I hope this means that Murray can finally play without pain. Berrettini is a good player, you cannot win a 5-setter against him if you're physically struggling.

Đoković is scheduled to play - which is good news. He missed the last 2 trainings and there were some concerns that he might withdraw from the tournament.

Actually woke up a bit early to see what I could catch and already see the heat in AO (I'm reading 30 degrees and wondering, wait, that's not that hot haha but I don't know Aussie heat!) has some havoc. Thiem bit the dust, while in women's local girl wildcard has knocked out Kanepi.

Murray and Berrettini were just fighting it out for breaker on 4th set now, was hoping the Brit would take this but this is now going all the way.
Watched the first three sets and came to the conclusion that the 4th set would be a win for Andy Murray. Later saw the fourth set won by Berrettini 79 - 67 on a great fight and the last set won by Andy Murray 710 - 66 after a great fight to win the match. During the earlier sets itself we were able to experience the aggression between the two. The real heat of the tournament is being felt in the first round itself.

Sinner really started the AO fantastically - Edmund is a decent player and he managed to get only 6 games.
Based on the result alone, Nadal looked comfortable as well.
The biggest disappointment so far is (again) Borna Čorić, losing in straight sets against Jiri Lehečka.
Kyrgios withdrew from the tournament due to injury - which is a shame. I had him as one of the favorites.
Nadal looked very comfortable indeed, but yeah, I think I remember reading Trofo saying about Nick's chances and I don't think we're alone in thinking he could go far, but knee injury means he's out. Big shame really, crowd favourite and he brings a lot to the entertainment factor.
Two epics going on now. Fucsovics looks like he'll make it but Wawrinka seems set to be another bad AO outing.

It has to be said that Wawrinka played very well in this match. However, there was also a lot of skillful play from his opponent Alex Molcan and I cannot say that this is a match in which there was a deserving winner. However, I think that after a match like this, we are all going to agree that whoever won, is the deserving winner of such an event. As far as Wawrinka is concerned, he has actually been a little unlucky.

@crunck there were two key incidents in Nadal match which needs to be highlighted here first one was where Nadal shouted to the umpire that that ball boy had taken his racket away, and that could have probably effected his rhythm but despite that incident he yet managed to win.

Further the second incident was the use of floodlights which wasn’t needed for this match, and this issue effected both the player’s but it was sorted out quickly and lastly I’m praying that Nadal remains fit because I would love to see him win few more trophies before he retires.

Yes, Dominic is predicted to make a comeback. How far it works will be known in few hours as the match is supposed to start within an hour. Last win for Thiem was in the Vienna open and his latest to reach the Semifinals was in the European Open where he lost to Korda on a tight match. This match needs to be a fighting one than just a one sided game.
It's unfortunate his comeback didn't go well, the draw wasn't great but it has to be accepted as he is a wildcard player in this tournament, 3 straight sets losing to Rublev, Thiem still needs time to get back to his best.
Berrerrini vs Murray, Murray took the first set, maybe he'll make a surprise but I pretty much doubt he will because he was no longer in a great time.

Didn't see the match of Nadal but will be interesting to how far he can get (if his knee doesn't act up to much). Too bad that Kyrgios can not participate, he is always entertaining to watch and when he really puts his mind to it, he is one of the best players in the world. I think it is only a matter of time before he wins a grand slam.

Dominick thiem will make his debut in the australian open tomorrow but unucky for him he will face rublev one of the best players right now, since his return from the injury he hasn't been the same i don't think he will be able to beat rublev even though rublev is not doing great recently i think the best he can do is winning a set or two.

I don't think I will get to see any matches live unfortunately. Looking through
the results on both the man's and women's side I don't see any upsets as such on day 1.

Nadal finished strong in that 4th set 6-1. If it was a three set match you would say it was
a close one but alas the 5 set GS is a completely different thing to deal with.

Yeah, if it was a three set match everyone would've thought it to be a close match. In the first set it was a great fight from Nadal as he wasn't able to finish the set within 6 points. In the second set Drapper made good comeback and levelled 1-1. Anyhow it is known Nadal to win the match. The young player gave the best and it is like Drapper's age is the experience of Nadal in tennis. Upcoming days might bring more unexpected results as young players are competing each others.

Looks like we will see another upset as Musetti is down 2 sets to nil against Harris and down 6-5 final set, and he is serving.

I haven't seen any match yet, but I have this in my timezone so it's going to be easy for me.

Interesting first round between Rublev and the comeback Thiem, unfortunately, Dominic has the bad side of the draw as he will be facing the 5th seed in his comeback game here in AO.

there are three players that i expect to see some top level tennis from them in the Us open, Korda, Shapovalov and Sinner, i've seen them play before and i really liked their style, they didn't do much last year but this could be the year for them, i'm expecting at least two of them to reach quater finals and semi finals, it would be hard for Shapovalov because he might face Medvedev a little early, but i'd probably still bet on Shapovalov if make it through.

Guys, he is 1.77 to win outright - are they not good odds before the tournament even
kicks off?

That's the whole point... you don't even get your stake back as winnings IF he wins the final. Why not go for him now at handicap or live bet after going a set or two down. Martingale that way if you want, you'll end up with more money if you do that every round till the final.

One slip and you lose everything, just not worth it (to me).

Ah yes I see now, it makes more sense to play it that way, only thing is it's difficult with
a 12 hour time zone difference.

Nadal v Draper is in the 4th set, Nadal has broken to go 3-1 in that set, he should bring it
home from here now.

Draper have been giving tough fight. Finally Nadal have won the first set 7-5. Nadal jumped with joy once the first set has been won. Until the last moment both the players were in extreme pressure. The first set lasted 54minutes, and the second set in my opinion is a win for Nadal in an easier way.
Games were very tight in the first set and Nadal was able to break Draper's service in the 12th game to win the first set. In the second set, Draper immediately broke Nadal's service. It looks like this match will last at least 4 sets or even longer there is 5 sets and it's not impossible that there will be a surprise because Draper has been pretty solid so far.

In less than an hour matches gonna start. Big list of matches to continue. Days of entertainment begins and many have some specific matches to be watched. It's been long watching a match from Nadal. Waiting to watch the match of Nadal against Draper. We know the result, but Nadal isn't in the form as the past.

The Australian Open starts tomorrow. Nice that there are a lot of matches in the first round. The differences in strength are not as great in a number of competitions as is the case in other sports. Often you have about the number 30 against the number 65 in the world. On paper, that could easily fall in the direction of the underdog. Only the top 10 in the world usually wins their matches quite easily in the first round because they really are an elite group of tennis players. Djokovic visibly enjoys the presence of him and his many supporters. He is still very popular, despite his attitude about the Corona Virus. Fortunately for him, that virus is now far behind us, otherwise he would still not have been able to play this tournament because he refuses to get vaccinated.
