I just read article about Nadal in local newspaper which shortly referenced that Nadal will be playing Madrid next weak and they wrote that Federer will be in the Madrid as well. If that is true and not some sort of typo/mistake then I have been wrong and Federer will surly play French open.

Thanks for the update man, but it looks like the competition is tough with Nadal, Djokovic, Zverev and Dominic Thiem on the line. And just imagine if Federer was able to win this tournament and steam roll those players or at least some of them, then the whole French Open landscape will change.

Its strange how Federer isn't as good on clay as he is on other surfaces as I believe he grew up playing on clay courts. The main reason why he doesn't play on clay anymore is because his fitness coach has said that clay is the surface that caused his back the most trouble in recent years so they were avoiding it to protect his body.

Well I think it would be the right thing to do if it is his last year playing tennis. Federer has a big following in France and it would be nice to see him farewell the French people if it is his last year. Then again he could go on next year as he does look in good shape evening winning a tournament this year so we just never know what he will do, the sports books have him at around $21 to win the French Open so do they know something that we don't?

Yes, I totally agree, so it is still a puzzle for us tennis fans to wait and see if he is really going this year and chase the French Open. Probably those sport bookies know a thing or two, Grin

. It really doesn't make sense for him to skip this year though, as fans are really waiting for him to comeback on French and it will be thrilling for fans to see his again.

I still haven't read any news coming from Federer if he will enter the French Open this year. He has been skipping the tournament for the last 2 years, I think (correct me If I'm wrong). So most likely he will do the same this year (my speculation). But as you have said, if this is Roger's final year in tennis, then I guess he should play so that we can witnessed him chase another Grand slam. Gonna be interesting what's his decision.

Yes he is the only one to be able to beat Nadal on clay however we saw him do the exact same thing this time last year in these tournaments before the French Open. Then once they both met each other in the final of the French Open, Nadal dominated Thiem so this is where he needs to do some work on in Grand Slams. If Thiem can get it right in Grand Slams then we could see another Nadal winning multiple French Open titles.

Although Nadal told few good things about himself after the loss like his confidence is back and stuff , still feels bad to see him lose in his tournament. Would have loved to see him lift the trophy.

There’s no news yet about Federer participating in the French open, and I don’t think he wants to partipate either. In my opinion he should keep himself fit for Wimbledon, as his chances of winning the French open are very less due to the presence of Nadal and Djokovic. Thiem has the makings of a great player but you’re wrong he won’t beat Nadal especially on clay, however it’ll be an entertaining match for sure.

Yes I understand that Federer should just get him self ready for Wimbledon however if this is his last year of tennis then we would think that he would want to play at all the Grand Slams to say his goodbye to the fans. Anyway lets see what he decides to do as it might not be his last year.

Once again Thiem has beaten Nadal in the semi-final of the Barcelona Open and it was in straight sets. I'm glad that I put money on Thiem to win the French Open just like I did last year at around this time. I didn't get the same odds as last year at over $30 -1 but I did get on this year when he was at $11 and now he is in to around $6 with most sportsbooks to win the French Open.

Well he has already beaten Nadal on clay twice. Both times in straight sets. I believe last year in Madrid and Rome. As I said he is the only player which can beat Nadal on clay when they are both playing 100%. Problem is Thiem still doesn't have a constant and often makes too much unforced errors. If he starts making those against Nadal he will lose in under an hour.

Edit: Great win for Thiem and nice profit for me backing him to win in straight sets @6.5. Didn't see the whole match but parts I managed to see were full of great points.

And now the second seed has fallen as well, Krajinović defeated Coric, 6-4, 7-5, and book himself a SF seat. He was down 4-2 in the first set, fought back, save 3 set points.

Looks like Cuevas run will end tonight in the hands of Berrettini, 3-6, 6-4 and he is currently down 5-2. Let's see if he can have a second wind and win the third set.
