

Hi guys.

I'd like to start building a 3x1080ti riser-less build.

The following boards have 3 pcie x 16 slots:
Gigabyte GA-Gaming-B8 (local:$128)
Gigabyte GA-H270-HD3(local:$136)
Gigabyte Z270P-D3(local:$146.80)

Has anyone tried a build with Gigabyte GA-Gaming-B8?

how come the image of the board is not displaying???

The z270p-d3 is very easy to use.

I use a few of this and also the Asus Prime 270 for the NVIDIA mini farm.

Love seeing your posts and all the updates in here.  Living the dream!
Hoping to start finding a place for a good solar farm.

Phil you probably have been asked this before, but have you messed with mixing 480-Vega AMD cards in a single motherboard or system?
I am assuming you can't have the drivers for both on one machine and get proper rates?
I don't bother with custom straps for now, so right now it's all stock, but got a mix of 480, 580, and a Vega 64.
Plus a $999 Vega FE, whicih I think still needs it's own drivers as well, or do the normal Vega drivers work for it?

I have a Vega64 and an RX470 in the same rig.  Other than WattTool not working for the Vega, it works just fine.  WattMan is the only tool that I've found that works for the Vega.

I'm mining Burst with just under 0.3 PB...

At today's price, seems to generate USD450 in gross profits. Are you mining Burst for ROI? Or for other reasons?
I had the equipment and most of the drives already.  It was a backup system, so I figured I might as well put it to use.  I forge a block every 16 hours on average, so about 46 per month which works out to about 73,000 Burst at the current rate of 1,577 per block.  So about $876 @ $0.012.  If Burst ever got up around $1, life would be good!

I started mining at the beginning of July, and it has taken its toll on my power bill.  Before, I was actually generating more power from my solar that I consumed, so I was building a "bank" of kWh with the POCO (doing net metering with them).

After I started mining, not so much...

The 6 x 1080Ti rig:

I have since upgraded the PSU to the EVGA 1600W P2 and am now running the cards at 71% power (had to stay at 62% with the 1200W PSU to keep at the 80% consumption level).

I'm well under 80% of 1600W right now running at 71%:

I have another rig with a water cooled Zotac 1080Ti and an EVGA 1070.  3rd rig has a single 1070FE in it.  I plan to build a 2nd rig with 8 1070's in it and a 3rd with 6 more 1080Tis and then pause there for a bit and wait for the GTX 2xxx series to come out.

I had basically created negative pressure throughout the entire house, so hot and humid air was being pulled in through all cracks in doors, windows and walls.

Yep, and dust too. When I used to build gaming PCs a long time ago, I learned the hard way that positive pressure through filtered intake is the best way to keep dust out.

I just got one of my China contacts last night to buy it for me.

Taobao is a Alibaba for domestic market kind of a thing, so plenty of Chinese text there unlike Aliexpress which is designed for International market.

Hope to get it in the next week or so via air - will revert soon.

Bought 3 Qty - 2 for me and 1 donating to Phil :-)
These look epic. Very interesting. Be sure to let us know how you get on with them!

Citronick, any update on those Onda D1800 boards?

Seems there's a case for it too.

Hi guys,

I have a small "mining room" in my basement.  I have 2 racks worth of equipment integrated in a wall between a basement hallway, and a hexagon shaped room in the rear corner.  Here's a view from the hallway side.  As you can see, there is also quite a bit of A/V and Network gear in the rack currently.

I'm mining Burst with just under 0.3 PB, and that Rosewill case has 6 x 1080Ti cards in it.

I started out using an 8" 750 CFM exhaust fan as seen below:

But after a couple of weeks, I started to notice that the rest of the house was getting hot (outdoor temps were in the 90's at the time).  I didn't make the connection that the exhaust fan in the basement was the culprit, so I had the HVAC guy come out.  After checking that all was well with my A/C Unit, I showed him the exhaust fan and he immediately knew what the issue was.  I had basically created negative pressure throughout the entire house, so hot and humid air was being pulled in through all cracks in doors, windows and walls.

So I ended up ordering a 2 ton high efficiency mini split and now my "mining room" is a chilly 62 degrees all the time and no more issues in the rest of the house.

So please be careful about adding an exhaust fan in your mining room.

I ran a dedicated 100A subpanel to my mining room and am feeding all servers 240V:

Phil, I too have solar.  20kw system at the moment, but I plan to add additional ground mount arrays @ 6.24 Kw (24 260W panels at a time).

My current system:

54 panels on the shop roof and one ground mount array for now.  I got plenty of space to add more arrays on the ground with a clear southern exposure.

I have 400A service at the house with a 400A safety disconnect and a 400A automatic transfer switch with a diesel generator for backup.

So I'm ready to start adding more mining rigs now.  Who knows, once I fill up that small hexagon shaped room in the basement, maybe it is time to load up a couple of shop bays with mining equipment as well.   Grin
