Liverpool, losing the first leg convincingly, against a Spanish club, and needing to overcome impossible odds? I've heard this before, right? Alright, I don't expect it to happen again, but we've quite regularly gone behind quite convincingly, and then managed to crawl right back into it. Dortmund with the Lovern header, Barcelona with the quick corner, and obviously Istanbul if you want to go that far back. So, I definitely don't doubt we're capable of it. I just think Real Madrid will know this, and they know how to manage Champions League games to make sure they progress.

Real Madrid would know that Liverpool are capable of staging a comeback but would that reduce the chances of it happening, I don't think so because Barcelona after losing to Roma from a comeback still did the same against Liverpool, while being quite aware, I think being very aware of the posibility of a comeback more now that the away goal rule doesn't stand makes it even easier, because all that Liverpool needs is a goal within the first 20 minutes, and I'd expect that to disrupt the balance of Real Madrid team and shift the whole momentum in favor of Liverpool which is a recipe for disaster (comeback) Imo, but I could be entirely wrong too, as we've seen gone point blank after winning 9-0 about a week before.

We are in good shape right now, and I'm hopeful we can keep it up this weekend when we play weak Leicester. Going for a 2:0 win.
I think you will keep it going personally. The thing about teams struggling, as long as there's passion there, you'll always recover from a period of bad form, and looking at those Chelsea players after the game, there's was definitely passion there. So, while there's been rumours of the manager losing the dressing room, and various other things; that didn't look like the players didn't want to play for the manager, quite the opposite.

Oh for sure Liverpool has a chance to win.  But to get back on aggregate from a 3 - nil deficit vs Real, dunno.  They could but I think going to pens is more likely.  And a lot more fun!  But then it could be too big to ask for.  We'll see...  It's just Real Madrid as a team ain't no mental midget.  They're mentally solid and they're hard to break.

And not sure why the books have it at almost even between them.  Prolly the 7 - 0 trashing vs United swayed the line.  Lol.

brings back memories to last year Chelsea match against Real
it was a bit lower margin, 1:3 for Real in first match, but Chelsea was up 0:3 during the Madrid match, so it is not impossible at all

and Real finished it to pass through, but overall I do not see as impossible to see Real at 0:3 during the match with Liverpool, although not highly likely at this moment
nevertheless, BTTS is the only betting option worth exploring IMO

Liverpool will have a chance, Real is not some defensive giant that will kill the game. Hell, Liverpool had 2:0 in first game before Real broke them.

I expect Real to play bad game but I also expect them to pull together at some point and destroy Liverpool dreams. We all know what is Real in CL, no matter how bad it gets, 10 good minutes at the end is enough to turn it around and this time it may not even be necessary. Liverpool to win will be enough for me when betting.

Bayern - PSG tonight, I am hoping for goals galore, these 2 were a bit short on spectacle in first leg.

Sadly mate I think we are done in the CL this season. A 5-2 humbling in the first leg makes it almost impossible. I can’t believe how badly we played in the 2nd half. Really frustrating but that’s football. If we get the first goal next week it could make Real nervous. I don’t hold out much hope though.

I am more confident about us finishing 4th in the PL & getting back into the CL for next season. We’ve picked up our form lately, we have players returning from injury at the right time. Spurs & Newcastle are stuttering & look like they peaked too early. I think we will finish 4th and I will be happy with that as we’ve been awful for large parts of this season.

Real Madrid's midfield is their strongest position, and that is Liverpool's biggest weakness this season. Both teams have poor defensive setups, so it's going to be a long night for Liverpool. If Liverpool can score early goals in the first half, they might have a chance to pull off what Chelsea almost achieved in Spain last season.

The other key game has to be Chelsea vs Leicester. I'm not sure what you guys are going for there, it's hard to judge considering how good Chelsea looked midweek. I reckon a 1-1 could be on the cards.

Liverpool will smash Real Madrid don't you guys worry about it. Alright, I admit, I can see us scoring a few goals, but unfortunately I just don't see us conceding which is the difficult part to overcome in my opinion, even against United where we were clearly the better team, we still looked rather fragile at the back in that first half. I distinctively remember our defenders causing absolute chaos, and Alison nearly giving them a tap in.

