I am wondering who will be the face of Olympics this time, Usain Bolt was the start attraction in the last three games and he will be missed big time, we will never see another athlete like that and even i had a wish to see him compete live and never fulfilled that dream and never will which is sad. New events are added in this Olympics. Any fan favorites participating in this event, if so i would like to know.

Omicron is another FUD
Isn't a little bit early to start a thread like this?
Olympic game is an amazing sports event with a lot of bets, but what can be discussed at that point? There is still a long way to go for the athletes and for the teams till then...
personally I agree with you, this a little bit early, around the next 11 months  Cheesy

on the other side, I support the OP starting this thread, and this can be used as a core thread.. but in the future, this core thread is better divided into more thread sections  Grin

I don't think it's too early, if there are already qualifiers coming up and betting events, why not?

I don't know if anyone remembers but the handing over from the last Olympics to Tokyo was pretty cool, with the Tokyo mayor doing a Mario-esque reception. Football is always a good option for me but I have been following badminton every edition, and since the last two Olympics, a diver from my very own tiny village somewhere in Southeast Asia got a silver (and we didn't even have a proper swimming pool for her to train in!) so I of course follow her every chance I get.

P.S. Cool thread coinlocket! Let's keep the fires burning here!

But the qualifiers are separate sporting events, not directly related to the olympic games.
A discussion around Olympic games would be who is going to win the gold medal not who is going to qualify for the Olympic games, that's only my point of view.

.. snip ..

I think Hidilyn Diaz also competing in the women's weightlifting category, she is one of our great hope to win our first Olympic gold medal
she is getting a lot of support which she really deserves, she gives a lot of honor, it's just ok that she asks for more support, which has become very controversy last year.

https://www.rappler.com/sports/by-sport/other-sports/237416-hidilyn-diaz-receives-funds-for-bid-tokyo-olympics-2020

Well, I guess this news article from Rappler is just new because of Hidilyn Diaz doesn't have any sponsors back then, and I guess if you would look at the 2020 Summer Olympics on the wiki all participating countries and the numbers of participants if you would look at the Philippines there are just 1 participate, for the time being, I think it will still get some updated and the event will be on July 2020 so there is still time for some preparation and last decision making to make on who's going for the Olympics and make our country proud.

I wonder though why the Philippine government is not focusing on games that they can win gold?

Basketball? They should focus on boxing, looks like they have a history of good Olympic boxers.

I have nothing against their basketball team, but with the recent performance, that money spend by some private individuals should have gone to their locals who have a high chance of getting a medals like Diaz in weightlighting.

I know that this is controversial specially basketball loving country like the Philippines.

This event will be Next year are you not to early to post it here? But anyways like the old saying says the early bird gets the worm, but anyways I guess there are a lot of updates that will be announced anytime soon and Tokyo Japan is readying its country in this coming great event, where many countries will compete for supremacy and with the said event there are some 14 added sports event including the 3X3 Basketball and I guess that will be awesome to watch and a great addition in my opinion,

And yes the Philippines just have 1 sure competitor to enter for this 2020 Summer Olympics that is on the Men's Pole vault I guess because of lack of sponsor but let's just wait for the update and verification.

This is a good reference for people, it's good that we have this kind of thread even if it this early, people are going to check online about the Olympic and this thread will show up, I hope OP will keep updating this thread, there will be a lot of news and updates coming as we head towards the Olympic.

Numbers in parentheses after the nations names are number of athletes that has qualified for 2020 summer Olympics and they are constantly changing. Do not forget to update them regularly.

I agree that we should start early about the Tokyo 2020, it's the biggest sporting events after all.

@buwaytress - wasn't aware about the turn-over.

Swimming for me though, about badminton, isn't it there's some controversial from the last two Olympics?

@coinlocket$ - Would it be better if you edit and say that this is "Summer" Olympics as to distinguished from  "Winter" Olympics (although it will be held in 2022).

But yes, this is definitely a good thread.

Thank you to the author for this thread. The only time we forget about military conflicts is the time of the Olympics.  The whole world is waiting for the summer Olympics 2020 in Tokyo and our forum is no exception. I hope that at the upcoming Olympiad Russian athletes will not have problems with doping, as it was at the Olympiad in 2018. I would like the sports games to be fair and spectacular.

A well done thread. The Olympic is coming near and the world is ever divided on ideas and acts. Hope this Olympic like most others would build a platform to bring the world together keeping aside our political differences and be a true sports with genuine sportsmanship.

I think is nice to be reminded about the Asian Olympics with the table you have presented but talking about betting on it now won't get much traffic because gamblers have leagues currently running that they are focused on.

You have a point, there will be a lot of spam that is going to happen here because we are discussing something that is going to happen in a few more months, it's better that OP lock this thread or moderate it, compare to the Joshua - fights, although two months to go  we can still create a lot of discussions as they are both visible promoting the fight.
