If you had to bet on something I would go for Djokovic, but there are more hijackers on the coast.

cannot see anyone that can win AO over Djokovic at the moment
he is looking stronger now, than 2 years ago when he won last title there

or competition is looking weaker, there is no single player that can withheld 5 setter with Djokovic, and he is playing just what is needed to win so far, have enough reserve to push a lot more

easy money for outrights?
I did not see Alcaraz play recently but he can win against Djoković for sure. He can run as much as Djoković and has even more fire power. Djoković has only experience on his side. Alcaraz wants to finish the exchange with winner every time and he will understand with time that all that matters is that he wins the point. it is equally good if you force the mistake from opponent.

Djoković is mentally the best player on tour but I am thinking Alcaraz can already post a challenge to that as well. It just shows in his results, last season Alacaraz won 5 major tournaments and none of the smaller ones. That shows mental capacity to be best when it is needed the most.

Great job by Djokovic that he managed to win this match against Costa in the final. Surprising name for an American. Costa even got a match point in the 2nd set. However, experience was the deciding factor. I heard Djokovic hasn't lost a game on Australian soil for 3 years. That is a good perspective for his participation in the Australian open. Based on this data, we can conclude that Djokovic is certainly the best player on this surface at the moment. Alcaraz does not participate in the Australian open unfortunately. If you had to bet on something I would go for Djokovic, but there are more hijackers on the coast.

''Two-time champion Naomi Osaka has withdrawn from this year's Australian Open just eight days before the start of the tournament.''
''Osaka, a winner in Melbourne in 2019 and 2021, has not played on the WTA Tour since September and has slipped to 42 in the world rankings.''
''No reason was given for the 25-year-old Japanese player's withdrawal.''

Source: https://www.bbc.com/sport/tennis/64201877

I really like Osaka as a tennis player and I was really hoping that she would finally return to top level tennis and that we would see her in Australia.
Unfortunately, it seems that she can't overcome her mental problems and is further away from returning to the top of world tennis.
It's a shame because it's really a big loss for world tennis to lose such a great tennis champion.
Do you think there is still hope for Osaka to return to tennis?
Serena also ended her great tennis career and now women's tennis has become less interesting to watch for me, I believe others too.

I believe she will come back, the reason is not stated in the article and my guess is still about her mental health which has always been an issue for her, it's very unfortuntaed that her young age has to stop because she has so many chances to win the title.
I don't consider the women's section to be less interesting but instead it is the most awaited thing for me because who will be the champion will not be easy to predict, but for bettors it is indeed unattractive because it is difficult to predict the results of every game.

Shame to hear the news about Alcaraz, I expected him to be the biggest obstacle for Đoković. He was actually the 1st seed, correct?

Đoković had some problems with Korda today and I don't feel he's in perfect rhythm so far. I still feel he's the man to beat, but I also feel he'll struggle more than what we were used to seeing before.

The first matches are only a few days away, I'm really looking forward to the AO.

so Djokovic will face Korda in the final of Adelaide, they both haven't lost a set yet in the tournament, but things will change in the final, Djokovic to win is set @1.17 which is really low, i don't really know what to bet on in this game, all i can think of is Djokovic to win in two sets, maybe the bookmakers know what they're doing, it's kinda low but the best i can get out of this final and those odds.

Well he is 1.47 ATM in the tie break if the first set. this IMO is a fantastic price on someone
like Djokovic. Losing the first set is not detrimental at all.

He is gone out to 1.7 now after losing that tie break. This is a big opportunity to bet on Djokovic
winning the next two sets.

He really wants/needs to win this tournament to set the stage for this season to take back
that #1 spot.

ALcaraz has posted a message on his Twitter account that he cannot participate in the Autralian Open. A pity for the tournament and for the organization, but also for himself. A fairly harmless movement has caused this injury. Since the Australian Open is not yet to start, it seems to be a fairly serious injury. Otherwise he would have had at least 1.5 weeks to recover and maybe longer. The way for other players is now open. I wonder how Djokovic will play. With the women it also takes some getting used to since Barty stopped last year. There seems to me only 1 person to be the real favorite for the title; the player who only won a lot last year.

