The Lazarus group is certainly the most powerful and the most feared hacking group of the world currently, you must have heard of them before but you should not remember. People avoid to talk about them on internet in addition. It's not a very good news for Stake, if they are targeting by them to be honest. I think FBI is replying to some of your questions in their press release.

The FBI will continue to expose and combat the DPRK’s use of illicit activities to generate revenue for the regime, including cybercrime and virtual currency theft.

True, which is weird when you think about it. Country where citizens doesn't have an internet access or real computer education manages to pull off somehing like this is mind boggling. I am assuming that most loyal people will get some sort of access to education about cyber security / hacking. But it's still weird compared to western system. How do they even know who could be talented hacker or are they hiring members from other countries?

It is well documented that autocratic countries send their most loyal students abroad to the best universities they can pay, so they can return back and offer their services to the regime. It is something which have been well documented, how China pays for students to go to Harvard.

So it is easy to picture a country where internet is forbidden for the normal and common people but it is widely available for the North Korean elite and their hacker groups who get money for them, literal fortunes without having to be afraid of prosecution for years (if ever).
Hopefully after this unfortunate attack, casinos will get some extra security measures to make those criminals to put infinitely more effort to even have a chance to succeed again.

Who told you that people there are not computer literate. In general they are much more intelligent and knowledgeable than the drug addicts in the USA

That's an exaggeration. There is no widespread and solid proof they are the most powerful and feared. Also, people did not avoid talking about them in any way.
Really? If it's not them, which other group is it? Could you name it here? Do you often see the FBI doing this kind of press release for a hack that did not even happen in their jurisdiction by the way? I hope for you they are not reading the thread, I wouldn't make fun with that, it's not a joke to do with this kind of people. In the press release, the FBI accuses them of being the culprits of the $100million hack of Atomic wallet in June.

and even though there is no mention or pointer to why the FBI has attributed the hack to this group, but I am personally assuming the group has a particular way they conduct and carry out their operations which the FBI is already familiar with ..

That is what I said, specifically, I think it reasonable to compare how they conduct the post-hack attempts. I also based my assumption on analysis from a blockchain analytics company, they do attribute the past hack to Lazarus by some factor like how they launder the hacked funds, and which service they utilise.

Given that, I believe Stake is already in contact with officials, and certainly, they know more information than we do, which concludes they allege Lazarus Group.

The country in question, don't they have security agents? Are there any efforts being made to uncover and catch all those who are members of this group?

Well, what do you expect from North Korea?

The latest news or rather an update I just saw in one of the news channel I am following on telegram said that the FBI says North Korean hackers 'Lazarus Group' are behind Stake․com's $41 million crypto theft.

I don't know how true this is since there is no reference link or site attached to the news yet ..

But my question now is, if this supposedly turns out to be true, is there any chance of stake getting that money back?, Since the group behind the hack has been uncovered or discovered ?
Yes the news was legit and they have seen how the $41 Millions Was moved from one wallet to another and 33 addresses were found which was used for the transaction of the funds from the casino. And the following currencies addresses were used for the transaction. Ethereum , Binance Smart Chain (BSC), Polygon and bitcoin networks: Electrum addresses were 4, Binance (BSC) was 5, Polygon was 2 and bitcoin which is the king of all the cryptocurrencies was 22 addresses.

https://www.cryptotimes.io/fbi-reveals-lazarus-group-behind-41-million-stake-com-hack/

The hackers used this multiple addresses to confuse the investigation but FBI still figure them out. Well known the group is good but knowing the individual to be arrested and pay back the money is the major thing.

People still can fall to the scam.

Why ? because the scammer bought a gold verified for (company) for 1000$/month. I believe people still falling to these trap, since the scammer is put some effort to buy the badge business company.

If they not bought these, I don't think people can falling to these trap.
It seems like they managed to deceive several people and get money from their stolen profits from spreading the phishing link, because it is impossible for this kind of fraudster to roam around with different accounts every day and sometimes appear in the comments of official tweets, this is strange but they have the money to pay for the gold ticks maybe it's not free, which is why things like this are misused by fraudsters.

I also never thought about why the idea was held that blue ticks and gold ticks could be bought on social media, even now Facebook and Instagram are doing that, this might make it easier for influencers who have difficulty getting blue ticks to buy them easily, but on the negative side it can abused by such scammers.

Very well articulated and insightful comment indeed, but honestly, I have never heard of this so called Lazarus group before, and even though there is no mention or pointer to why the FBI has attributed the hack to this group, but I am personally assuming the group has a particular way they conduct and carry out their operations which the FBI is already familiar with ..

