No.  Just "when you can bring back any of the endangered species the tree-huggers try to protect."

Looks like some claim to be close... (with bringing back extinct, rather than just endangered)

I suggest you let go of that tree you've been hugging for the past 50 years, step out of the forest, shave off that enormous mountain-man beard, and go look at what humans have actually been doing with regards to research and science since 1910.

You've missed the possibility that instead of a true environmentalist, it's just a kid in momma's basement babbling on the internet tubes.

To be fair, we don't currently know how to survive in space.  This is a big subject, of course.  But it's only by addressing it, and attempting to do it, that we find out what we don't know and begin the movement.  And we've done that, although BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENTS HAVE BEEN INVOLVED, it has been stymied.

We know that Mars is habitable, and that in certain places, with a lot of prep work, we could build biospheres there and transport Earth subsets to Mars.  That might be a two hundred year project, no big deal.

But yeah, it's totally possible that an "environmentalist" might know little or nothing of this.

When you can bring back any of the endangered species the tree-huggers try to protect, give me a buzz.

You want a heads-up for when we can communicate over long distances, have fancy video communications, or space-aged technologies like orange flavored powdered drinks and self-sticking fabrics called "velcro?"

No.  Just "when you can bring back any of the endangered species the tree-huggers try to protect."  Pay attention, i won't repeat this again. Angry

So...[snip nerdrage]

Which part of "i won't repeat this again" don't you get?  And if you can't stop it with them ugly furball sounds, please do it at the litter box, or go outside.  I respect your furry needs, but if this unpleasantness doesn't stop i'm bringing you to the pound Angry

You must think I have a problem with "stolen" money being put towards scientific research. Or that much of that research is even done with "stolen" money  Roll Eyes

I think you have problems with context -- the discussion you chose to cut in on & cough up your furballs all over, in particular.  I had enough of your unpleasantness, now shoo!   Angry

Do you have a problem with spechifying? Because I don't underestimastand you.

That's it.  I had just about enough.  Your shed all over my rugs, scratched up the furniture, peed behind the fridge and now you get RABIES just to spite me!  To the Hello Kitty Rehabilitation Institute & Crematorium with you! Angry

Apparently you didn't comprehend it. Not by a long shot. For starters, I fully explained how your subset of scientific knowledge is not adequate, and why. Additionally, you obviously don't understand ecosystem services. All that's fine, except you come on here and make a fool of yourself. The world isn't as simple as your little mind thinks it is.

And I completely and fully explained how those ecosystem services can be bypassed, and why, and why your centrally controlled ecosystem management is inadequate and flawed.

Ummm, no you didn't. You were too busy arguing how wonderful the McDonald's menu is vs. a restaurant you've never eaten at, which of course, is par for the course for you. You're not knowledgeable on this subject at hand here. I know you think you are, but you're not. You're a pretender, a complete and total fool. Your idea of forum debate is to pretend to know stuff that you obviously don't.

Honestly, you haven't demonstrated any real knowledge about ecosystems anywhere in this forum. But here's your chance, right now. Go get 'em tiger!

So... you mean when we have such fancy-pants technologies as DNA sequencers, DNA assemblers, cloning, and artificial insemination? Or when the assemblers improve from being able to print thousands of DNA strand genes to tens of thousands? I wonder how awesomelysuperduperexcited you were when we went from black&white television to color, or when you upgraded your 14.4k modem to a 56k model. Surely you thought 56k was unpossibru, since we only had 14.4k at the time!!!  Shocked
I'm sure the idea that Public/Private key cryptography and distributed P2P networks can be put together into something like Bitcoin STILL seems completely impossible to you  Grin

Or, wait a sec, what do you mean "bring back endangered species?" If they are endangered, they aren't gone yet. Did you mean extinct?

I have made many long posts about that, but you don't seem to understand that what you want can not be provided by the mechanisms you propose. I explained all of that, but apparently you are either too naive, or too dumb, to understand it all. So it's not my fault that your brainwashing, and complete lack of understanding of economics, psychology, and politics is making you post such frustratingly idiotic claims.

Thank you for demonstrating your ignorance by providing blanket answers with no specifics, and conflated with your immature and simplistic viewpoint.

I put just as much effort into this, and provided just as many specific, as you have. It's only fair  Grin

No, you didn't put as much effort into this as I did. I have a long post here which you claim is all something you learned in high school, and yet your idiotic post about biospheres and physics indicates you didn't comprehend the material within it.

