so far, i have 3 boards that dont work and one broken board, gone through only 6

How are you troubleshooting the boards?

I suggest one known good controller, one known good ribbon cable, and test each board with the known good components.

DO NOT use power extension cables for testing!
(don't know if the franken has them but they have a high failure rate)

One thing to look out for is the ribbon cable to ASIC module connection.
On the controller side they have keyed sockets to prevent mis-installation.
The ASIC modules just have the pins without the keyed plastic housing.
It is possible to mis-install the cable at the ASIC end.
Also keep in mind the stripe on the cable indicates pin one.

Subdivide and conquor!

Hope this helps! Smiley

I don't know what the Sweedish translation of "penny wise and pound foolish" is but I think it applies to KnC.
Frugal to a FAULT!
They probably spent more due to errors from easy mishaps that they would have spent to prevent them.

Who is going to buy from Knc again?

I bet not many.

People will buy if price and product is good and NOT a 4-6 mo preorder (2-3 wk probably OK).
Are you saying that ~2th machine for $3499 in 2 wk is not competitive? In 4 wk-I don't know.

Strong rumors re KnC announcement tomorrow on spond board.
My prediction:
1. Neptune in 7-14 days at 3.5-4.5th instead of 3 plus new cloud hashing option similar to Cointerra. Boring.
2. More interesting: Reduction of price for Mini neptune to $3499 (if they are smart) or $3999 (if they are greedy; at 2th), which would be available in 3-4 weeks. Again, if they want to really push it, make mini available in 2 weeks. Mini is the only thing they can use to fight SP-10.

If not 1 or 2, then it is lights out eventually.

Guess it is option 3.

things arent looking good here right now, ive got 6 boards put together, ive tried to different controler boards and i cant find the jupiter on my network, using advanced ip scanner

I couldn't see a Jupiter I added to my network after disconnecting a different Jupiter.  Advanced IP scanner was useless and the config page of my router would not refresh properly.   I tried so many things to no avail and out of exasperation, I ran the "Router Setup Wizard" that came with my router (even though I had been using it two years already) and it worked.

Good luck!

does the bright white LED light come on for a few seconds about 30 seconds after startup? what lights do/do not come on?
grrrr....    dude.....   if no lights....
You have nothing to lose by trying the cold-heat pen on solder points...  it may work fine after 5 minutes "on the bench"

Please, the "cold-heat pen" comments are getting repetitive. Most people aren't going to do this as it would certainly void the warranty. I'm glad you love your pen but please stop.

Besides, the controller boards components aren't generally bad. There are helpful posts on the KNC forum addressing the problems with the controller boards.

Controller board problems:

If you cannot access your controller board/beaglebone. Please follow the below instructions.

If you cannot access the beaglebone through web or SSH, it is most likely due to corrupt firmware, you will need to re-flash your beaglebone

Here are the instructions you need to re-flash your beaglebone:

Please download the following file: https://www.kncminer.com/userfiles/f...age_0.99-E.zip and follow the instructions below.

1) Copy the ZIP file to an SD card and unzip the content of the archive on to the micro SD card formatted with FAT file system.
2) Turn the miner off via the power supply off switch and disconnect from the wall.
3) Open the case of the miner.
4) Insert the micro SD with the recovery files on it in to the SD card slot on the controller board
Note: to insert the micro SD card into the slot it might be necessary to unplug the flat cables which connect the ASIC boards to the controller board.

5) Reconnect the power supply and turn the power on.
6) Please wait while internal MMC flash memory is reprogrammed there will be a sequence of LED as follows:
1,2,3,4 blue LEDs on the BeagleBone will turn on, then bright white LED inside the case turns on for several seconds and then the red + green LEDs on the control board are on this means that the programming is in progress. When only the green LED is on for 5 seconds this means that the recovery was successful then all LEDs should go off and it means that the procedure completed.

7) Turn the miner off again and disconnect from the wall.
Cool Eject the micro SD card from the controller board.
9) Plug in all the cables that were unplugged and ensure that they are secured.
10) Reconnect the power supply and power on. The miner should then start from the on-board MMC flash with the software revision 0.9.9-E
11) Install the latest firmware if you can access the miners interface: https://www.kncminer.com/userfiles/f...miner-1.01.bin

If your miner is still inaccessible:

Note: If you still cannot access the interface, please disconnect each ASIC board and then try to access the interface. If you can access the interface without any ASIC boards connected, you will most likely then have an ASIC board which is causing this issue. Please then connect these individually until you find the problem board. Once you have found a problem board, please let us know.

LIR DEV
it flashed 3 times, but never stayed on for very long
hmm, If I remember correctly, the bright white L.E.D. light is supposed to come on for about three seconds(once), indicating the actual bootup.(what mine did)
It may be not booting up at all....
anyone?
