This guy is a Hacker. He just changed my email address and wallet address. He even replaced my Stake affiliate link with another one. I locked this account already but, I don't know whether he is able to recover the account with this signed message.

They'll have to provide a signed message from that address, if they ever want to state something and add a proof they're indeed they and not a compromiser.
Signing a message when staking the address prevents mistakes. They won't be the first to post an exchange's address.

That's not enough... You have to sign a message with it, in order to prove that you have the private key
Why that?

Isn't it enough to just stake the address? That user stakes an address for the first time. Obviously, the one they'll stake will be the owner's. They don't have to prove anything, their first interaction with this thread speaks by itself.

They'll have to provide a signed message from that address, if they ever want to state something and add a proof they're indeed they and not a compromiser.

As I haven't logged in the forum for a while, the message: "This user recently woke up from a long period of inactivity" appears in my trust.

I'd like to sign a message to prove it's me. The following quote is from a signed message back in January:

I've signed a message with the address that I used to receive payments some time ago:

So, please quote the whole message and verify the following:

I quoted it and have verified it using electrum.

Looks like you just recently woke up from a long period of inactivity and tried to prove account ownership in the right way. Its good, If possible, you can also sign messages with a new address that will come in handy in the future.

Staking an address via signing a message has the sole benefit to show the rest of the world that you know how to sign a message with address.
BTW there are people staking addresses with leaked (or available online) private keys for which I don't see the logic behind it.

There might be a good reason to prove that you control an address upfront. I don't know a reason off-hand, but if you are going to stake and address, you might as well take the opportunity to prove that you control it.
I signed the old address with yesterday's date, also I signed new address yesterday, I still do not understand what you mean. I am not implying that you are wrong but neither was I wrong, but your post is highly not necessary. If you think you are correcting me, thank you, I appreciate, but that prove is enough I control the two address. I still have two addresses on this forum that I can sign, but like I commented before, I want to use an address generated on Electrum for the staking which I just did. If I did 1 + 1, and you are commenting that doing 2 is the right one, doing 2 is just an alternative because 1 + 1 = 2  Roll Eyes

The benefit of signing the first time (and with the new addresses) is that it proves that you actually control those addresses. That might be useful, but it does not prove identity.
What's the benefit of knowing that I actually control an address the time I stake it? You have two options.

Option 1: Post an address you own.
Option 2: Post an address you don't own.

Whichever option you choose, you deserve your fate. If you chose option 1, you'll be able to provide a proof of your identity in the future. If you chose option 2, you'll only harm yourself.

Edit: One reason might be if your signing address is used elsewhere and you want to link other identities to your BCT account.

It seems that they don't get this since the 20th post.

I don't fault them. Signatures and their capabilities are complicated.

Another suggestion, I might be wrong though.

If you just put Bitcoin address or PGP key, it is easy to impose another person. A signed message is better.

Why should you sign from both addresses? The new address is posted by the conviction that you'll need it to provide a proof of your identity in the future. You should only do the following if you've never posted in this thread above:

Code:

And this, if you have:

Code:
-----BEGIN BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE-----
I am . Today is . My new signing address is .
-----BEGIN SIGNATURE-----

-----END BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Sorry, I am editing my posts as you reply. I think we are agreeing. The benefit of signing the first time (and with the new addresses) is that it proves that you actually control those addresses. That might be useful, but it does not prove identity.
