If there is potential for financial gains, people will be forced to bet on it despite of their non-interest to the game. Gambling is more than profits than entertainment alone, so gamblers will still rush to bet even if their personal interest for the game is not seen. Also, peer pressure could be another reason. Since gambling is more on a social event, then it's not surprising that you will gain social influence, even if it means not having genuine interest on the game itself.

Very true. Gambling for most people is way beyond just entertainment especially as financial gains are attached to it. I can bet over 80 percent of people gambling today are not doing it just for the sake of the entertainment alone but the benefit they get monetarily. If it was just the entertainment without the money attached, not many of gamblers or bettors will be seen betting today. Peer pressure is really a factor that have affected an average human being today, it has also made some friends to invite others into gambling mischievously. I've seen a situation where a big man son was initiated by friends into gambling for the sake of the finance he has within his purview.

personally i can't imagine having to sit and watch and analyze countless of matches of a sport i do not enjoy watching just to bet on them

what about you?

I don't think anyone would follow match and team analysis in a sport they don't like, just for the sake of betting. It seemed obvious to me because the selection process requires a strong mental presence and mental freedom to find options and analyze the results of the analyses and comparisons, but I was surprised once by some gambling friends who bet on ice hockey or cricket matches even though they don't even know how these sports are played. I couldn't find an explanation for this other than that they are addicted to gambling and since they lost betting on sports they know and chose a desperate experience on sports they don't know.

i am a sports fan before i am a gambler i watch sports and i bet on my predictions to amplify the entertainment and enjoyment i get from that sports i could not bet while watching a sport but it is always much more fun to look forward to the results knowing especially that you might win in the end so if your favorite team wins you are happy as a fan but you can be happier if you also win some money from betting on them

this leads me to thinking whether do people bet on sports they do not enjoy or are not a fan of? maybe there are people out there who are just really in for the money and they would bet on sports that are popular and they have a bigger chance on winning at even if they do not particularly enjoy them

personally i can't imagine having to sit and watch and analyze countless of matches of a sport i do not enjoy watching just to bet on them

what about you?

Everyone's mentality is different, so I would say that I bet the most on two sports, football and cricket. Because I like watching sports and I bet on sports based on my research, it gives me a lot of pleasure to watch. But I believe that I bet on the sports that I am most confident and trustful in, because it is never possible to win by betting blindly.
And even after repeated research and gaining experience, some bets have to be lost, so experience and research help in winning most bets.

In fact, betting on sports, especially football and cricket, without research and experience is like shooting in the dark. Betting on sports is not just about luck, "gambling win" it is a combination of research, knowledge, experience and luck. no one cannot blindly bet on luck and win. Because the reality is, there is a place for both winning and losing. But with experience and research, the chances of winning increase, and if luck is on your side, you will definitely win. However, gambling should only be a means of entertainment and should never be taken to extremes, and you should gamble with that money which you can afford to lose.

cricket is really specific, I have no idea where to start betting on it, would definitely have to study it a little bit, watch the games more often and all
even UFC sometimes is not so obvious for betting

do you think it's possible to stay consistently profitable with sports betting?

Sure people bet on sports that they don't enjoy if there is money to be made. Here is an example, somebody doesn't like horse racing but bets on a horse that is thought to be a sure winner and goes out to the race track to enjoy the show. Even if you're not fully entertained or entralled by a certain team the reality is that you can still have a good time. If you're just in it for the money though the real enjoyment only comes if you win sadly, but if you like the team and also bet on it even if you lose you still .... actually it might even be worse that way because then not only do you lose but your team loses so its a double whammy! Bet responsibly...

This is why for me sports betting is also a passion. You do not bet on sports that you don't truly like but if you're a mad man and you like to do unusual things like betting for games that you don't know of, you're a rich man because you can easily throw money on everything by doing that. But if you're curious, it's fine. You own the money and you don't mind what people will tell you about how you bet for sports that you are unfamiliar with. While for me, I only bet for the games that I know and many times that I lose, I don't give up but still continue to do it and if I am bored, I'd do it for fun. Betting for sports that I'm not a fan of.

Sports betting should be limited to games that you have a good understanding of, have played it sometime in the past or are still associated with it and you do find it interesting.

If there is a sport that you do not enjoy, you should refrain from betting on it. Your analysis there will not as good as the games you enjoy. Your insight will be lacking in such games. Even then you might win some bets, but those will be due to chance.

Now an addicted gambler might not always have the fav sport markets open, so they will ease their addiction on games they never heard of. Grin

I never bet on baseball. This is because in my country, baseball is not a popular sport (as far as I understand, it is very popular in the USA and English-speaking countries).

As for me, I prefer to bet on my favorite sports. At the same time, a person loves what he has studied well (what he has focused on). For example, I really like watching boxing matches on TV and YouTube, as well as football and hockey matches.

Accordingly, I usually bet on football, hockey and boxing. I am interested in these sports, I can assess the potential of the teams (athletes), I know many of the players by name and have a rough idea of what to expect from their game.

