But the clean sheet against Dortmund, I don't know if you saw the game, was a shameful event. It wasn't because Bayern was so strong, it was because Dortmund was so bad that I had to turn off the game. I was quite excited because I really hoped that Dortmund playing at home could mean something, no loss in a long time and some self-confidence could have contributed a great deal to a good result. But I think Dortmund's results until then did not properly reflect their performances. The games against Newcastle were the same. Results good, performances ok at best. Bayern put their lucky streak to an end.

Yeah. I was pretty heartbroken not so much for the scoreline but the way they gave Bayern an easy time, but the quicker I move on, the better.

Friday has a game, I'm sure cygan will send out reminders but I've gone in and set my picks. I slip farther and farther down, but I retain faith in a return to the mean.

In addition, Bayern is frequently having these unexpected issues in their defense. Now it doesn't matter when they play against Heidenheim or any other mediocre team, but they were punished for that against Leverkusen and it will be very different when they play against a top team like Real Madrid. They won't just get away with very sloppy performances in the Champions League against any of the title favorites. But the worst is that they all too often get away with it in the Bundesliga, which makes the league quite boring.
As long as Kane will score at least 1 or 2 goals every game, it's safe for Bayern but I agree to you that clean sheets are rather rare this season for FC Bayern, especially in Champions league. Group stage of Champions League is rather easy but after group stage, Bayern needs to be careful.
Surprisingly, Bayern had a clean sheet in their 0-4 victory against Dortmund.
Looks like Bayern inconsistency is back on the menue...

And with Guirassy being back for Stuttgart, I'm hoping for Stuttgart to remain competitive but that's probably only wishful thinking.  Cry

Moving 9 positions up it's nice, innit? Especially in a pool of just 29 participants. Two more such leaps and I'm in the top! Smiley

yeah, it is really a close pool, looking at some other pools
small differences and good round can push you up a lot

Bayern is opening a round on friday, but most should be expected from Frankfurt and Stuttgart on Saturday
Leverkusen will have tough fixture in Bremen, real test for their title ambitions

Isn't it too early to assume that 1/8 will be easy? After all, any team from Group F plus Atletico or Napoli could become Bayern's opponent there. All of these teams (including PSG) will be underdogs against Bayern, but I wouldn't say that no one will have a chance.
In the game with Heidenheim, there was indeed an unexpected comeback, but in the end it was only an opportunity for live bettors to make a profitable bet.

I didn't say "easy" and I also didn't mean to say it. I rather wanted to imply that I am positive about their chances foe the 1/8 although it could already be quite a hard game, but when they face Real Madrid or Manchester City, or also Inter Milan, that would be the games I am really looking forward to because I have my doubts as they are a weird team at times. They can at one moment destroy the opponent, and in the next moment destroy themselves. I think this works against teams that are not top-notch because they can compensate for it by scoring many goals (as we have seen against Galatasaray), but against the heavy weights this could be the end for them quickly.

Now I understand you. I agree that Bayern's level is not yet clear in games with strong opponents. In the Bundesliga they had problems with both Bayer Leverkusen (2-2) and Leipzig (loss in the Super Cup 0-3) so it is reasonable to assume that even if Kane continues to score, playing against Real Madrid or City his efforts may not be enough as the opponent will score even more goals than Bayern. I’m also waiting for top pairs, but as always, it’s unlikely that anything will start before 1/4. For now there is entertainment in F's group.

Yes, Stuttgart's victory was a surprise for me (but not fatal because I know what Dortmund is like). I was also surprised at how low Union fell - 0:4, this seems to be an abnormal result, even taking into account the fact that now these clubs are at different poles of the standings.
Bayern have liked to concede goals in recent seasons, this is a normal result, although I was betting on a clear victory.

Bayern concedes goals more than they should, but there is a difference if they lead the game 4-0 and then concede the 4-1 and 4-2 or if they are about to lose points after a 2-0 lead in their home stadium against a team that was promoted the 2. Bundesliga just a few months ago. That should not happen and they should have more control during those games when they are already in the pole position like that. Against other teams this is more likely to be punished.

Can't wait to see Bayern play in the next round of the Champions League. The round of 16 should not be too hard for them, but after that I am really curious to see how they will be doing now that they also have Harry Kane being in great shape.

