The Horror: Jessica Valenti Terrorized on Subway by ‘Passively Sexist’ Twitter Feed

If you take public transportation and use social media on a mobile device, beware of rubbernecking feminists.

Specifically, beware Guardian columnist Jessica Valenti. Some poor guy had the misfortune to be sitting next to her while checking his Twitter feed on the subway in New York yesterday. And just like that, average straphanger became “passive sexist.”

Valenti saw something, but she didn’t say something. At least not directly. She took to Twitter instead, like the truly courageous activists do.  The tweet brought her well-deserved Twitter scorn, with users calling it the “dumbest tweet of the year” and some recalling an earlier Valenti tweet in which she whined about “women on the subway” having no right to “privacy.”

You have to figure that our passively sexist subway schmo would feel his privacy had been violated – if he’d seen Valenti’s tweet, which he wouldn’t because of his passively sexist Twitter feed.

But hey, at least Valenti is consistent in her hypocrisy. After all, she’s the “slut walk” enthusiast who wouldn’t confirm to MSNBC whether she would let her own daughter dress provocatively to fight “slut shaming.”

Either she must have super speed super feminist's eyes to see ALL the feeds on that dude's mobile that fast, or she was a very naughty spying commuter... Not sure which is it.

"White masculinity is THE problem for America's colleges..."

Regret: African-American studies and sociology professor Saida Grundy had tweeted that white male students were 'problem population' at American universities

A Boston University professor who called 'white college males' a 'problem population' has said she regrets making the remarks.
Incoming black sociology professor Saida Grundy, whose comments were criticized by university president Robert A. Brown, had declared on her now-private Twitter account that 'white masculinity is THE problem for America's colleges,' among other anti-white tweets.
Ms Grundy said events in the United States over the past year have made 'the inconvenient matter of race' an unavoidable topic, but she expressed remorse over what she had said.

Boston University continued to distance itself from Grundy's racially charged tweets on Tuesday as its president penned an open letter to the campus, saying the comments were 'hurtful.'
President Robert Brown acknowledged Grundy's right to hold and express her opinions but said her remarks unfairly 'typecast' certain groups of people. He stopped short, though, of acknowledging the comments were directed almost exclusively at whites.

Drunken Elizabeth May beclowns herself over Omar Khadr at press gallery dinner

Published on May 10, 2015
Delivering funny speeches in front of a room full of politicians and journalists at the annual press gallery dinner is a tough thing for any party leader, but it was especially tough for Green Party Leader Elizabeth May on Saturday night.

From the video–

Delivering funny speeches in front of a room full of politicians and journalists at the annual press gallery dinner is a tough thing for any party leader, but it was especially tough for Green Party Leader Elizabeth May on Saturday night.

After a longwinded and meandering speech, which included a few funny jabs, May ended with a shout-out to Omar Khadr, who was freed on bail in Edmonton last week.

“Omar Khadr, you’ve got more class than the whole f—–g cabinet,” May said, referring to the Conservative party, as Conservative MP and Transport Minister Lisa Raitt tried to usher her off the stage.

At the end of the video you'll see Omar Khadr with his trophee at... hand...

Not sure what Omar Khadr has to do with global warming and being green. Unless being green is a lie and she has another agenda. Alcohol set her tongue free...

How can our future Mars colonies be free of sexism and racism?

The white, male European conquerors of the New World and 19th-century American pioneers of Manifest Destiny still colour the space age, so is it a myth that we’ll turn nice on Mars?

[...]

And it’s there, unspoken and unchallenged, at the heart of our current aspirations for space. There’s no room for discussion about social justice or equality when it comes to planning our future Mars colonies because we all just assume that decent educated scientists and engineers – the “right kind” of people – won’t have any problem with that sort of thing.

Except every available single scrap of historical experience tells us that this is an incredibly naive and dangerous assumption to make. Colonies and outposts are portrayed as lights in the darkness; hot spots of progress, ingenuity and adventure. That may be true to some extent, but they’ve also been places of crime, vigilante justice, tyrants, rape, pillaging, abuse and war. It’s true that when things get hard we can see the best in people, but oftentimes we see the worst too.

[...]

It’s early days, but if we really want to create a progressive new world then issues like these should be at the hearts of our efforts from the very start. I hope Musk and his peers open up that discussion sooner rather than later, and I hope that people like Lee can take part in it. The last thing we need is to wake up in 50 years and find that a bunch of #gamergate nobheads are running Mars.

Question: Can Feminists Watch Sports?…

My mornings begin with ESPN. There have been a handful of mornings when I don’t tune in — and those mornings have led to days that have ended poorly. My habitual and somewhat religious commitment to ESPN mornings isn’t so much definitive — it just kind of is.

Increasingly frequently while watching, I’m plagued with a rather disturbing thought. I do my best to squash it and am quickly swept up by the top plays of the day. I’ll do almost anything to avoid the question, because it’s terrifying: is it ethical to watch sports? Is it feminist to watch sports?