This is some bad news for the tournament because we arent gonna see the no1 at the tournament. This will probobly mean that he will lose the first position aswell because he aint getting any points. Djokovic to win the title now looks even more realistic now that Alcaraz wont play on AO.
Yes i agree this will make winning the tournament much easier for djokovich with a tough opponent like alcaraz gone, djokovic this year seem the best player so far especially after seeing him beat medvedev easily yesterday he is surely the favourite now, we will see more after seeing the players performance in the tournament.
In the Madrid open semifinals Djokovic got defeated by Alcaraz. Just for that reason we can't say Alcaraz to be the only competent. We've got a big list of young players who have been on the lead. For Djokovic this year is going to be very competent. If the covid-19 restrictions come to effect, then surely Djokovic will miss few tournaments.

Oh that's bad if we are not going to see him at the Australian Open for this year. So does this mean it's a clear path for Djokovic to take this years AO although he is the betting favorite.

Just a few glimpse on the Adelaide tournament, not betting though, as I'm looking at that AO to be the first tournament that I'm going to bet for this year.

Good matchup though between, Djokovic and Medvedev next.

I agree with you, Djokovic always plays very well in Australia and he won most of his GS titles in Australia.
Djokovic beat Medvedev 6-3 6-4 a few hours ago and is close to winning the tournament in Adelaide.
Alcaraz's withdrawal will certainly help Djokovic to win the GS tournament in Australia more easily, and this may be his last chance to catch up with Nadal in the number of GS titles.
He will certainly not be the favorite in Paris if Nadal plays, and in America he still cannot because of the strict Covid rules.

And that would have won the bet, Djokovic win the match 6-3 and 6-4.
It is by far the best bet to take when thinking someone would have close match. +5.5 handicap is the only bet that guarantees you win if favorite does not make more than 2 breaks. All other versions or +4.5 handicap have ways of being annoyingly close but not good enough in the end. You just know you are loosing +4.5 handicap when favorite serves first. I like to eliminate stuff like that from my betting outcome even if it means lower base odds.

Good insight Trofo, thanks for that.

It's bad news for sure, I'm a bit worried that he is picking up injuries so early in his career.

Djokovic has beaten Medvedev and is into the final at Adelaide so yea it seems that he
is totally driven for this year, of course the 5 set matches are different but ATM he is performing
well.

With 1 top player missing in the AO so far it means there is one less threat for him.

It is very sad to see young players who have many chances to win but are hindered because he often face injuries. This is not the first injury that has forced Alcaraz to rest and lost the opportunity to play in several major tournaments.
Djokovic is the clear favorite here, and Alcaraz's absence increases his chances of winning the title again.

Two more days, the Australian Open will start soon, and all tennis players have prepared themselves,
2 more days it looks like only the qualifying matches for players who are out of rank to be able to play in the first round of this tournament, the main draw will begin January 16th.

Both djokovic and medvedev had easy wins with a 2 0 score against decent opponents its the perfect begining of year for both players but unfortunately they will face each other next on the adelaid tournament, its a hard surface so i expect it to be a total war djokovic is in a better shape i think he will win but with an extreme difficulty i expect a 3 sets game.

I would pick over in this match and djokovic to win against medvedev

Medvedev and Zverev, when in form, are probably closest to Djokovic on hard surface, and this could be interesting
but I don't see Medvedev winning, since he was far from best form, and it is season beginning, Djokovic is holding much better when comes to tough matches in early phase

and it is almost a tournament win, although it is far from important for both players

We should expect total war from both players in this semi final. Both players love this hard surface and they are the best on it so i think we might see a three set match. I would pick over in this match and djokovic to win against medvedev