But then again , the fact that you categorically made it clear that there is no way stake is getting back the money even when a group behind the hack is already identified, leaves me with more pressing questions like ..

Why and what do we have special security agents for ?
The country in question, don't they have security agents? Are there any efforts being made to uncover and catch all those who are members of this group? Because I personally believe they are not spirits, they are humans like every one of us living in the same world we all live in, have the same blood and water flowing through their vain, why are they so untouchable?

Is this one of the proves that security agents are only meant to go after and catch only the common criminals out there, and not the high and mighty ones ?

A certain no. Unless the hacker gave it back, which is extremely unlikely. Moreover, it is known that in many past hack incidents that were attributed to the group, the victim entities did not get their money back. Lastly, just because the threat actor is discovered does not mean authority official know their place or have access to them.

I have mentioned in another thread that it appears anything can be blamed on North Korea. FBI can say the Lazarus Group did it and the hacking group is from North Korean's cyber offensive division. We cannot really prove or disprove it and I am afraid that there is a bigger agenda behind this fear tactic. I am not quite certain what, however, we can be sure that it will be something about bringing stricter rules on the cryptospace.

Who is going to go into North Korea to claim back that money that was stolen from Stake? The "Missile Man" will not even respond to allegations like that and will continue to launch test missiles all over the ocean.   Grin

I see Stake dropped a $10 Bonus Drop for the kickoff Game of the NFL, but I do not see anything for the kickoff game of the Rugby World Cup? Cmon, Stake...... give some joy to the Rugby supporters too....  Grin

My Twitter got tagged.
But not from directly a fake Twitter account, the tag using a normal account to the scammer account. It's not just (Stake) currently I just got for (ROO) token fake sale on Roobet-Casino. They scraped the follower data and botting the tag to fake twitter.
Those fake token sellers have targeted Kick.com as well. Random blue badge verified Twitter account has mentioned me in a tweet where they are trying to sell fake KICK token. I have also received mention from random twitter account about the Stake and Roobet token sell. The scammers activity has increased significantly in the recent days, and they are targeting the users of top crypto gambling sites.

I know it's a bad thing to be a scammer but you also need to somehow give props to these people how fast they are reacting and trying to take advantage of a situation, it's crazy.
The wallet hack was only some hours old and they already sent emails regarding this matter adding some phishing links. I wonder if it's the same people that made the initial hack or just a unrelated group.
Same with the token and stuff, they become more inventive day by day.

I sincerely hope nobody lost money because of these scammers, their work gets more sophisticated day by day.

Just in comparison: Stake made around $2.6 billion in revenue in 2022. $40M is 1.5% from that. I am sure that they didn't even need to open their emergency fund for this

So it's not a problem when one puts things in a perpective.
2.6 billion dollars revenue is not a net profit, they have a lot of expenses besides that, including office rent, salaries that they have to give employees, marketing budget, salary for CEO(s), servers, datacenters, new infrastructure, etc. It looks like a big number but is not so big when you dedicate all the expenses but definitely still their profit is pretty huge and I assume 40 million dollar is not a huge deal for them.

Someone is using the current situation to benefit themselves. Check out this Twitter account with the gold checkmark verification. https://twitter.com/StakeRefund

This post is a complete scam. Don't be deceived by it.
Tons of scammers are using the current situation to scam people. One of the very first was StakeAlerts that also has a gold badge. As twitter says, Gold Badge is given to businesses that are verified by Twitter and wonder how were these profiles able to get gold badge when they wouldn't be able to prove the ownership of Stake. Is twitter really so careless today?

Seem like the scammer is not only send a grid message to a leaked address email.

But they actually target followers from stake as well, I suggested everyone who is quite active in twitter (X) and your account follow (Stake.com) twitter. You will getting tags by some random account to a scammer twitter stake fake.
- Refund
- Seeling stake token

Beware, they tag you on twitter based on the follower stake list.
Yes, yesterday I got that my account was flagged for claiming a refund from fake Stake Twitter, unfortunately I have blocked them, actually there are lots of fraudsters like that everywhere on x.com, not just casinos but other airdrop projects are also there, what's great is that they spend money on get the same blue and gold tick as the original account, but I'm sure people who are smart enough to know what they should do.

I think they will never succeed but even so it must be reminded that it is best to pay attention to the x.com username which indicates whether it belongs to the official Stake or not, because I can just see from the number of followers, if it's only a few it means it's not the original x.com Stake account but fake one. I thought I was the only one who often got this sign, but it turns out there were a lot of them  Grin