I did comprehend it. I simply dismissed it as irrelevant, due to the fact that we can more or less controll our own environment, even if on a limited scale, and will only get better at it. Plus a list of some things you wanted rebutals to is not a long post. You wanted answers to those things, I gave them to you.

Obviously whenever new technology will come out, you will remain unimpressed, and will continue to claim that the new technology that just came out is all that we will ever have. So why even bother discussing it?

Wow how did I miss this thread?

My 2 cents - if those environmentalists want to be loved by public and extreme at a same time - I suggest them go to distant corners of the world and ambush some poachers or something. Or make something of themselves instead of being a typical hippie, and only after that donate your accumulated wealth to the cause.

As for feminism - every woman understands that word differently, and acts accordingly. Anti-porn feminist vs pornstar feminist (sex = empowering?) and so on.
And all of them forget their ways, when it works in their favor, to resume later.

Hasn't worked out well compared to what?   Where can i marvel at the environmental mavericks "Preserving species near extition simply by backing up their DNA for future cloning ... terraforming entire planets, and creating biodomes and sustainable ecosystems, able to keep us and a few other select species alive indefinitely in space"?

LOL! You never fail to demonstrate your complete lack of vision  Cheesy How about DNA banks set up world-wide that collect and preserve DNA of various species of flora and fauna?

Lol, you can collect & preserve DNA all you want -- it's turning that DNA back into things that live & breed that's the tough part.

You mean, like, with a DNA assembler, which we have had working models of since mid 90's, and which are at the point where we can actually print custom viruses and bacteria? Did you know that some scientist printed DNA to create a bacteria that stores the collected works of Shakespeare in it's DNA, just for the hell of it? Did you know that such devices are becoming so powerful and so cheap that they are now at the top of the list of threats for the NIH, who is worried about people being able to create, hack, and download custom viruses from home, making a viral pandemic something that a school kid could start?

Keep up with the times dude.

When you can bring back any of the endangered species the tree-huggers try to protect, give me a buzz.  Until that happy day, color me unimpressed.  As far as gobment TLAs being worried about stuff?  You know yourself they're a bunch of clueless stooges, spreading FUD so they's cold get their filthy hands on mah tax monyz!  Stop perpetuating their lies Angry

The ongoing research and planning in NASA and various universities about the techological requirements we would need to terraform Mars and Venus? Both these movements are artificially driven by the state. Basically an excuse for socialism; increased state power.

Lol, more paranoia please Roll Eyes
You might dislike it, but girls got paid less than boys and they are not more stupid.

I think that it is kinda unfair.

These movements are state subsidized, this isnt anyone's opinion and it isnt paranoia, its demonstrable.

if you take all of the men on earth and average their pay, and take all of the woman on earth and average their pay, one of the groups will necessarily be payed more than the other. the chances that they would happen to be payed the exact same amount is 1 against ~infinity. suppose its woman and not men, should men start menannist rallies to combat this injustice?

it isnt unfair, woman take huge leaves of absence when they are pregnant and nursing. should the employer be forced to eat this cost? if so why? if so than thats unfair to the employer. if not than the employer must offset this cost somehow, the natural conclusion is slighly lower wages for female employees.

im not sure which of the two groups is dumber than the other but the same principal applies from my earlier paragraph. by any metric you chose, if you average the scores of men and then average the scores of woman one of the two groups will necessarily score higher than the other. i dont know which of the two groups is more intelligent but one is necessarily more intelligent than the other. so by considering this fact we can deduce that by saying "girls got paid less than boys and they are not more stupid." this necessarily means that boys are more stupid. why do you suppose boys are more stupid than girls?

sure there was some serious sexist bullshit in the past. woman not being allowed to work or own land. but we are past all of that. at this point feminists dont want equal treatment, they already have that, they want sexism against men and that is why people dont like them.

But don't fret, for according to you, we'll all be as happy as clams living in biospheres on the surface of Ganymede in ten years.

Are you claiming that the earth will be dead and uninhabitable in 10 years? Why? Please provide proof. If you claim that we must protect the environment, otherwise we will be dead in ten years (or otherwise escape in some fantasy scenario), I'd like some concrete evidence. Because that is what you are saying.

The only final two steps to making growing animals from DNA a reality are perfecting cloning and artificial wombs. We're pretty close on getting those figured out, too.
