I favored Rune against Rublev, did not bet on it though.
The reward for the winner is the QF against high flying Đoković, who's started strongly against De Minaur as well.

The semifinal in that part of the draw will be fantastic for whoever wins there, it seems like Shelton and Paul (both unseeded) will fight for the SF spot.
Shelton is already through, while Paul is currently 2-1 in sets vs Bautista Agut.

Djokovic started very well against Minaur and currently leads 6:4 and 5:1.
He looks like a tennis player on a revenge mission after everything that happened to him last year in Australia.
I'm really not sure which of the remaining tennis players in the tournament can stop Djokovic on his way to the title. Tsitsipas? I don't think he's ready yet.
On the other hand, Bautista Agut has big problems in the match with Paul and is on the verge of defeat. I thought this would be a much easier match for him.
Currently, Paul is leading 2:1 in sets, and there is a big and uncertain fight in the fourth set.

Rublev - Rune is the match to watch for me tonight. I can't decide who is closer to winning so that is usually a good sign to place an over games bet. Both players are known for bad and good streaks in the matches and I wouldn't be surprised with 5 sets here.

...and 5 sets it is and now 5-5 in the final set. Looks like Rune is having trouble finishing
it out, he was 4-1 up!
Easiest money yet in this AO, there really was a lot of strange results so I needed this one.

Would have been even better if Sinner managed to turn Tsitsi, I was already counting it as win after he got 2 sets back, but he had no chance in 5th set. Not every day you get that close to hitting odds @9.5 on single match.

Swiatek was the absolute favorite to win the title in Melbourne this year. But she is disabled. It kind of reminds me of Djokovic in the year when he won everything and nobody could stop him. It is not for nothing that she is number one in the world ranking. She has won a Grand Slam tournament 3 times so far. Australian open and Wimbledon never. So not this year either. These players have risen very quickly. In 2019 she reached the final for the first time, and now she is currently the best (or one of the best) players in the world. Things can go lightning fast. Not as fast as the development of Carlos Alcaraz, I would have liked to see him play in Melbourne.
Whether it is football, tennis or any sports we were able to encounter much unexpected outcomes. Iga Swiatek losing to Rybakina is one such incident in the women's tennis this year. These kind of unexpected outcomes make the tournament even better. The loss too happened on direct sets which is much disappointing.
I remember those time when there was women tennis players were the famous all over the world - now less people know about women players however men get all the recognisation
There was a time when Steffi graf - who won 22 Grand Slam singles titles - and spent 377 weeks at the top of the WTA ranking, the most of any player.these kind of superstar are missing now.

On the women's side, Swiatek has been knocked out by Rybakina, is anyone betting
on the women's side? I have only had 1 bet that's it, it's very unpredictable.
I lost a 10 match parlay because of this match, stupid enough to place a bet on the match against the Wimbledon champion as i did not anticipated this upset in direct sets and not just because of her number 1 ranking but considering Iga Swiatek was in great form throughout the week and she could not handle Elena Rybakina and to loose the match without much fight is disappointment. It is better to wage a bet on live matches rather than pre match bets.
It is though to react to new situations. Swiatek was virtually unchallenged in the last couple of big tournaments and she did not have practice with close matches. I know it sounds as a weak explanation but when you are steamrolling trough your opponents you don't have to think about plan B or grinding it out.

Ah it's very close between these, tie break now in the final set.

I expected three players who are supposedly underdogs in Australian open, Shapovalov, Sinner and Korda, apparently only Korda is still in the tournament and I'm expecting him to keep going forward, his next opponent is Khachanov and Korda is the favorite to win  against him, after that he might face Tsitsipas in the semi final and I'm predicting that Korda could reach the final, we'll see what happens, he's a young talent and I saw how calm and well composed he is even against tough players.

Who knows, with him everything is possible. But i think he has an injury but not a bad one. We will see in the next couple of rounds if it is serious or after the tournament. He currently looks unstoppable and looks like he will win the tournament easily.

He went from not being able to move to returning 200km/h serves easily in the space of a few minutes.

Then he complains when the crowd boo him and plays the victim lol.

Andy Murray was unable to play the third and fourth sets as the first two sets. As said, the body health hasn't helped Andy Murray better. In the second set itself he's tired of fighting hard to win the set. If the second set an easy win, then Murray might have went even closer in the further sets. When his body isn't supportive, it is good to retire and take rest. Let's see who else reaches the semi finals other than Djokovic.
His body is not supporting him, it's visible. Therefore, I also think it's time for him to retire. And the way he is playing and also getting injured frequently also points towards the fact that he should retire. It's understandable that he wants to fight the aging process and continue playing. But at a certain point, enough is enough.