So, while that result against Man Utd, and the fact we kept a clean sheet is absolutely brilliant; doing that against Real Madrid away from home? That's more than a tall order, I think that's astronomically tall order. Although, Klopp turned me into a believer, and I'm not going to start doubting the boys now.

Anyway, onto the fixtures this weekend:

Liverpool vs Bournemouth. Obviously, I'd going to say we'll wipe the floor with Bournemouth. I think Crystal Palace has the potential to take points off of City, and hopefully that's the case. Arsenal haven't got the easiest game in the world against Fulham, which could potentially make it hard work. Although, I'd fancy the gunners to extend their league further this weekend. The other key game has to be Chelsea vs Leicester. I'm not sure what you guys are going for there, it's hard to judge considering how good Chelsea looked midweek. I reckon a 1-1 could be on the cards.

^  Real Madrid is ahead on aggregate by three goals against Liverpool and the next match is gonna be in Madrid.  It's gonna be a tall order for Klopp to ask for the same performance they did vs Man United as Real Madrid ain't no joke.  I know the away goal rule was abolished a couple of years ago but we can't deny that the home supporters have an effect against the visiting side of sorts esp in a stadium like the Bernabeu.

Don't get me wrong.  I'd like to have all the English teams at the next round.  Was stoked to see Chelsea win 2 - nil against BVB.  I'll be rooting for Liverpool but I'm not expecting much.

That win against Utd has shaken the bookies too. Still we need to manage 4 goals margin to qualify.

haha Just give up now don't let the 7-0 win against United give you false optimism; the damage was done at Anfield, and it was a mistake to allow them to score that many goals at home. There is no way Real Madrid will lose 4-0 to Liverpool at home in the Champions League. Real Madrid are currently having a bad run of games, which offers Liverpool a little advantage to win but not qualify. I bet for Liverpool to win 1-3, but that wont  be enough.
No doubt Liverpool will play the match to qualify but I also doubt if they will be able to do so. They will win which has better possibility than to qualify. But again in football it seems nothing is impossible. Have any of us thought Utd will concede 7 goals and not score a single one? I was even siding for Utd to win by 1 - 2, see how much doubt I had against my own team?

If Liverpool manage to even win on the 23rd then I will be happy but you never know by any chance if they qualify then we are back in the track. We will be one of the team who will have major chance to win the CL again. By the way, 23rd is a long time, many things can change. Let's focus on the match against Bournemouth.

fantastic performance by Chelsea I must admit that, for once, I didn't think my team would progress. I want to dream.

3 - 1 for Benfica, 3 - 0 now and 2 - 1 for Chelsea, we have 1 - 0. I need a few exact scores in the round. In UCL I am not that unlucky like I am in EPL this season. Benfica, STOP now LOL
Fingers crossed.

30/1 was as high as odds got for Liverpool to qualify, I only managed 24/1 because I took it as soon as we lost at Anfield haha... but odds are now back to a "Reasonable" 22/1.

Do I recall correctly cryptofrka is headed there?

Yup. I hoped for a different kind of game though Grin
Anyway - I'll use this opportunity to check out the city and the Bernabeu, I don't have any real expectations of us doing anything meaningful there.

Real is in a bit of a rough patch but they are a mega team, no way that they are dropping this.

I still put us in for a win on a couple of accas, almost 3/1 seems value. It's too much to expect but if we can count on another fast attack, and hopefully learn a lesson about asking Trent to guard Vini... Klopp is usually stubborn about that so yeah, maybe we need that formation to get goals but if we somehow get 2 first, then we need to switch flanks or even go completely broad behind.

Enjoy!