Another round with a few “strange” results, but I’m happy that at least for me there wasn’t a crash like in the last round  Grin
I'm happy for Bayer's record and amazed by Union, which finally dropped to last place. The distance to 14th place is only 3 points, but it is already difficult to believe that Union will get out of this situation. Fans of this club probably experience interesting feelings - playing in the Champions League and last place in the Bundesliga.

This time it paid off for me that we adjusted the scores for draws or otherwise I would less often go with a draw in those games. I think the strange results you mentioned are Gladbach-Wolfsburg and Stuttgart - Dortmund maybe? The other results are not really that surprising to me and to be honest, I went with Dortmund because I was sure that majority would pick Dortmund, but I thought that Stuttgart has a chance to win it.

But apart from the result I think the strangest game was Bayern - Heidenheim. The results are ok for Bayern, but really when Heidenheim ties the game in Munich in the 70' minute, something is still not going well. That should never happen.

indeed, having been in CL league, and still have some chances to pass into Europa league
while in Bundesliga they have lines of loses (in CL as well), having 12 loses in last 13 matches in all competitions

nice to see Leverkusen in this form, dough, they are playing really nice to watch football and hopefully that can last till winter break, and continue afterwards
on the other hand, Bayern lined 42 goals in 11 fixtures, as they are playing with amateurs

Bayer scores on average 3 goals, and Bayern 4. But in the head-to-head match it was 2-2, so it’s hard to say that Bayer is definitely better, although we all mean it and wait.

As for me, it was just another week to continue my slippery fall down the leaderboard  Sad

I really have lost my mojo for this pool too, I really need to find my form back, but I know what I need to do right to get back in contention, I've just been rather more of an unstable person and having one or two real life activities that's enormously time demanding have really shortened my time frame from prosper research and conclusive decision making to say the least  Roll Eyes I hope the international gives me a much needed time to find some clarity  Embarrassed

I understand perfectly well how you feel - I’ve had these feelings since the beginning of the season, and therefore if I know that my results are bad, I don’t even look at the standings. Sometimes you just have to focus on getting the yellow caps - even if you lose the tournament in every single round you can succeed.

interesting discussion, would like to see Leverkusen in for a good race, although hardly believe that they can push into second half with same tempo
good thing they will have winter break to further consolidate, and that could be helpful

with all said, maybe my comments are out of place, cause I missed this night game, expected close match that can go any side, but M'Gladbach crushed Wolfs with 4:0

Maybe it's because I'm a Liverpool supporter but I think Alonso has a huge part in this unity -- he displayed some of it as a player in La Liga, even before that with the Reds. Personally, I think it's a great sign of the times. Just don't be too hopeful, and I hope they assume rational because, as you say, they don't have a deep squad so results will get tougher to obtain past January (injuries, tiredness).

That's what I mean, the whole "construct" called Bayer Leverkusen is calm, concentrated, consistent and down to earth. In contrast to teams that can take the lead for a week or two or have a strong streak like Freiburg last year, Leverkusen seems to be in a more consolidated state. They also have their game against Dortmund at home, which gives them the big chance to play a perfect first half of the season.

But I still think, as you also indicated, that Bayern ultimately decides who wins the title. If they don't show any weaknesses this season, it is not like I am convinced that Leverkusen can go for 90 points whereas it is not impossible for Bayern.

Seems I wasn't the only one who submitted much earlier (yesterday morning a strane feeling came over me and I cleaned Superbru out). I finally went against Freiburg this week, with much pain and hesitation.

Yes but I think what seems to be different this time is their steadiness and unity. The team is impressively well balanced and I think the only threat for them to experience a sustained downturn would be injuries. If they stay together like that and they are lucky enough to retain the core players in a healthy state, I believe that Leverkusen can stand up to Bayern for a long time. The problem is the difference in quality sitting on the bench. Bayern can compensate for injuries and suspensions on the highest level while Leverkusen cannot. At least not on the same level as Bayern.

Leverkusen also doesn't have a lot of luck, the wins are based on their performances and not on some lucky bastard 30 meter shots hitting the angle. That's when they can have a few good results and then luck fades and points along with it, but this doesn't apply to Leverkusen. It is exciting and hopefully we will have some title action until the end of the season.
