Nadal taking the first set 7-5 and it looks like he is also going to win the second set. Medvedev gave everything he got on the first set and now Nadal looks very strong so I don't think that we are going to see Medvedev winning here, sorry for all Medvedev fans here.

Yeah I'm watching the match right now and it looks like Medvedev is no match for Nadal as Nadal won the first two sets and the third set just started. Medvedev can turn the match around but it will be tough playing one of the best players of all time and normally when Nadal is in this form he is very hard to beat.

Yes, Medvedev was two sets down, but he fought back and even save match point. However, Nadal can't be deny, the guy doesn't want to lose. If Medvedev could have made the first two games 1-1, he could have a chance against Nadal. But no ashame though, he gave everything but Nadal was too strong mentally here. I believed that he can still won another Grand Slam in the next year or two and surpass Roger Federer's record.

To be fair with Medvedev, I thought that it is going to be over in the next set and Nadal could win the 3rd set as well. But Medvedev shows what other young tennis player didn't show when they face champions like Nadal, he didn't melt under the pressure and gave us fans a good showing and come back from 0-2 deficit to tie and go for the juggler in 5th set.

It was just short, Nadal is a veteran and experienced player and this is the difference here. Kudos to Nadal, but watch out for Medvedev coming up in the ranks.

@vella85 Nadal won the tournament and I had predicted that he would be winning it in the other thread, honestly I was surprised to see that so many people here thought that Medvedev could beat Nadal. Though I have to admit Medvedev did play much better than I had anticipated, but then he was up against a spirited Nadal who wasn’t going to accept defeat. With this victory Nadal is one grand slam away from Federer record, do you’ll think he’ll be able to surpass Federer’s record?.

Wow what a match and medvedev did make a game of it while nadal took the first two sets and the game did look to be all his. Even in the last fifth set he just couldnt shake him off and it got to 5-4 before taking him out in exciting fashion.
Which thread did you predict nadal was going to win the tournament?
I think he has enough gas left in the tank to challenge federer's record because it is just one more grand slam to go. Easy for nadal if he keeps fit cause he doesnt have ankle problems like murray. Grin

Nadal 33 years old if he can play 2 or 3 years more, I think that possible He can surpass Federer's record, but with note that Federer can't win even one grand slam single title anymore. The most frightening for athletes is injury because injury can change everythings we can see many tennis athteles take a long rest due to injury e.g. Juan Martin Del Potro, Andy Murray. If Nadal gett injury or choose to retire faster then that is difficult to achieve.

That's true, Nadal has suffered a lot of injuries but has endured and continued to play until now, what is great for world tennis.
Federer clearly has no more physical strength for long and exhausting matches so I believe Nadal will reach him already in Roland Garros.
Both can be surpassed by Djokovic if he stays healthy and fully focused on tennis.
After this match, it seems to me that when all three of them retire to tennis, Medvedev will become their natural heir.

Nadal was playing in top form the entire year and only exhaustion could take the match away from him and even i expected an upset when the match continued to third and fourth set where he lost but he came back and proved once again that he is the greatest and he will be in contention for the player of the year alongside Novak Djokovic as both won two Grand Slam this year. Great for tennis fan as we witness greatness from Nadal, Djokovic and Federer and they are playing in the same era.

The game has started, with Andreescu leading 4-2 already. So let's just wait and history are going to be unfold today.

Andrescu is new US open champion, she won in two sets. I thought Serena will turn it over after she managed to get back from 5:1 down to 5:5 in second set but Andrescu kept it tight and won. Big congrats, it is not easy to finish the match after loosing 5:1 lead and against Serena.

I'm so happy to see Andrescu win the US Open as she really deserved to win playing a great tournament. She is the first Canadian to win a Grand Slam title, Serena once again fails to win the US Open playing against the young talent. Now we can look forward to the Nadal and Medvedev match tomorrow.

Yes, finally it's a break out win for Andrescu and she really deserves to win this years US Open. It was not easy to fight Williams in the finals and I thought that it will be extended as she climb back. But Andrescu hold her ground and didn't let that slip up and focus on the closing Serena. She was denied here and it seems that Serena was really frustrated at herself. So let's see Nadal vs Medvedev as it will start in a few minutes and enjoy the game.

^^ Wow, Medvedev just steamrolled Dmitrov here, I though this could end in five sets. But Medvedev was really in control of this match and didn't give Dmitrov any breathing room. I guess we are correct in jumping on the Medvedev bandwagon, LOL. Nadal's turn to do his part so that we can see a clash of youth vs experience in this years Final.
We might as see changing of the guards here if Medvedev is going to win the US open. Though Nadal still proves that he still got it. But I think Medvedev has a good chance and opportunity to get the title.

Bianca Andreescu could be the next poster girl for this years US Open. Let's see how she does against the aging but still competitive Serena here.
If I'm not mistaken, Serena's coach said that Andreescu could be the next number one player. So let's see if she can live to the hype.

Certainly, If Medvedev can win the US Open, then it could be a signal that someone is already knocking on the door and it could very well be a signal that either of the big three will think of retirement already. Serena is 38 years old as well, this could also her last chance to win his 10th title. The game has started, with Andreescu leading 4-2 already. So let's just wait and history are going to be unfold today.

I watched the Federer match up to the start of the 4th set as I had to go out and do some things. At the time I thought that Federer had the match won but when I got back home I saw that he lost. Like I said in a previous post, Dimitrov has been playing some good tennis this tournament and it wouldn't surprise me to see him win which he did and it was his first win over Federer which made it even more special for him. The question is now, will Federer retire while he is still at the top or will he go on one more year which could see him drop down the rankings, it will be a tough decision for him at the end of the year.

Same here, I thought that Federer got this one, however, Dmitrov was having a good tennis in the 5th five and took the lead and it was too late before Federer got some answers. I hope we was able to tie it but Dmitrov was responding to the pressure.

Now we have one veteran left in Nadal with all the up and comers around him as Matteo Berrettini just won his match against Monfils in a five set epic.

Monfils vs Berrettini was a classic five set match. I got a feeling that we will see someone new raising the trophy this year. But Nadal is just too good or just got a lucky draw that's why he is still the last man standing amongst the big 3.

Yeah Nadal and Dmitrov are the last two of the older players, I just wonder could we see a final between the two young talent? Matteo Berrettini has had a good tournament however he hasn't played anyone who was seeded where as Medvedev has so Nadal will be a big test for Berrettini and we'll see how good he is when playing a top player. Its going to be an interesting end to this years US Open, even on the Women's side.

Yes, who would have thought that this year's US Open will be like this? Medvedev vs Dmitrov has just started the first set, just some feeling the moments now,  2-2 but I'm sure this will turn out to be exciting and I"m looking for a five set thriller. I think Nadal will be the favorite over Berrettini here, Rafa is also playing superb and as least still not push to his limits in this tournament and has a lot of gas in his tank.

It's gonna be Serena vs Bianca Andreescu on the womens side for the title for this year.

I'm watching the Medvedev and Dmitrov match now and its looking like Medvedev is in complete control winning the first two sets and leading in the third set 2-1 currently. So I'm guessing that it will be a Medvedev and Nadal final which if it becomes a reality will be a great match to see.

On the Women's side I am going for the young talent and under dog Bianca Andreescu to upset Serena.

Nadal play very good and now just Medvedev has ability to stop him from being a champion no other players can stop him but I am feeling Medvedev is also not good enough but we will watch some very good and exciting matches as we have some very good and talented players in both Semi Finals Berrettini was really good against Monfils and deserve this win.