There are a lot of sports, so in my opinion, there is no point in betting on sports you do not understand. It is almost a guaranteed loss.

I only make my small bets on sports that I like or follow, I don't see any point in betting on something that I don't like, playing just for the sake of playing there are much better options, because betting on something that you don't follow becomes just a "spin of the roulette"... so it's better to go to the casino actually, right?
Betting on a sport you follow is the best thing to do because you know what you are staking your money on and not just some random games because you want to bet and increase your money.

The only time I usually place a bet on games I don't watch is still in the same sport but different matches that involve different teams, which I don't find interesting in watching but just want to add those games to increase my potential winnings on a parlay bet.

I enjoy football betting more but I do try different sport games that I enjoy so I'm flexible to try other games like basketball because I usually like it but betting on a game I don't enjoy I don't think I will be able to watch it neither will I have the interest in studying the teams or the trends to be able to bet on a team.

So no I'm not one of those that bet on game I don't enjoy it will be like torture to me I mean there are other games I could literally enjoy and bet on even if it's my first time betting on it. But forcing myself on a game like  cricket I don't enjoy watching is a no for me. Wrestling, basketball I could try betting on them aside from football because I enjoy them too, so no betting on a game I don't enjoy.

I only analyze sports I know very well about, but I bet on sports I'm unfamiliar with or resent only if the booking codes were given to me by someone I believe is good in predictions. Popular sports does not mean you can win more there. Most times its these sports that have no much publicity that gives big money like table tennis, hockey e.t.c. I have won from them before when a friend of mine who understands it gave me some games to play.

There is equal chance to win in all sports as long as you understand it and sometimes I am tempted to think that football has lower odds compared to these unpopular sports.

There are sports that I don't dislike, I'm just not interested in. These are all kinds of skiing and swimming. I have nothing against these sports, but I'm not interested in it. However, I could easily bet on such contests, and at random. For example, I rarely place small bets on the cricket, and sometimes I even win, albeit small amounts.
won’t you experience nothing but losses though if you bet on random? you wouldn’t know much about the sport and you are going in blindly it would seem pointless to me to bet on it since i don’t even have anything to look forward to anyway since i do not watch the matches of the sport when i mean i dislike i just also mean disinterested which i should have made clearer from the start

Is it possible for people to bet if they don't have knowledge about the sport? I think if people don't like it and don't have knowledge about a sport they won't do it because they consciously know that it will only make them poor because they will lose the amount of money they bet.
If you don't like it, why bet or force yourself to bet. Come on guys.

There are very few people who bet on gambling for fun and less so most people gamble with the intention of making money. But here those who once become addicted will keep betting and no reaction to losing or winning can stop them...

That It is actually debatable, though, the actual percentage of gamblers who partake in risking their money for the sake of entertainment and others who actually to seek to get profit out the casino is not actually known, I personally believe anyone who partakes in gambling keeps a minimum of expectation within themselves about the possibility of making profit off their gambling sessions. If I had to guess, I would say it is about 15% the actual fraction of people who have managed to reduce their expectations for profits to the lowest possible and mostly gamble their money for fun or amusement at this point.

Those who are addicted to gambling are a completely different kind of gamblers, they neither gamble for fun or money, because they cannot stop themselves even while in profit.

what about you?

When I watch eSports international matches, or the World Cup in football or hockey, I always find it interesting to watch without betting money on these sports. I don’t want to think about money, I want to see a beautiful game. And to strengthen the feeling of my involvement, I learn the biographies of the players, the history of the teams. And this makes watching matches much more interesting because I see that the future destinies of these people depend on their skills. And that’s why watching is very interesting.
Sometimes I bet money, but this happens so rarely that you can count on your fingers how many times a year I bet.

Gamblers are funny and can do crazy things with their money. People bet on cock fight and some events which they know nothing about. Therefore, gamblers can bet on sports that they have zero knowledge on. I am a football fan, and I bet on football matches but that doesn't mean that I cannot bet on horse racing, because my friend loves horse race. He can analyze the game and I bet with his result. Luck is the key factor.

If personally you really don't enjoy those sports you are seeing on sportsbook then better not to bet on it. Since you are just wasting your time analyzing the past result and other things you think needed to help you win since the probabilities to win is low and for sure that you cannot enjoy or feel excited to see the result of your bets placed there.

Much better to place your bets only on sports you are watching since for sure that you will not have this feeling which you regret your decision why you spend your money on some team even if they lose since provably that you still enjoy watching them playing those sports you like.

Usually don't place a bet on things that I don't know since I really think its just waste of money for trying it.

I love watching sports, especially my favorite game is cricket. I like to watch cricket matches more.
I am guessing that cricket is a thing in your country this is why you have high interest in it because in my country for example where cricket is not a national game there are a lot of us struggling to understand how the game really works. And although I've seen it many times I think I still need some kind of explanation about how points are scored. One of the most recent sports that I did not enjoy is this slapping competition that they have turned into a league naming it the power slap league.
