Today is day of upsets in Australian Open as have many big players out of tournament Tsitsipas, Bautista-Agut R, Williams S, Keys M and Osaka all gone now lets watch who is next to have ticket for home tomorrow.

Yes, lots of upsets as early as today, the biggest one is Naomi as I have said. Bencic is also ousted, and so is the #2 seed K. Plíšková.

@Strongkored - Federer still proved that he can pull the trigger, he is not yet done, I do hope that he can reach as far as quarter finals, won't be an easy road for him, but let's see.

Serena Williams lost the chance to add more Grand Slam title to her records after losing 3 sets from Q. Wang.

Ouch, she is not the worst case for the women's side. Gauff defeated Osaka 6-3, 6-4 in the third round. This 15th year old is already showing some sign of being a great tennis player. Damn, I'm not really sure of the odds, but I'm looking at her that can make an upset to Osaka.

Yeah I agree that Gauff is the next great tennis player and Osaka to inconsistency.

My boy lost to M. Raonic, too bad  Sad. Federer trying to close John Millman on the 4th set.
Federer advance to next round, interesting match I though Federer will lost from J. Millman but His experience prove that He not finish yet. Millman has a chance to beat Federer when He lead 4 point on tie break but the Federer can reach the next 6 points and win the match.

In the men's singles S. Tsitsipas vs M. Raonic. The match will be interesting because Raonic is one of the tennis players with fast serve, Tsitsipas is more favored to win this match because of his good performance.

Today starts the Australian Open, in Melbourne right now the weather doesn't look too good as there is rain around so it could delay some games on the outside courts. There doesn't seem to be much smoke around either which is a good thing for the players.

Glad to hear that there's not that much smoke around so that we can see the AO pushing through as schedule.

Like I mentioned in a previous post a few weeks ago, my money is on Federer to win but I do also like Stefanos Tsitsipas as the dark horse as he has shown that he plays well at the Australian Open and on hard courts which is why I also have a small bet on him to win.

Yes, Federer is still strong even at his age. I do hope he make it to the finals this year. Thanks mate, you know my boy Tsitsipas can pull some upsets here. Smiley

Yeah he sure can mate and that's why I really like him to at least reach the finals stage of the AO. I know a lot of people like Medvedev as the young gun to make it far but we can't count out Tsitsipas as he has proven at the Australian Open that he plays well and hard courts are where he plays his best tennis.

I also have a feeling that Kyrgios will go far this year as he has the whole of Australia behind him and that he wants to support the bush fires relief so I can see him going far in this tournament like we see so many times in sports. I just hope the smoke stays away which it might return today as Melbourne has a north wind right now and that's where the fires are still burning.

Gonna be interesting how Nick will fair this year. It looks like he has gain some fans specially in his small way to support the bush fire relief. He gain lot of respect from tennis fans around the world.

Nick won a hard fought match against Sonego.

Norrie vs P. H. Herbert is a 5 setter, LOL, I haven't seen a five setter on a the first round.

Lots of match today, I have to check to check the scores, I haven't seen any upset yet, except for Maria Sharapova? While Djokovic was pushed to a 4 setter by Struff.
Yes first round lots of match and in day 2 no surprising result so far, Nadal won with easy.

She will have Wozniacki though in the fourth round if I'm not mistaken.
This will be interesting match if happen, because wozniacki announce that this Grand Slam will be the last tournament she played.

And again Coco Gauff, the young tennis player who defeated Venus Williams in the Grand Slam US Open 2019, do same result in Australia Open.
Maybe Venus Williams should retire, she age almost 40 years.

She doesn't have the mentality of her sister + the age factor.

Serena won and easy Potapova 6-0, 6-3. Her form is good, next for here is Zidansek. I think she has a chance to reach the QF here, as the path or the draw is much easier, in my opinion. She will have Wozniacki though in the fourth round if I'm not mistaken.

She is too old already and I agree that V. Williams should retire at this age. I don't know why she is still competing when obviously he has lost many steps with this young girls in the tournament.

Right, I check the schedule, and it's officially open. I'm looking at Osaka to perform well in this year's Australian Open. Serena will have her first match against Potapova as she pursue her 24th grand slams so I'm giving her a chance here. Of course, we have Barty, the crowd favourite. So women side is also going to be entertaining as the men.

Women side as different though, Osaka was very inconsistent as the start of the year even losing her top spot. And with that said, it's hard to predict who's going to be on top, as I have said they are very inconsistent so perhaps we will see another name coming up in the womens side.

Yeah you are right the women's singles is difficult to predict. Serena still has ambition to continue to add a grand slam, she has 23 Grand Slam tittle so far one left behind the Margareth Court record which get 24 titles even though half of the Court won before the open era.

maybe Simona Halep is a good one, as odds are also very attractive.
Halep was unlucky when lose from Wozniacki in 2018 Final. If it wasn't by injury, Andreescu could also compete this year's, but she is not recovery yet.

Novak Djokovic is the clear favourite to bring home the trophy because of the strength of his ATP showing. But I like Roger Federer odds, but him and Djokovic is on the same draw if I'm not mistaken. So it will be tough for Roger in this year's AO.

I think the big 3 will still dominate the betting market, and who will be their good opponents there are some young players like Medvedev Stistipas Zverev.

Krygios is a good tennis player with best serve but he has a weakness in controlling emotions that is often the problem, but he cannot be underestimated.

How about Women' Singles?
Barty is favorite as a champion.

Women's side:

Serena Williams, Naomi Osaka and Ash Barty is the favorite in the women side.

Really hard to see who will emerge as the winner though, I'm looking at some dark horse here, maybe Simona Halep is a good one, as odds are also very attractive.

You're right, I think that the big 3 will continue to dominate unless one of them retire or something to let the young players close the gap like Thiem, Medvedev.

Krygios is a good tennis player with best service but he has a weakness in controlling emotions that is often the problem, but he cannot be underestimated.

That is a wasted talent right there, Nick is a good player but he can't rise to be an elite because he has that attitude. As you have said, it's a weakness of them that stop him from being in the discussions for the next great tennis player when the big 3 is gone for good.
