Novak Djokovic is the clear favourite to bring home the trophy because of the strength of his ATP showing. But I like Roger Federer odds, but him and Djokovic is on the same draw if I'm not mistaken. So it will be tough for Roger in this year's AO.

^^ ATP Cup was exciting to watch. Two of the best players, Djokovic vs Nadal fight it out for their respective countries, but Serbia come up on top. Djokovic partnered with Troicki  to seal the with for them. It was really a classic match between Djokovic vs Nadal, no one giving a edge, save break points, one will be down 0-40 and then comeback and take the set, it was really a thriller!!!.

The bigger thriller was Djokovic - Medvedev, a great match.
Nadal didn't seem to be physically fit, and he couldn't stand it.
I think Djokovic will break out into the first position soon, I feel he is the first candidate for that.
I am also looking Djokovic is going to ruined every one and this years title is also going with him just Medvedev is only who can give him some resistance but no other player right now capable to fight for this years title.

We still have Federer and Nadal here. Those two are not slowing down and I think they can still fight it out specially in Australian Open. Medvedev has a good 2019, so let us see if he can continue his ran and can make it to the top three this year.

Djokovic is strong, but who knows, maybe we can see others rising to the ranks again, like Medvedev last year. I do hope that Nick Kyrgios will do something very different in this year as well.

I wouldn't count out Nadal just yet as he has always looked this way when playing in these lead up tournaments before the Australian Open and then when he is playing in the Australian Open he looks a different player. I also give Federer a chance as well because he always seems to play well at the Australian Open so I wouldn't count him out. Now with Alex de Minaur ruled out of the Australian Open, its up to Kyrgios to carry Australia's hope of winning and I think he will be up for it even though he has said that his main focus is the bush fires right now but I think Australia will get behind him and he could do something special. Time will tell though as we all know what he is like.

@Kemarit I felt sad that Nadal lost the match because he put so much efforts in this game, but yet he couldn’t win it for his country. Djokovic on the other hand was absolutely brilliant and his determination to win was unbelievable though I like him, but I was secretly wishing he would loose the match but my wish didn’t come true and in the end he won the match.

Yes, we can see the Nadal was really putting a lot of effort, as I have said, it was a absolute thriller as no on wanted to loss in a match wherein you represent your country. I also thought that Nadal could win the match, but Djokovic dig down inside, and his shot making is brilliant. Just sad to see that someone like Nadal will be on the losing end.

Some AO official came out to the press and said that they are taking measures to ensure players health and that there is no way AO will be postponed.

Maybe most of the matches will be played inside on the days smoke gets particularly bad. If I am not mistaken they have 3 courts under roof.
Is this fire still on as I was reading after rain this all end and now all is under control because we have still few days left in AO I am looking for this as its very long time we have no good tennis.

@Trofo Australia Open is not getting postponed yet and playing indoors is definitely a option for the organisers, but I feel at some stage they’ll postpone it because conditions are looking very bad out there and players health is starting to get effected. @BitSat19 yea rains have made it slightly better, but overall conditions are yet bad hence we will have to wait patiently and see what the organisers decide.

Its not all that bad in Melbourne now as I live in Melbourne and the air quality is getting better as long as the winds stay southerly. The fires in the state are more towards the north east now so the smoke isn't as bad. Melbourne park has indoor stadiums which they can play in however not all can play in them unless they maybe add an extra week. That's if the smoke gets bad for the players.

What do you guys think of the ATP Cup so far? I think its been great so far and looks to be a success as the players seem to like it.

^^ Good. I think it's time to sleep late so that I can watch those matches. Obviously, because of the time difference, usually it's late here when I have to watch the game live. Anyways, there's a lot of interesting match to watch here. Glad that Australians won, and it's sad to see Nick shredding tears after Australia won because of the current state of emergency (fire) in his country.

