Chances are there to Moeen Ali to open the innings but he evolved as more bowling all-rounder in recent times so not sure that he is capable of producing a good partnership in the start even though the run rate is not that much required for a team like CSK because they can make it up in the death overs with strong middle order so all they need is to someone to start the innings slow and steady.

If Moeen going to open then Faf will play in the middle order?
CSK needs a good striker and who is opening the innings and Faf du Plessis is coming at one down in the last season and i am not sure who will be opening with Watson gone and i am expecting Moeen Ali to be the right replacement and he will make a difference.
Ruturaj Gaikwod showed good intent in the last few matches and scored 4 consecutive half centuries if I am not wrong so he is going to play the slow and steady innings whereas the other partner need to open up like watto or precisely like Brendon Mccullum in the past. Smiley Hope Raina will be back into this IPL so he is the best to fit to play at one down so Faf will be forced to play at number 5 or even below if Moeen going to open the innings.

I am quite surprised with the inclusion of Glenn Maxwell. He is regarded as a good T20 player, but his record with IPL is not that great. On top of that, his performance in the recently concluded BBL was not also up to the mark.
Glenn Maxwell can make a difference if he is gets the freedom and motivation and with Kohli and AB de Villiers in the team he might get that freedom and help to perform in Indian pitches.

A similar surprise in this set was Aaron Finch. Even though he is standing at about the end of his career still I expected some team would need a destructive opener like him in the team. I was surprised to see Finch, Roy and Hales being unsold. I think due to limited overseas slot everyone wants foreigners who are all rounders and not just batsmen. Because same thing happened with Shaun Marsh too. Marnus Labuschagne was also a surprise for me. Even though he hasn't proved himself upto that extent in T20 until now. Still due to his technique I thought he isn't that expensive at just 1 crore. But yes next year would be like a mega auction with all players coming back to pool once again.
Bad auction for almost every batsmen. Top scorer of BBL Alex Hales also goes unsold along with many other batsmen. Marnus is not big name in T-20 but he's entertaining personality when on the field. He deserve some bidding for his ranting, needy, innocent nature (he's kind of "Taare Zameen Par" Type of guy), I like him.

If Moeen going t pen then Faf will play in the middle order?

Chennai was plagued with slow starts during the last year's tournament. They need someone who is explosive at the start. Moeen is explosive, but he is more like a bowler who can bat a bit. CSK believes that he can play the role that Sunil Narine has with the KKR. But it needs to be seen, if things work out like that. I have always believed that Moeen is a player who is more suitable for ODI format than T20.

CSK needs to pay attention towards the middle order as well. A lot of times during the past season, they lost matches while batting second. Slow batting by Kedar Jadhav, and to an extent that from Mahendra Singh Dhoni can be attributed to this. If that is the case, the I have a feeling that Moeen may be more suitable for the middle or lower middle order.

The good thing is they bought Moeen Ali but they already have Jaddu so going to play with two All-rounders? Roll Eyes
They might experiment Moeen Ali as the opener as he is a good striker of the ball and with Watson retiring he can take that spot and he is a useful spinner. Chris Morris got the highest big and he will be a good addition for RR and Glenn Maxwell goes to RCB and now they have AB de Villiers, Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell to strengthen the middle order and if they cannot win, not sure what changes they should make.

On top of that, his performance in the recently concluded BBL was not also up to the mark. It was Hales, Vince, Philippe and Lynn who got the runs and ironically almost none of them got selected in yesterday's auctions. The franchises went for the "tried and tested" players rather than giving chance to youngsters.

even they bought Pujara but don't know the actual reason for doing it because they don't have any spot for him to play.
Think about Josh Hazelwood. Poor guy is his teammate. Pujara already bored him to death in last 2 series now he's up against him in the nets.
Even Pujara didn't expect such scenario, Cheesy

IPL is helping the players to build a good friendship from all over the world and also it exposes the strength and weakness via nets and IPL to the international matches.

Exactly why pujara?
Only out of respect, it was good gesture from all the franchise when everyone appreciated the buy. Unfortunate that Hanuma Vihari went unsold, he took a few hit on body for team India in recent series, he could be bought on base price but it seems everyone ran out of money and slots.

~snip~
Next year new team is coming so get ready for more bid war for everyone.

CSK again invested in the older players, even they bought Pujara but don't know the actual reason for doing it because they don't have any spot for him to play. And bought K.Gowtham which also not convincing as CSK player because I thought they would buy someone who can be a match-winner like watto. The good thing is they bought Moeen Ali but they already have Jaddu so going to play with two All-rounders? Roll Eyes

Exactly why pujara? K.Gowtam is a good buy but they really needed a finisher who can finish alongside MS Dhoni. Moeen Ali will be the off-spinner they are lacking after Harbhajan Singh left them.
I still don't get why Harbhajan left CSK?

