I believe no one in the BCCI setup or franchises for that matter expects the same success as Men's IPL.
The poor state of the Women's NBA is a fair argument but I'd say WPL won't follow WNBA's route. Only because the recent media rights deal of WPL suggests that it won't become a subsidiary of Men's IPL and can sustain itself
It is too early to decide the fate of WPL. The first season is still going on and after its conclusion, we will come to know how well did it perform. I doubt that WPL won't be generating any revenue for BCCI as it has already done that when the media rights were sold. Now the main question lies in the revenue of the franchise. Most of them are in this business for quite some time now and they know how to make it a profitable venture. We need to wait for the viewership data that will be released after the conclusion of this season. That will give us an insight on the success of WPL.

Every new thing is going to be interesting for people. We all know about a lot of controversies that happened in the men's IPL. That was a big reason for the men's IPL to become popular. I am not saying every club should look for controversy in trying to make the women's IPL interesting. But I simply think that the fact that there is no controversy is an indication that a lot of people are not interested in women's sports. But if any league, the women's T20 league in cricket does have the potential to get popular, I think it is the women's IPL.

Who is watching the Legends league final today between World Giants and Asia Lions ? Giants did not start the innings well and they are now struggling at 114 runs in the 17th over. The top oder batsmen failed today but Jacques Kallis scored 50 runs and is still at the wicket giving some sort of reasonable target. He was helped by Ross Taylor who scored 32 runs before he was bowled by Perera.

The good thing about the match is that you can watch it live on youtube. It's rare that you see a match being broadcast live on youtube.

My argument is that even if women's IPL is somewhat popular, it is never going to be as popular as men's IPL. It is never even going to be a very good business, to be honest. The best thing that might come out of this is the players that will represent Indian women's cricket. The profit is never going to be enough for most of the big businessmen. Of course, it is going to be enough for the broke people who always try to play it safe. But I think it is too early to say. Probably they will make enough profit eventually.
Just think of IPL, at the first season. It takes time and it is a wrong calculation to compare men's IPL with WPL in terms of revenue. Even before the start of WPL there is not much interested on it. Now the audience and viewership have increased than calculated. When the franchise number increases automatically it'll gain even more popularity. Maybe WPL isn't that profitable as IPL, but it is sure to generate profit, no doubt in it.
Men's and women's league will never be equal. It doesn't matter how big an investment or promotion, it will never get the equal position. But its good and bad things can be judged comparatively. The Womens Premier League has just started. If it will not be 100% successful this year but there will be more improvement in the next seasons. If a few sessions can be completed regularly then a big revenue can be earned from this tournament. At that point we can make a comparison of the women's league with the men's.

Personally, I do not think women's IPL is going to do as well as men's IPL. Doesn't matter how hard or for how long they try. I am saying that because we can easily take the example of women's NBA.

A country where the feminist revolution is at its peak and women can get a lot of rights that even men don't have. For a long period of time, women's NBA is not generating money. They have to take money from men's NBA and health women's NBA continue. I am not saying that women's IPL is impossible to generate profit. I am saying it is going to be a thousand times harder compared to men's IPL.

WPL should not be compared with male IPL. Men's cricket has a huge following. And so IPL became popular worldwide. And a lot of money can be earned through it. But women's cricket is still relatively less popular. There are very few people who are interested in watching women's cricket live. One of the reasons for organizing the WPL is to popularize women's cricket. Women's cricket has gained a lot of new viewers as a result of the WPL. If the audience increases, they will be able to earn a lot of money in the future.

It is base less to compare women cricket with men. At the moment Indian women cricketer are not even close to Australian or English cricketers. First BCCI & the franchise needs to work on those grounds then we can compare them with Men cricket. I also agree WPL won't be generating as much revenue and craze like men's cricket. But both these franchise league will help BCCI generate more revenue and improve cricket infrastructure. That will give more opportunities to the cricket playing youth for both genders and overall help the Indian economy.
Both Indian IPL and Womens Premier League will increase the revenue of the Indian Cricket Board but it is common thing that IPL is the number one T20 cricket league in the world with the highest investment. No other cricket league can compare with this. On the other hand the Womens Premier League has just started. As the first season, it has gained a lot of popularity. In the next session better cricketers will be available and this event will gain more popularity. But it is certain that both the Indian women's and men's T20 cricket leagues will be the top cricket league in the world cricket.

