now hosts have their chance to join them, although Congo has similar chances, if you ask me
in the pool, all top participants had 1:0 score on both games, so nothing to change there

Just checked the pool, and only Jeremypwr got anything out of the game; it's good to see that everyone expected Nigeria to win; this was without a doubt the best game in this tournament so far; South Africa had us on our heels in the first half, we were outplayed, but our defence came to our rescue once more, and we were able to bring the game back into balance in the second half. We dropped from 2:0 to 1-1 in less than 30 seconds; never seen anything like it. VAR was right again; that was a good call.

I have the same scoreline ( Ivory coast - Congo) with top 2 opponents I guess the Final game and the 3rd place match will determine the champion.

We're  not going to survive this PK shootouts - The Williams guys is not letting anything in. What a Game!!!
Lol the Williams guy seems to have left his shooting boots and gloves at the hotel and couldn't perform as expected lol

But on a serious note this game shouldn't have gone into that extra 30 minutes in the first place , because they were not under any pressure, such that the foul that lead to the penalty shouldn't have happened.. otherwise great to see Nigeria through because it would have been a sad day, let's go super Eagles!!!

I had to cover my eyes and mute my ears as I was scared of what the Williams guy did in the previous game, and I didn't trust our players on PK shootouts. You are right; the Williams guy was a Dick after all.

How did Congo miss that one...flag stayed down with no offside call and our friends in blue couldn't make it count..these guys will remember these wasted chances!!

congrats to Nigeria, they somehow reached finals, although it could go other way easily
South Africa proved to be tough nut to crack, and Nigeria could play better as well

Got to say, after the treat of watching both AFC cup finals, Nigeria-RSA was painful, hope I don't sound judgmental but there was enough quality and talent to not play the way they did (Nigeria). Too many attempts to run past defence on the flank, too many poor long passes, not enough guile. I like direct football but this was more like "okay, I'm lobbing, let's see who's stronger and faster" or "okay I'm going to breeze past this wingback, cut in and score".

RSA could even have won it with final minute injury time to get the upset but blasted over, now watching first-half extra time I'm hoping it just goes to penalties and the Bafana2 slip through. Can't really bear to watch more of this, every time camera pans to bench, coach, or fans, everyone's just yawning too.

Still, I won't mind CLS63 taking his 10/1 -- better than this shit bet:

Now that today will be game day for the host nation who have an opportunity to write history day, from almost being eliminated to fighting their way all the way to the semi finals and possibly getting to play in the finals am not sure if I should back them..but remembering the EURO 2016 of Portugals journey qualifying as third ranked team and going all the way to win it, am thinking this could be that journey these lads are taking...and the bookies are all favouring this team to win but to play it safe invest to wait for team news, otherwise am not convinced these guys can beat Congo DR with the last card damage(yellows and red) they got... otherwise tough match to call!!

For the Nigerian match , we all know who is taking this one and don't want to spoil the fun..
Good luck ladies and gentlemen!

My favourite for the championship is Nigeria this year.

AFCON 2024 started officially last night. I think that Nigeria can become champions surprisingly in Osimhen's lead this year.

I have terrible predictions in the AFCON pool this year and it is impossible for me to win a prize unfortunately. However Nigeria are progressing just as I expected. Are the people who were against me about my saying Nigeria would win at the beginning of the tournament still thinking the same? Or are they thinking that the favourite of the tournament is Nigeria?
Walking the talk, nice catch just hope they do it with 2games to go!!!
Let's go Nigeria...

Btw depending on how much you wagered for Nigeria to win, you could consider other options as an assurance bet.. Ivory Coast to win or Congo DR to win Roll Eyes

Here in Afcon we have some blows, but not so big like the ones in Asia, but are we gonna see a unprecent final like South Africa-Congo?

As I said above before, this is the one I would really like to see! I have no feelings towards any of the remaining teams, so of course as a neutral, I want the most exciting. I feel like though if the final really becomes Congo-South Africa, it might be the most boring one, as both teams will want to win it too badly, or am I wrong?

Nigeria would be reserving everything for final so maybe they play boring semi, but in the final for sure they want to win it before Extra Time.

I gave same predictions to both semis. I hope no penalties as I hate picking draws!!

If Nigeria put Osimhen on bench, we know they will play for draw, win with him in ET.

I don't know how if serious the knock is but id Osimhem doesn't play then it's all the manager's fault, he got a knock, came for treatment and he still push him back to the game, we were already winning and Osimhem should have been changed early to avoid all this from happening

Well we can expect more surprises in this cup like the ones who are achieved in his homolog Asian cup?