I don’t want to ask because I don’t want to deal with the answers. I am a sports fan, so what am I supposed to do with myself and my deep love for ball if watching sports is a moral misstep?

I’ve been avoiding this question for most of my life, and writing about the transformative power of sports since I learned to type. Sports can be transformative for society at large. They tend to do better around issues of race than gender. And there’s work to do around homophobia as well — but it’s work that is slowly, slowly happening.

But are sports in and of themselves a societal good? In other words — are they worth having?

Freud would probably say watching sports is necessary to give everyday non-athletes the opportunity to channel their aggression into something that doesn’t cause them or those they love any harm (not the case for the athlete/gladiators we watch, alas). Sports allow us to live in cities and yell at TV screens instead of starting fights in the street, or so that line of thinking goes.

Then there’s the matter of representation. There’s the increased blood flow to my heart when my dad’s eyes well up when he talks about being a teenager and seeing the first ever all black starting five at Texas Western. Sports matter a lot to me as a black woman. The role models of mine that looked like me on TV were WNBA players. Sheryl Swoops quite literally taught me to play the boys on the playground like they were punks (and I scored 11 points in 3 minutes of playing time — just saying).

What's Right (and Badly Wrong) with Feminism?

Georgetown to College Republicans: do me a kindness and edit the Christina Hoff Sommers lecture

Last week, Ms. Sommers (in some schools, the term “Ms.” is offensive) gave a lecture at Georgetown University in Washington D.C. last week.

The Clare Boothe Luce Policy Institute helped organize the event at Georgetown, and Sommers gave her lecture that lasted a little over an hour. Yet, the school administration is asking the College Republicans to edit the video of the lecture by removing footage of some of the students who raised questions at the event (via Ashe Schow):

Lauren Gagliardi, the school’s assistant director for the center for student engagement, emailed two members of the College Republicans to request they edit the video to remove students who did not agree to be videotaped.

In the email, provided to the Washington Examiner, Gagliardi tells the students that the “edited version needs to be released without students who did not give permission to be taped.” She also says that if the Clare Boothe Luce Policy Institute, which sponsored the event, is “unwilling or unresponsive to the request, Georgetown will need to step in.”

The video that has Gagliardi so upset features feminist activists holding up signs accusing Hoff Sommers of being an anti-feminist or deny rape.

Laurel Conrad, the lecture director for the Clare Booth Luce Policy Center, wrote in Legal Insurrection that “it stretches credulity that Georgetown and its students would not understand that the lecture was a public event. The video camera was in plain view, and audience members themselves appear to be taking video and photos. It could not shock any student that he or she was on camera.” She also noted why she understands why Georgetown is taking this position; it’s a public relations nightmare.

Schow included a statement from Clare Booth Luce Policy Center’s founder and president–Michelle Easton–who noted that once the video was uploaded on YouTube, it’s impossible to edit.

Protein World advert: Formal investigation launched into 'beach body ready' campaign

A formal investigation has been launched into an advertisement for Protein World after a campaign asking viewers if they were “beach body ready”.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) confirmed it had launched an investigation to establish whether the advert breaks harm and offense rules or is socially irresponsible.

The advert has also been banned from appearing again in its current form.

The ASA said: “We’ve met with Protein World to discuss its “Are you beach body ready?” ad campaign.

“It’s coming down in the next three days and, due to our concerns about a range of health and weight loss claims made in the ad, it can’t appear again in its current form.

“Although the ad won’t appear in the meantime, we’ve launched an investigation to establish if it breaks harm and offence rules or is socially irresponsible.

“We will now carefully and objectively explore the complaints that have prompted concerns around body confidence and promptly publish our findings.”

A mass demonstration in Hyde Park, London, was planned against the advert over claims that it was “body-shaming” and that it “aimed to make [individuals] feel physically inferior to the unrealistic image of the bronzed model”.

A Change.org petition campaigning for the removal of the advert reached almost 50,000 signatures within just a few days and attracted condemnation from high profile figures such as TV presenter Susannah Reid.

Extra Crispy? California Solar Farm Killed 3,500 Birds

More than 3,500 birds died during the 377-megawatt Ivanpah solar project’s first year of operation, a new report estimates.
Bird deaths were known at the “power tower” project, which is located in San Bernardino County off Interstate 15 just southwest of the Nevada border. But how many was unclear. Even at the 3,504 estimate, the report considers the deaths a “minimal proportion of local, regional, or national populations” of birds.

Ivanpah, the world’s largest concentrated solar project, uses thousands of mirrors that direct sunlight at boilers on top of three 459-foot tall towers, heating a liquid to create steam used to run a turbine. Carlsbad-based NRG Energy operates the Ivanpah project, which it co-owns with Google and Oakland-based BrightSource Energy.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service previously called Ivanpah — the world’s largest concentrated solar project — a “mega-trap” for birds and insects, although the exact number of deaths has been a subject of fiery debate.

