You are right currently Djokovic is going to play in US open as he want to win 18th Grand Slam title and its golden chance for him with these new generation players he can do this achievement all these players already confirmed as they are going to play in this years US Open Dominic Thiem, Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev.

It is a golden chance for him to win but also for the new generation. Medvedev came close to winning last year and also has a decent chance this year.
It all depends how the players come out of this period and in the case of Djokovic, it wasn't so positive.

why do you think that? IMO, Djokovic will win the tournament with ease, there is no real opponent within this bunch of new generation players for him (btw. they are new generation, but not young, in their ages Nadal was a king-of-clay already with a 40+ consecutive wins on Roland Garros and many titles in his hands)

I agree with you.
Players of that new generation, such as Medvedev,  Thiem and Zverev are very good but they always lack something to win the biggest matches at GS.
Lack of experience,  or they can't stand pressure, who knows but they are still not on the same level with the biggest players.
Currently new generation players have no ability to beat bit guns as they are no mentally fully ready for this they have to do some hard work for this if someone can do right now is just Medvedev no other player is doing like him in recent years as Zverev was also good but now not as Medvedev.

It is now official, Nadal has pulled out of the US Open. Seems to me a good and logic decision.
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-08-05/rafael-nadal-pulls-out-of-us-open-tennis-citing-coronavirus-con/12525022

I am wondering who will be the next top player that will not participate at the US Open...

If I remember correctly, Federer cancelled this tournament a long time ago, and apparently according to recent statements from Djokovic, probably he also plans to cancel this tournament.
This could mean that for the first time in 10 years or more, no player from the ''big three'' will play.
The question is who will play then and whether holding this tournament makes any sense at all?

Based on the latest information on the US Open website, Djokovic will still compete; other big names that will be present are Thiem, Goffin, Medvedev, Zverev. Federer will not compete due to a knee injury.
https://www.usopen.org/en_US/news/articles/2020-07-31/2020-07-31_usta_statement_on_2020_western_southern_open_and_us_open.html

But I agree with you, in my eyes, it doesn't makes really sense to organise the tournament. Especially as the situation in US is out of control...

i do not think that Djokovic is going to miss free grand slam, since there will be no Nadal or Federer to stop him from winning one, he will compete for sure, despite all that he said or done lately

IMO, tournament will be organized, and i do not see a problem with that, they are already playing NBA and MLS, so why not having a tournament, situation is not that good, but elections are near, and things are getting back to "new normal", at least until the elections

After being rumored Naomi Osaka will be absent from the US Open 2020, but finally there is clarification from the management
team that Naomi Osaka will participate as well as in the US Open 2020. This makes me as a fan of Naomi Osaka happy to hear
this news, and also rumored Naomi will also appear at the Western and Southern Open 2020. Which is an annual tournament
commonly held in Cincinnati, USA. But for 2020, Western and Southern Open will be held in New York city in mid-August.
The tournament will be a competitive tournament Naomi's premiere since the last six months.

Is this already official ? I can't find any source that she will officially compete at the US Open.

Kyrgrios also pulled out of the US Open! Too bad, as I like to see him play because he always gives a great show  Grin.
https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2020/aug/02/australian-nick-kyrgios-pulls-out-of-2020-us-open-due-to-coronavirus-pandemic

Too bad if Nick are going to pull out of the US Open, but we can't blame him and the others.

As far as any official statement from the US Open organizers, we can't find any as this point as players are continuously withdrawing. Maybe in the last couple of days we will see who are going to participate in this tournament. I do hope that there will be some in the top 10 that are willing to step up the plate and compete for this year.

Its a shame that Kyrgios has also pulled out but as I said 2 weeks ago when we first heard that several top players won't be playing at the US Open that I suspected that there would be more to come. I just hope that there will be some top players playing or no one will care to watch as the top players are the ones that get the people to watch the games. But at the end of the day we can't blame most players pulling out with whats going on in the US right now.

Good observation, yes probably the viewership will suffer if there will be no names players that are going to compete in this years US. But at least the game is moving in this pandemic and that is what's important for now. And maybe if this tournaments becomes a success with no casualties, (no players are infected in the US) there is a big possibility that in the next tournament, there will be more players to see specially in the top 10 joining the field. So let's see how it goes, and wish the best out of this tournament.

I see a lot of discussions regarding upcoming US OPEN both ATP and WTA side but nobody mentioned that we finally have first tournament after corona break.

Women are playing in Palermo and lot of top 50 players are attending. Not the best tournament but much better than any exhibitions we had during the break. Just watching Vondorusova - Juvan and there has been some very nice points after Juvan realized she can play against much more famous player without problems. I smell an upset here.

It is officially an upset  Smiley. Juvan won in 3 sets against the nr 2 seed! I think we will see some more upsets this week and in the upcoming tournaments.
Also the nr 3 seed (Sakkari  and the nr 5 seed Mertens are already out.

Managed to get nice odds on this one @4.5 in the end of second set set when it was quite certain that Juvan will manage to take it, just few minutes before I wrote previous post. Too bad I played it for minimal stake since this was my first tennis bet after the restart and wanted to start slowly to see if I still understand the game Smiley

Yes Naomi is really good in playing tennis. No wonder she had many fans wanting to play in the US open because of her competetiveness. However, my idol tennis player in womens division is Maria Sharapova. A russian player that currently lives in the united states. She is currently number one in the rank amongst the list of the best player in tennis league.

Anyway, hopefully Naomi too will be able to surpass Sharapova. She has the talent and skills and there is a high chance that she can do it.

Federer played a lot of matches in his tennis career but this match on the roof of a building with 2 girls was probably the most special for him.
Take a look and enjoy!!
Because of things like this, I really love and respect Federer.

https://twitter.com/parthpunter/status/1289459758412345345
Beautiful video! Thanks for sharing! Again Federer shows his most human side. The video was created to fulfill the dream of those beautiful girls, the surprised face of them when seeing him is a unique and exciting moment, he always had a warm and gentle smile.
Very good for Barilla! By the way. It's one of my favorite spaghetti pasta.

I wouldn't worry about what China are doing as they are not a big sporting country anyway. Yes they support tennis in a big way but just because one country won't hold any tennis tournaments this year doesn't mean its the end of the tennis season. Just look at what other sports leagues around the world have been able to do so I can't see why a hub couldn't be set up in some countries and tournaments can be played. Yes the quarantine is a major factor however I'm sure one country could host several tournaments in a 2-3 month period. I am starting to think that its coming down to money because there will most likely be no fans at the stadiums and that's where a lot of money is generated for tennis where as football they have a huge supporter base and the same with US sports so they can keep going without fans attending. Tennis is a lot smaller then most sports in the world which is why we are seeing not much tennis played because like I said its less risk with 2 players playing compared to team sports like football and the US sports.

I'm sorry but I disagree that they are not a big sporting country, although they don't have any names in Tennis, and the last player we heard from them is Li Na. But still they are big are far as sports like NBA and soccer. I would say that compare to other sports, it seems that tennis organisers are somewhat in disarray (not the players) that's why it can't go on in this new norm while other sports are trying to get back. This is just my honest opinion.

Well compared to European countries and the US, China is nowhere near a big supporting country for sports. That's the point I'm trying to get across as some think that just because China won't be hosting any tennis tournaments this year that its the end of tennis which in my opinion is false as there will be tournaments played in Europe soon and the US Open is still going ahead along with the French Open so its not the end of tennis just because China don't want to host any tournaments.