Today Jordan wins against South Korea, i dont know how that happen, incredible. And before that we see some very stranges games, where the ArgenSyria fueled by various argentinian players put in risk the huge Iran team losing up in penalti kicks.

It would be the best for everyone involved to see South Africa vs DR Congo in the final. It's the matchup I'm hoping to see Smiley
I am sure there are a couple of members here who would have something to say about that. Nigeria is the most populous nation on the continent and Côte d'Ivoire are the hosts, the wind would be in their sales.

The pool is mostly an exercise now for the rest of us. Got to have some more luck in future pools.

- Jay -

They will have the loudest atmosphere + biggest fan support for sure, but sometimes that doesn't go in a positive way for the teams involved, depends on how they deal with pressure. Some teams even do better when people are against them, but I don't know much about mentalities of South Africa or DR Congo.

If Nigeria put Osimhen on bench, we know they will play for draw, win with him in ET.

You guys think we will see penalties after 0-0 on both sides? I think the underdogs will try to force this to happen, right?

But you never ever know host magic. No money for me on these matches. I just need to make sure I get points in all games to keep my spot Smiley

and South Africa to pass group, also as underdog, for the time being

South Africa pass into QF, and could pass into SF as well
will follow them all the way, until drop out

and quoting myself again, South Africa passing rounds playing till very end
four saves in penalty shootout is not something that is easy to do, and their keeper is probably on top of his self-confidence

Nigeria will be a tough rival, two defensive teams trying to find the net
between Congo and Ivory Coast, hosts are having host advantage, but I would not write-off Congo, match can go any side
intense on top of the pool for first four spots

Well seems like the luck of ivory coast is never ending, Mali missing a penalty and also missing the chance of win with one more player sin first half.

We already said this but, seems like is gonna be hard to stop Ivory coast from being the champion.
Am on the same boat of this and I think the  script is favouring ivory Coast getting to win it , but I think the last game did some serious damage with some key players being yellow carded and missing the important clash which should see them in the finals..but am sorry I think it's end of the road for the hosts when the Semis come.

Otherwise if Nigeria survives from this group of the last four they are winning it for sure!!

Four matches to go, and we still have a chance to see a new winner (South Africa). These guys are my betting favourites in qualification, but all my other favs are now out, so I will probably continue betting on them with good odds -- Nigeria are the freshest team in the whole tourney, never played a single minute of ET, so I feel like they have the biggest advantage.

Not sure I like DR Congo, only 1 win, but they will fancy taking any team to penalties. In the last 2 AFCON wins, they also did so by knocking out the hosts, so they will like that bit of history going for them. Ivory Coast aren't going to let that happen easily though and also have their own history. Their ET win was their first since 1992 -- which they also won their last AFCON.

Loving this edition, I'm shit elsewhere. See you losers on Wednesday. My picks: Nigeria wins, DR Congo runners up, S Africa 3rd place.

Back to AFCON, I'm sure every knows already how much of an anomaly this tournament has been, being from Africa doesn't offer the slightest of advantage as far as the SuperBRU pool is concerned.
I believe it does. Of course it isn't much but you two being from Africa probably means you at least watched some games. Furthermore it means you have more interest with the tournament and much more media coverage. I haven't read a single article about AFCON while it lasts while I daily read at least 10 regarding Premier League and at least 5 regarding my own Croatian league.

<>

Even if it is just in "I feel like I know what I am doing bias".

I agree with Trofo. I know La Liga the most, followed by everything in Europe to the same degree in the big 4/5. But judging from own performance, it's hard to say if this advantage really means anything BUT I think over long term I perform consistently bad in La Liga, mainly because of bias for Barca and against Real.

F1 pool I almost won, and it's worse than AFCON, I knew nothing about the sport, I only started reading because of the pool and until today I didn't know the full rules and never watched a single race. I followed purely odds plus past performance, and somehow did better consistently in the whole season, my first season!

I probably would be the same if there was pool for Asia Cup. I would blindly predict upset for the teams I support, Japan, S Korea etc I would never have counted Tajikistan to reach knockouts.

It's a problem but a nice one, if you think about it Smiley

Congrats to Igebotz and Saint-loup for winning the Quarter-Finals Yellow Cap

Back 2 Back Yellow - too easy for the Sherrif. Sorry if I missed it somewhere but I'm yet to receive the last one, maybe I'm missing something.

Nigeria - Ivory coast AFCON final incoming!

Stupid Malians deprived me of the yellow cap as well as probably just a 2-3 points difference from 1st position, now I'm more pained getting the Cape Verde fixture correctly..

You probably didn't receive the previous one yet because you won it during the week, free bets are always dished out by Sportsbet on Mondays or Tuesdays usually.