Yeah it was a great win for Australia and I know how it is as I live in one of the states that is affected by the bush fires so I understand how Nick is feeling as its a bad time for Australia right now. Hopefully Australia winning helps brightens up the country as we need this right now.

Right, this got me thinking though, if the fire continues, will it affect the Australian Open this year?

Health wise is it not good for the players as well as the tennis fans. I really do hope that this bush fires or at least there will be some rain to help the fire fighters stop this blaze.
According to Denis Kudla who was practicing in Melbourne, it is likely the Australian Open will be canceled.

Interviewed by the New York Times, the American player Denis Kudla who stayed a week in Melbourne before leaving for the challenger in Bendigo made a rather catastrophic assessment of the situation: "In my opinion, we have never been that close to '' cancel a Grand Slam tournament. And making the decision to play it will be difficult. Because very clearly if the smoke gets worse, I could not imagine playing a game of four, five hours and not coughing like crazy afterwards. Furthermore, what consequences can it get on our health for playing in a sky covered with smoke? Nobody knows, but it can't be good that's for sure "

Aw, that will be bad if they are going to cancel this years Grand Slam.

However, we truly understand it, the health of everyone here is a concern and we don't want anyone to get sick or what just because of watching tennis or even for players themselves. It is really catastrophic and the only thing we can do is wish that it will end the soonest.

@ Juggy777 - Yes, Australians, with their home court advantage, really push the game against the Germans. Everyone is cheering for them, even Nick Kyrgios get the love from the crowd and was really emotional.

@vella85 - hey mate, I do hope that you're doing ok there.

@Yaunfitda  - I think Djokovic already raise that issue with the organizers but I speculate that it will be a day-to-day basis. I do hope that the Australian Open are going to push through without any hiccups because of the crazy bush fires that has been ravaging Australia right now.

And the run continues:

Australia 3 vs Canada 0

John Millman (AUS) defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime (CAN) 6-4 6-2

Alex de Minaur (AUS) defeated Denis Shapovalov (CAN) 6-7 6-4 6-2

C. Guccione/J. Peers (AUS) defeated F. Auger-Aliassime/D. Shapovalov (CAN) 3-6 7-6 10-8

Take note that Nick Kyrgios  is out because of injury.

Hello my friend, yes I'm doing fine thank you for asking. Its just the smoke that is hard to bare right now and I'm not sure if the Australian Open will go ahead as scheduled. Some players have even said that they are happy if the AO is pushed back a couple of weeks and hopefully by then the smoke would clear and most of the fires are out but right now that is looking unlikely so I just don't know what will happen right now with the AO.

ATP cup is on, Australia sweeps Germany in the opening day;

Quote
Australia enjoyed a clean sweep of Germany on the opening day of the ATP Cup, finishing 3-0.

Alex de Minaur and Nick Kyrgios lead the way and had fans on their feet when they finished off their matches victorious.

Aussie doubles partners Chris Guccione and John Peers were successful in their event, taking down Kevin Krawietz Andreas Mies 6-3 6-4.

Alexander Zverev crumbled at the hands of De Minaur to secure Australia victory in their ATP Cup opener in Brisbane.

World No.18 de Minaur showed trademark grit to hang with Germany's world No.7 in the early stages, before swamping him in a 4-6 7-6 (7-3) 6-2 win.

It followed a comprehensive Nick Kyrgios victory, 6-4 7-6 (7-4) over Jan-Lennard Struff, that set up an unbeatable 2-0 lead ahead of the final doubles clash on Friday night.

So the tennis season has open up, It looks like Australia is on a good start here. This is going to be an interesting tournament as most of the top ten players are going to represent their country here.

@Kemarit of all the matches that were played yesterday the best match was played between De Minaur and Alexander Zverev and the way Minaur tormented Zverev during the match was absolutely stunning to watch. It’s pertinent to note that Minaur remained focused and determined to win, while Zverev lost his focus and smashed his racket and then he ended up loosing the match.
