Talkimg is down here on my side for a few hours already...
Anyone noticied it?

I think I have found a bug in the image uploading tool.

When you upload an animated GIF to Talkimg, it is converted into a PNG file, so the GIFs get frozen into their first frame.

You're talking about the zip tool, right? - https://zip.talkimg.com/
It really doesn't make sense for him to convert GIFs to another format. Thanks for the alert, I will look into this to try to improve.

EDIT:
If you are talking at the time of upload, it would look like this:

Don't worry, the image remains as a gif:

This never happened with Imgur, for example.

Any chance that this gets fixed? I don't think it's that hard actually - just use a library to check if the GIF has animated frames, and only if it doesn't, then convert it to a PNG.

I'm surprised that even the voting takes a month we only received minimal support or votes in that contest. You can count the number of votes on your fingers. In comparison with pie contest, the pie contest received a lot of attention because it was supported by the forum. You can see it in the announcement column on BitcoinTalk. I'm not sure if the TalkIMG contest was also visible there. Perhaps the pie contest had better prizes but when it comes to joining it was easier to participate in the TalkIMG contest compared to the Pie Contest. Anyway, still a successful contest.
Probably because it's not shown in the News, unlike with Pie Baking Contest that got there which lead to more clicks since people are likely to get into it than this one. There's going to be more of this contest anyway, it's the first one right? So I don't think that it's a bad thing, it's good that this finally started, it will only be up to the organizers and sponsors how they would handle the next one. Well duh, it's definitely easier to join this one because there's baking and some labor involved there wherein this contest, you only just need to take a picture or even take a picture on the Internet to join and that's it but that don't mean that this contest is any lesser than that of any other contest here.

As far as I know, one shouldn't respond to DMCA. I mean, if someone receives email from them, you shouldn't reply to their email or send any other email. Just take any material like it's nothing. Please anyone correct me if I am wrong but I know one has to be careful with DMCA complains.

You don't need to deal with them directly. Basically, the term DMCA refers to requests to remove content due to copyright infringement.
When a DMCA notification is received (from credible identities or the author himself), in order to avoid problems the content must be removed. This is, of course, if this retaliation is true and credible.

By the way, today I was digging into satoshi's posts and noticed this thread: Idea for file hosting and proxy services. If satoshi is alive, he must be proud of you for creating a TalkImg. Your product is different but still would make him happy, I bet.

I'm sorry I didn't read this topic years ago. I certainly would have launched this project sooner!  Roll Eyes

No.  The method of upload has no bearing whatsoever on copyrights.  What is important is that the owner of any copyrighted material has a way to remove it with a DMCA request.

I actually have to improve my information on this. Thanks for remember. Wink

I'll check it out, and believe me there will be news soon!  Wink
Wouldn't downloading images directly from an URL cause you more copyright problems? You won't be able to claim a user uploaded it.

Not exactly. Because the upload system is exactly the same, whether using a file on your computer/mobile phone or using a link.
All parameters remain, following the same system as currently.

That sounds easy enough and I’m sure it works great. Probably 99% of the time I spend on this site is on my mobile though and I don’t think that is possible, or I’m about to learn something.

My bad if this has already been discussed but I have a feature request...

It would be great if we could upload images via url through the website somehow.  I see it's possible via other tools but being able to do so straight from the website might make it a little easier to post memes.

Well, first of all I apologize if I haven't explained that yet. But, it is possible to do something similar, without directly using the link.

Try doing the following:
Open the TalkImg website, and the website where there is the image you want.
Go to the window where the website with the image you want is located, click on it and drag it to the TalkImg tab/window.
If it is a compatible image, it will begin the upload process.
(Tested on Chrome)

Try this and then say something.  Wink

But, I ask, do you think this "restriction" should be lifted?
If you want any limit in storage and data consumption, you shouldn't lift it Wink

This. As any website could start to use it. Which means you could run into porn issues and or simply tons of images 10x or 100x. the volume could be overwhelming.

Traffic wouldn't be my problem. Perhaps the biggest problem is the moderation time.
Fortunately, I haven't had any major complications with "not allowed" images, so far I've only had to delete 3 or 4 images with inappropriate content.

But right now, I feel comfortable with the current model. And they plan to expand the project in other areas.

That actually make sense, talkimg images posted in altcoinstalks loads too long, you can observe it when you load a thread with talkimg image on it that the browser tab is still loading and the lower left/right of the browser has "Transfering data from talkimg.com.." for too long.

I can open the range to altcoinstalks, if many users here really request it. It doesn't bother me, as long as they respect the rules. Now, I wouldn't provide support there.
But, I don't think there are that many supporters of this.

Since I started using talkimg.com here in BitcoinTalk. I also started using TalkImg.com in other forum. I check my posts before in the other forum using TalkImg.com and the posts are still good without any issue, errors or problems. Not only in altcointalks but other forums like buy and sell forum.

Like I said, it doesn't bother me, as long as you follow the rules. I just warn you that the settings limit traffic to other sites, which can cause instability. But, if you haven't had any problems, ok. I just don't guarantee that this will always be the case.

what is this "brake pedal" you speak of?
I started using it recently, for other forums
You should not use Talkimg service for posting images on other forums, or they could be removed and deleted, this was stated by joker_josue.
Talkimag should be used only for uploading images on bitcointalk forum.

Well, I'm not going to delete/removed these images that are uploaded.
The issue is that the server is configured to only accept traffic coming from Bitcointalk. That doesn't mean it doesn't work on other forums. I just can't guarantee that they always work.

But, I ask, do you think this "restriction" should be lifted?

i would be cautious about unlimited access for other sites as seems it would be easier to abuse and that could cause bct image issues.

maybe some officially whitelisted sites with full privileges with others on a "maybe, maybe not" status with some sort of throttling.

If there's no downside on the server and no legal issue (copyrights) (well you can mention it on the website terms), why not?
