Ortiz is a good contender but his best fights have been at lightweight. If he couldn't defeat Loma then I don't see how he can beat Teofimo in a higher weight class. We've seen Teo struggle against average fighters but maybe the win against Josh Taylor will give him the confidence he had been lacking in previous fights. This should be a nice showcase during Super Bowl week in Las Vegas. There will be lots of attention on this fight and if he wins Teofimo's next fight could be a PPV against Matias in New York.

He only had one lose against George Kambosos Jr, the boxer that was schooled by Devin Haney two times. Teo had a statement that he was not anymore comfortable on that weight os he moved up and he proved his excuse was true. Beating Josh Taylor who's also a champion, that would say a lot about the skills of Teo, and as long as he is very confident in the division he's holding now, I doubt a challenger who failed against Loma has a chance of upsetting him.

What we are seeing on Teo now is a more matured and smarter boxer. His loss to Kambosos was a wake up call that he cannot be too cocky all the time and underestimate his opponent.

If we watch again the fight, we will see that Teo aren't playing defense and was just trying to look for a one punch KO, but it's unfortunate for him as Kambosos wasn't playing around, he was too focus with his counterpunches that hurt Teo although Teo survived in the fight. That mistake will never happen again.

Lopez may be a favorite in this fight but Ortiz can deliver a huge upset if Lopez comes out easy in this fight like he did against Sandor Martin, Ortiz has matured after his fight against Loma.
Lopez has a history of undermining his opponents he has done this two times already against Kambosos and then against Sandor and Ortiz is a better fighter than Sandor if we are talking about fight comparison with Lomachenko.
Lopez when he fought Loma, Loma had a shoulder injury, while Ortiz when he fought Loma was 100% in perfect condition, so the comparison will not add up.

Let's see, I also consider this as a tough fight for Lopez specially that Ortiz is no longer has to squeeze his body to 135 lbs as he is moving to 140 lbs. The only problem with Ortiz is that he usually faded in the later rounds but maybe it was due to him really having a hard time making 135. So him moving might do more good on him.

So Teo shouldn't underestimate Ortiz here, as this two has history in the amateur Lopez beat Ortiz in the National Golden Gloves Quarterfinal way back 2015.

Maybe this is payback for Ortiz, or Teo retaining his belt in a hard fight. And most likely Teo Lopez will be the favorite here, maybe Ortiz 3:1 underdog (I haven't check crypto sports bookies yet).

Ortiz gave Loma a problem, because of his height and probably that Ortiz is really big, but fortunately, Loma was able to overcome him. I think Lopez shouldn't underestimate Ortiz, he has the power and if he caught Lopez by chance, then he could pull a upset.

But barring those, I think Lopez can win in a hard fight, maybe this fight will go to distance and going into the judges scorecard.

And if there are close rounds, we all know that judges usually gave it to the champions so maybe UD for Lopez but very close in the cards, maybe 8-4 rounds at least for Lopez.

This is a very risky fight for Teofimo Lopez, Ortiz gave Lomachenko a tough fight when they fought and He's going to give Lopez a much tougher fight, Ortiz is a guy who doesn't back up and has powers on both hands and can deliver lethal body shots, we all know Lopez

Teofimo definitely knows what he is doing.

you say Ortiz is a tough opponent of Lopez but the former losses to Loma via Unanimous decision, I didn't see the struggle there from Loma. Remember that Teo beat Loma, so I think Teo here is the one who should dictate this fight.

I'm not sure if there's an official betting odds yet for this fight, but according to https://www.oddschecker.com/boxing/teofimo-lopez-v-jamaine-ortiz/winner

Teo is a heavy favorite with -500 odds.

Ortiz though lost against Lomaa still is a high risk against Lopez. He wouldn't be matched with Loma if he hadn't got what it takes but this fight has low rewards for Teo.
Ortiz made a good performance with Loma, he isn't such a weak fighter. But it would have been better if Teo took Matias unification. This isn't even mandatory for Teo.

This is still a good fight to watch. Teo is someone to watch out as this is the peak of his career.

Ortiz was matched against Loma not because he is a tougher opponent for him, he was match because they know that Loma can beat him. So the same case here with Top Rank picking up a fighter that has been beaten to be a get busy fight for Lopez.

We thought that Lopez wanted to fight Matias for the IBF belt, but that is a big risk for his team.

And so they settled against someone that Loma has beaten already. Very careful match making in the part of Top Rank and not risking their 140 lbs champion.

It's now final, Teofimo Lopez Vs. Jamaine Ortiz will square off for the WBO Welterweight Title on February 8

If Ortiz doesn’t fade like he tends to do, Teofimo could be in a lot of trouble in this fight and might need help from the judges, as we saw in his fight with Sandor Martin. Ortiz is one of those guys that looks huge after he rehydrates. Jamaine isn’t on the level of a Devin Haney, where he’ll rehydrate 25 lbs to 165 lbs and come in as a super middleweight, but he’ll likely have a size advantage over Teofimo on fight night.