What I am a little fearful of is that probably the women's IPL will also have to be funded even though it is not going to generate some actual profit. But one thing that is good in India is if they do not see a profit, they are not going to probably continue. Unlike in the west where some feminists shout for equal pay when they are actually playing in a loss project(WNBA)

It's the first edition of WPL and the learning curve for the officials and franchises, now they have tested the water and from now on all focus would be on skill development. All franchises will also do BCCI's bidding for obvious reasons, similar to Men's IPL scouting, camp etc so give it a couple of more years. These things take time for sure but it'll happen eventually.

IPL league is really one of the best cricket league in the world. As cricket is progressing day by day through this league, we are seeing new players. Many cricketers' careers progressed brilliantly through this league.

This will definitely take time to change mindset if people in our society,  its hard reality majority is still finding difficultly in accepting women in sports I am basically pointing Asian countries.
But BCCI and ICC is working alot on this this will definitely bring positive results .

Lost both my bets yesterday thanks to UPW and RCB winning their respective matches. UPW struggled to win against MI while RCB decimated the opposition thanks to Devine primarily who is similar to Gayle in some ways.

Felt sad to see her get out on 99, but that was a blistering knock for sure. Looks like GG are on the bottom now.

WPL has only 5 teams and considering the performance of each team it seems the most probable teams to qualify for the finals of MI and DC. This is why you need 8 teams. An even figure gives more competition if you understand the calculation. When you have a group in odd figures it will always end up like the way this first season would end. BCCI should make WPL more competitive rather than controlled by a few teams.
BCCI should also start extensive ways to get more talent. After watching this season of WPL, I feel women's cricket in India needs a lot of improvement in the grass root level. I never imagined Indian women cricketers are struggling to bowl and field like overseas players.

Also, where the heck is the IPL 2023 betting pool? Expected @Royse or @JSRAW to host it.
Thanks for the reminder bhai. Got distracted due to BGT but the IPL thread should be up in the next couple of days.

IPL 2023 is right around the corner and I am excited as usual for it. GT will look to try and retain the title against the competition which is going to be crazy difficult. This is also most probably MSD's last IPL which truly sucks, but is understandable.

The Gujarat team played well. They still have the potential to finish third or second in the table.
Third is completely possible while second seems like a stretch since they won their recent match against DC primarily thanks to luck. Capsey and Kapp run outs turned the match in their favor.
Am not expecting such stuff to repeat which is why DC is the most likely contender for the second position.

Gujarat Giants had a good performance overall. I honestly did not think that this score was going to be enough. But in the end, there were able to perform well on the bowling side.

Also. I think they understood that this score was not going to be enough if the DC had wickets in hand. So they did the right thing. Even if we look at the score now after the match has ended, I think we can say that they were actually going to lose if DC had wickets in hand.

Pakistan's bowling line-up is a bit weaker now than before. At the same time, the team does not get good performances consistently from the batsmen. The performance of the team depends on the performance of Babar Azam and Rizwan. I haven't seen a match in a long time where Pakistan won despite these two batsmen performing poorly. So PCB should focus more on their batting line-up before improving the bowlers. Pakistani players are not performing well at home ground either. The party is now in dire straits.
Since the World Cup Bangladesh has improved as much as Pakistan has deteriorated in their cricket.  Earlier, one of the mainstays of Bangladesh's bowling line-up was spin, now Bangladesh's bowling depends on fast bowling. Taskin, Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud, Ebadat Hossain, They have developed a lot in their bowling. Besides, in terms of batting Tamim Iqbal, Liton Kumar Das, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim but they are doing well regularly. Pakistan's batting depends a lot on Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, Pakistan needs to do well in this position. Not only should they rely on the two of them, every batsman in the team should have the ability to do well, but Pakistan will be a complete team.

You are right. Earlier we saw that Bangladesh depended on their spin bowlers. The pace bowlers would not have been able to make much of an impact. But now the scenario has changed. Bangladesh's spin bowlers as well as pace bowlers have improved tremendously. And they now have the ability to challenge any big team. Also Bangladesh's top order was weak. Bangladesh's performance depended on the performance of their middle order. But now Tamim, Liton, and Shanto are doing excellent and consistent performances. The Bangladesh team is very strong now. And my expectations from them will be a bit higher in the upcoming ODI World Cup.