Watched Brentford yesterday and I must say I was very impressed with the way they play when they are not leading. They were destroying Fulham until they scored first goal, then they just stopped until Fulham got back to even terms. Then again they were much better when they needed to attack. I am not watching them often but based on this one game I feel like they would do much better if they tried to adopt big club mentality and played for goals all the time.
seeing that often with Everton, having good play during 60-70 minutes, and last 20 minutes as different team on the pitch, hardly running at all

Newcastle and Everton I noticed the most. Dyche is even more of that mentality and they powered the whole first game under him (and won) but they didn't even last 45 minutes vs Liverpool.

It does feel like Championship mentality, no better demonstrated than by Leeds...

maybe this is due to player fitness, it would be quite hard for them to press Fulham whole match
not sure, but this is often the case with smaller teams, they lack fitness to play whole 90 minutes in same tempo

bigger clubs have more players, probably better fitness team, and could play even in whole 90 minutes

Am I allowed to congratulate myself? After getting yellow cap, I knew it'd be too much to ask for another one but two fantastic exact scores yesterday and I'm finally, for the first time, out of the bottom and into... 49th spot! Haha. Yes I know there are 2 games left but...
Wait! From 61st to 49th? That's a great achievement 🤣 Congratulations!

Is there any formula to get exact scores? LOL
I am still fighting hard with myself. I was 12th. In the round, from first 5 matches I got correct result but none with exact score then last 4 matches with no points, how funny! I tossed a coin for Brentford vs Fullham LOL

P.S: So I had 0 - 2 for Utd. When Liverpool scored their 2nd I was like fuck it. Let us win and the 7 goals! It seems like a warning for the next CL match 😉

Frankly, I did not expect Liverpool to humiliate Manchester United to this degree, seven clean goals, man.
Now Liverpool players must be men in front of Real Madrid, and if they succeed in scoring many goals, the European CL Cup will be theirs.

Fulham will need to regroup and find a way to secure a positive result in this crucial match. And I don't think brenford isn't ready to get 3 points because he has the home advantage Wink

I can hear, Klopp in the changing room, shouting "WE MADE 6 GOALS IN ONE HALF, WE CAN COMEBACK IN MADRID, LETS MAKE HISTORY AGAIN BOYS"

At the same time, he goggles his eyes and grinds his teeth  Grin I see this picture perfectly too, but in fact, after 2-0 turned into 2-5, it seems to me that Klopp, if he will psychologically put pressure on the players, is only before the game itself. If you do it now, they will simply burn out before they enter the field. And I think everyone understands the difference between United and Real Madrid.

Yeah I always feel like Klopp sets the tone for an entire game. I don't think he does things during the half-time break as well as he does in the build up. I want Bobby to shine, to burn bright and majestic on his Liverpool swansong. I want Salah to exorcise his Real demons. I want it all.

Do I recall correctly cryptofrka is headed there?

Remember our jibes just one, two days ago? About wiping the floor with United etc.
Right, although I have a funny feeling we'd actually beat them, the wiping the floor comment from me was definitely a joke, but maybe I need to make these jokes more often Cheesy. Honestly, I've lost interest with football this season, for a lot of reasons, but of course Liverpool not playing all that well, has definitely impacted it. Although, I've watched them when they were much worse than this, so definitely not the only reason. However, today was one of those games I'll always remember, and will likely be talking about it for years to come.

Yeah. When it comes down to it, it's just the memory lane walk for me. Alaves and Houllier, even though I couldn't watch it live. Istanbul (live and for many days after following as much as possible while internet was still brand newish). Even Rodgers gave a couple of things that stayed with me for a long time (Suarez dive celebration in front of Moyes burns bright).

But it's with Klopp I have the most and the best. And it seems to come even in our worst of times. Our worst season yet and already 9-0 and 7-0 victories? Salah said it best when journo asked about his favourite goal: "The last one".

Oh and please joke about wiping Madrid with Real...

I haven't enjoyed a football game like that for quite some time. It makes me a whole lot more hopeful for next top four also, everything seems to be clicking just in time. We're a serious threat to Spurs now, and honestly I think if everything goes right from now on, i.e we keep everyone fit we can challenge for that third spot. As long as we secure a European spot, preferably the Champions League I'd be happy considering the season we've had up to this point.