What's more hypocritical that rallying against people that 'destroy the environment' while you can't even keep it down yourself? I'm wondering if those people even know what means.

This is what an evil planet destroyer like me would have done: Bring people together into a place NEAR them, as in walking distance, biking distance. Bring them to a stadium. Put up some kind of a giant screen. Every leader would be on skype (no need to use air force one) then talk to the people and spread their lies ideas...

You are a green artist? Make a track every year for mother nature. Free Download with the video so everyone can see your concert without burning millions of gallons of fuel. Your fan would chose to send $$$ to the cause of their liking or the purchase of your track will go to a cause of your choice. Your fans can shake their booties at home...

But what do I know...

"PLEASE SCULPT YOUR SHIT BEFORE THROWING. Thank U"
Leo is systemic of all people who believe in anthropogenic global warming. These fucking tards are the same ones that buy fluorescent lighting for their homes to replace the evil incandescent and toss them and their mercury into the trash when they burn out.  They are also the same ones who toss their device batteries into the trash when they go bad.

In their zeal to impose phoney science they overlook the poisoning of drinking water because they flushed their big-pharma meds down the toilet. They allow GMO foods to proliferate, ignoring changes they cause to humans at the genetic level.

Their savior Al Gore forgot the real inconvenient truth when he started his Carbon Credit Swapping Business, the real reason for his movie. You see he and his partner, David Blood, have set up a multi-billion dollar scam to siphon carbon taxes of our backs.

Their company is called Generation Investment Management but one can not ignore the irony of two partners called Blood and Gore. Seems fitting for two scumbags stealing from brainwashed idiots who think that humanity is evil so we must be taxed for the air that we breathe.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/larrybell/2013/11/03/blood-and-gore-making-a-killing-on-anti-carbon-investment-hype/

They can all be summed up in two words:

Brainwashed Idiots

My Goodness, you spoke my mind, thank you very much. those are our puppet we say jump they say how high, we say speak they do what we wrote, but but... one day I will know (this one is for the real ones).

I prefer to sum it up in a sha2 tag. it's clean, machine readable and permit faster processing.

yeah the gig is up. time to see who is swimming naked... the sharks are out, and they are fucking angry that such tagged have dared to cross the line... don't forget as a famous poster of www.dailytech.com that I will not name, now they even want to force vaccine me... ahahah this is the line, it's become a threat, we prevent it, what ever the cost, on the American soil even. war is raw, and it ain't Hollywood (for those asking who is the domestic enemy poster, ask Micheal Asher, everyone in big oil know him, and it's the same enemy again). this d.e. will be used, trashed and disposed, it's their flagship... I don't care who is behind, mrls if necessary and absolute wasteland on a scale never seen before, on lenses.

edit: and if you read that, my d.e. let me tell you that herd are culled by wolves. the pack is here, and you cross the line... be ready. I don't care of your life, or of the one of anyone you cared (scaling to oblivion).

edit:

http://conservativehideout.com/2015/04/19/earth-day-concert-on-the-national-mall-eco-freaks-trash-the-place/

on this it must be noted that only around the trash can their is trash... why can't they clean d.c. like they do... of course what ever the size of the extermination camp in America they will be too small to accommodate all those subhumans occupying America... but at least there the trash is near the bin... very impressive... I hate littering. only subhumans do it.

Why don’t people behave in more environmentally friendly ways? New research presents one uncomfortable answer: They don’t want to be associated with environmentalists.

That’s the conclusion of troubling new research from Canada, which similarly finds support for feminist goals is hampered by a dislike of feminists.

Participants held strongly negative stereotypes about such activists, and those feelings reduced their willingness “to adopt the behaviors that these activities promoted,” reports a research team led by University of Toronto psychologist Nadia Bashir. This surprisingly cruel caricaturing, the researchers conclude, plays “a key role in creating resistance to social change.”

Writing in the European Journal of Social Psychology, Bashir and her colleagues describe a series of studies documenting this dynamic. They began with three pilot studies, which found people hold stereotyped views of environmentalists and feminists.

In one, the participants—228 Americans recruited via Amazon’s Mechanical Turk—described both varieties of activists in “overwhelmingly negative” terms. The most frequently mentioned traits describing “typical feminists” included “man-hating” and “unhygienic;” for “typical environmentalists,” they included “tree-hugger” and “hippie.”

Another study, featuring 17 male and 45 female undergraduates, confirmed the pervasiveness of those stereotypes.

Not sure about title, i think feminists are a pain in the arse these days, they are kinda redundant.

Well. NOT ALL feminists. The third wave feminists.

The title (of this thread) stays as is, so no one can be accused of pushing a foxnews agenda... Salon.com said it.