What was about Chris Morris? He is highly overrated, 16.5 cr for him is too much money. That much amount on him means he will play each and every game for your side and will win for you at least 5-6 games.
I don't get the fact why RR bought him when they already have ben stokes.

I have made a list   of players bought by each team. Just check it out.

I am not much surprised with the lack of interest for Hanuma Vihari and Kedar Jadhav.
If it was bid for test team then he, Pujara and Rahane would go for record bid war but its t-20 format. Kedar jadav is considered dead weight now.

@vishnu true. He was good bowler but that one over ruined his IPL career

Woah, Maxwell sold for whopping 14.25 crores despite of his poor form in the previous IPL. I think punjab would have thought for once that they could Buy Maxwell for something less than 10.75 crores but RCB and CSk were too excited for him. I think his form post IPL against India is the main reason why every franchise was so excited about him. I am surprised to see Steve Smith sold for so low at just 2.2 crore. I think bowlers will once again be more valuable than batsmen.
Maxwell fiance is Indian so he's basically privileged damaad and have big fan following despite his poor show with bat, he was good with the ball tho. This is mini IPL so no one focusing on batsmen, one of the reason he didn't attract any bid. NO 1 t-20 batsman David Malan went to Punjab on his base price, no one even bother to bid on him. Everyone want bowlers.

All rounders or batsmen who can ball a bit attracting a bid war. Dubey is considered Allrounder, Moeen Ali, Maxwell and Morris comes in the same category. Although Morris and Maxwell are over priced.

Very true this is something I have seen in the auction this time. Everyone running behind bowlers or all rounders. I think this is pretty much justified if you see the previous IPL it was the bowlers in each team that have created a difference especially in critical situations. I think almost every team have full fledged batting unit with openers and finishers there are just a couple of spots here and there which everyone tried to fill in their batting.

Jhye Richardson doesn't have a regular slot in the Australian national side and he was purchased by Kings XI Punjab for 14.00 crore. I guess the fact that he is not a part of the national side would have worked to his advantage. It also means that he is available for the entire duration of the tournament. Perhaps this is the reason why players such as Smith and Shakib received such low bids. Bowlers and all rounders seems to be in good demand, compared to the batsmen.

This time the auctions really surprised me. The teams had made their targets before the auctions and went hard for those targeted players during the bidding. Many of these teams had sizable purse and they were ready to splurge as much as $2 million on good players. But I am perplexed about why players such as Roy, Carey, Finch and Lewis went unsold. They are among the best T20 batsmen in the world.

Richardson and Nathan Coulter-Nile went for good amounts, but Sheldon Cottrell was not that lucky. His IPL career is essentially over, destroyed by Lord Tewatia.

Maxwell remains one of the legends in T20 cricket, despite his poor record so far with the IPL. So that price tag is rather justified. But imagine this - 2.20 crore for Steve Smith, who is one of the legends in cricket and almost double that amount for the relatively unknown Shivam Dube. And some of the very good players have gone unsold till now - Karun Nair, Alex Hales, Jason Roy, Evin Lewis and Aaron Finch. BTW, I am not much surprised with the lack of interest for Hanuma Vihari and Kedar Jadhav.

Bidding war initiated for Chris Morris right now.. teams are going all out to purchase the player whom they have targeted. First the bidding war was between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore, but later other teams also joined in later. Finally he was sold to Rajasthan Royals for a massive 16.25 crore.

^^^ The auctions will start in around 1 hour 45 minutes from now. From what I can see, KXIP has the largest purse, and they may go for the biggest names such as Maxwell, Morris and Smith. Total of 298 players are up for bidding. BTW, it will be interesting to see if there is any interest for veteran players such as Kedar Jadhav and Harbhajan Singh. Marnus Labuschagne is also a player to watch for during the auctions.

Anyone waiting for the IPL auction for 2021 which is going to happen on Today and pretty much excited about the teams pick for their.

Any Idea about who is going to be sold for huge price tag in this season? My prediction is that Steve Smith.
Its mini auction so not excited enough but franchie released some big guns so looking forward for some bid war.
CSK should target Smith
RCB should buy Maxwell
Delhi could use Shakib, Morris.
Finch ---Don't know--

Here every franchise stands atm

Punjab Kings got more money to spend in this action and I feel they will definitely target those big guns for sure.I think the action is expected to begin at 14:00 at IST and live action available on various channels.