Tsitsipas eventually won in 5 sets, 6-4 6-4 3-6 4-6 6-3 in a very uncertain match.
He will now play with  Lehecka in the quarter-finals and looks to be on his way to another semi-final in Australia, his fourth in the last 5 years.
It seems to me that Tsitsipas really likes playing in Australia because he always achieves very good results there.
Could this finally be his year and opportunity to go all the way and win this tournament?
If not this year, I think it's only a matter of time.
I think this might be his year. If he can play well consistently he should be able to win the tournament. But he will obviously have a long road ahead of him. I have no idea if he will be able to reach the finals and win the competition. But it does feel like he has the capability.

A great match from Tsitsipas and Sinner. Tsitsi initially seemed to be heading for an easy victory with a 2-0 lead in sets, but Sinner fought back and at 2-2 in sets it could go either way. Tsitsipas is not just the number 3 in the world, today it became clear why. He is one of the players who could beat Djokovic. But that will also depend on how Djokovic's body is doing. I don't know if his injury has gotten any better. At least 1.5 days of rest now before his next match. His next game is against DiMinaur who comes from Australia and can therefore count on massive support from the home crowd. That could have an impact on the score. It could also be that Djokovic has to give up injured at any point in the game. Hamstring injuries can be very painful.

Sinner is 2 sets down now, I wonder if he has all the tools to be able to turn this match
around? personally I don't see it either.
...

He has just win the third set and has one breakpoint of advantage in fourth set!
Impressive... he is playing very well and the boy from "San Candido" (in this town they speak Deutsch and not Italian Wink ) has enough cold blood to play and perform good also on fifth set!
Lets see... as Italian my heart is with him Wink but I am scared to place a bet (actual odd is around @2.25) Roll Eyes Tsitsi is not an easy player Sad

I sure hope so Smiley Got up a bit late today and missed taking the bet on Sinner before the match, took it now at 1:1 in 3rd set @9.5. I know that is long shot but I feel like Sinner will get 3rd set and after that anything is possible. We shall see, did not need to put much on the bet with odds like that.

Did not watch much of WTA side but I see Swiatek is out, that was a big surprise for me, she is usually so good in these big tournaments. Wide open now for anybody to take it.

Murray v RBA up soon as well as Dimitrov v Djokovic, hopefully Dimitrov takes the first
set from Djokovic and we get a value bet because it's hard to see Djokovic losing.
Murray does not look good, he is fighting but he can barley walk between the points at the moment. Sort of expected with two five setters back to back. Would be heroic if he can turn this one as well.

Djoković is wrapping thing up in his usual way, it was a though first set but after that it was all Djoković with just a couple of good points by Dimitrov here and there. By the way Djoković also had some injury problems, this is the best opportunity for many players to actually win Grand Slam title. Just push trough and hope Djoković stumbles along the way, most top players are out already.

I got a bet on Djokovic at 6-6 in the first set, his odds went out to 1.35, not fantastically
brilliant but not bad on Djokovic.

Always knew we were going to say goodbye to a lot of players and seeds well before QFs (sorry for making a pointless point) but I did not think to see Tsitsipas still alive this late. One of the guys I used to bank on a lot, to great disappointment, and finally having given him up, if he goes on to take AO I will crack lips smiling.

P.S. He's only still in second set after taking the first but on the way Sinner's not able to convert enough breaks, I think this is over.

Is novak playing mind games out there?

Maybe he isn't as injured as he wants us to believe?  Undecided

That's right, Novak never ceases to amaze us and proves one again why he's a great champion. However, it is important to keep in mind that he might suffer an injury at any time, which could hinder his effectiveness. Let's see how he does in the next rounds, but I think that he's looking well thus far. Our best wishes are with him that he maintains this momentum and wins.

Murray was empty today. It was great that he still managed to win the 2nd set, but when you see him walking down the track it looks like he could fall down at any moment. He was already close to elimination in the previous round. I don't know in what perspective to put Murray's performance. Would it be a prelude to more successes or was it just incidental? Djokovic suffers a lot from his hamstring injury, but still managed to win convincingly against Dimitrov today. I don't know who his next opponent is but I hope for his sake he gets a few days rest now to let his injury heal if at all possible.

At this point I want Murray to stop putting. So much pressure on himself. And retire. It is actually making me really sad to see him like this. I also thought that between sets when he was walking he might actually fall down. But I have to say he got a big heart because he kept going. However, his body is not as strong as his mind.

Novak Djokovic played really well even though he did have a hamstring injury. He will play against Alex de Minaur. The problem is the match is tomorrow. He really could have used some rest.
