Ortiz is going to lose big fights promotion because Arum was so disappointed in this fight

Quote
“It was really terrible,” Arum told BoxingScene.com. “I mean, we didn’t know this would happen. We’ve had [Ortiz] fight some big fights for us and he was always very competitive, a good warrior. This wasn’t a fight. He was running around the ring. That isn’t boxing. I don’t know how the officials scored it as close as they did. At most, I gave [Ortiz] two rounds, maybe three rounds. But people are paying good money to watch good athletic competition, and this was disgraceful.”

Bob Arum: Jamaine Ortiz Was Running Around The Ring; That Isn’t Boxing; This Was Disgraceful

As a boxing promoter who has seen thousands of fights he doesn't want to see a boring fight with a fighter who refuses to engage, he is right in saying that the boxing community paid money to see actions, not a boxer who runs around the ring, the boxing community has been shortchanged by this fight.
Honestly, it was a boring fight I preferred to play mine game I was more excited to play that game than watch Ortiz run all night.
I don't know if I will watch Jermaine Ortiz again it's not worth my time and I'm sure many of us will not.

I like Ryan for him, he is still the champion so Ryan will have to challenge him. he deserve a big fight and with Ryan, it will be a sure blockbuster fight, so hopefully it will happen this year, probably in the 2nd half of the year.

That's to ensure that the fight will not be boring. Ryan has a height advantage on Lopez IMO but they are a good match. This fight, based on the bookmakers, Lopez was the heavy favorite, but maybe if Ryan and him will face each other, it will be a close match making only Lopez a slight favorite.

I can't wait to see it, I hope people will ask for it and the two will agree so they can finalize it as soon as possible.

Both Lopez and Ryan Garcia are full of pride and have too much ego it's going to be tough doing a deal on both of them they will be issues on the share of the pot PPV sales and who will top bill the match, but it's a good fight to make for promoters, it will be like Davis - Garcia where there's a lot of dramas and controversy involve.
Ryan needs to have a title all the best fighters have earned their titles like Hanry, Davis, Romero, and Lopez, he is the only popular fighter without a title, the title Instagram king is not very attractive for a fighter of Garcia's caliber.
It's up to Teofimo to decide who he wants to fight but a unification or fighting a top-level fighter is good for his career and legacy.

Look like Ryan Garcia has an upcoming fight, a big fight.

There's a thread that you can find here https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/devin-haney-and-ryan-garcia-april-20-wbc-junior-welterweight-title-5484623... It's the thread of Ryan Garcia vs Devin Haney. That's going to be an exciting fight to watch as Ryan now have slowly learn the technique on how to be a defensive fight, he use that style on his last fight where he scored a KO.

Jamaine Ortiz just could not hurt Lopez, well, we can't blame him though, his KO rate is very low, that's why.

If you look at the match he's not trying to knock out Lopez, he's just to connect and run, the match is so boring that Lopez complaints after one of the rounds that Ortiz did not want to fight, and the unanimous decision in favor of Lopez is a good decision, but the panel scorecard have it a draw surprisingly.
If you want to win the title you have to go for it, as a challenger you must challenge the champion and go toe-to-toe something that Ortiz failed to do, he's not goign to be a great champion if he only runs and does not engage, there's a lot of boing on that fight because of Ortiz.
Ortiz will have a hard time selling his next fight

He did not take the risk of getting himself open as he probably felt that he cannot withstand the power of Lopez. He was just hitting Lopez for points purpose, but not enough to prevent the champion from being aggressive. A fighter would only change his style if he is inferior in the fight, and we've seen that on Ortiz in that fight, so that fight was like a mismatch, a waste of hard earned money  for those who availed the PPV and pay for the tickets.

Lopez needs to fight a good fighter in his next fight, not someone who just employs a hit-and-run tactic and Ryan could give him that, or SubrieL Matias who is a pressure fighter, that's the fight worth watching.

This is a rumor, that means people wants to see the fight to happen. Enough for Lopez fighting a non caliber boxer, he should go for a good caliber boxer like Ryan Garcia and has an appeal to the public, as that's the recipe for a successful fight. Entertain the crowd and they'll make good money, I think Lopez wouldn't let this opportunity pass if it will come on his door.

How could he hurt a boxer if doesn't throw solid punches? I get this strategy, he just want to hit and run (score), but he isn't as quick as the well known hit and run boxer like Mayweather and Haney, so his strategy was not effective and the decision was fair.

I don't know but it seems that Teo is very emotional boxer and he just shows his emotion after that fight. Perhaps it was his mentality going to the fight or he thinks he was lucky enough to get the judges decision and he should knock Ortiz out and not go to the judges scorecard.

Ortiz went as high as 7:1 underdog here so very hard to see him winning and pull that upset.

So Lopez retain his belt and obviously should look for money fight next, Ryan Garcia could be a good fight for both of them as both are stars and so there will be big PPV numbers I reckon.
Lopez deserves the win if you're a challenger you should be the one to chase the champion and try to take away the title from the champion, unfortunately, Ortiz employed a safe path hoping that his hit-and-run tactic would work, but the judges favored Lopez who dare Ortiz to engage but all through the fight he just want to play cat and mouse, anyway if he will engage Lopez he knows he's going to get knocked out by Lopez.

LOL, Listen about Teo Lopez on Subriel Matias,

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/utYGTKY5g4M

I think this could be a good storyboard for this fight, Lopez calling Matias, one dimensional fighter, softest fighter in the division.

So tell Arum to negotiate and fight him and annexed his IBF this year Teo. And yeah, style makes fight so this is going to be a good fight indeed. But it seems that Teo is full of confidence here.

Very frustrating on the part of the champion and he wants to give the fans a very entertaining fight. Unfortunately, the challenger didn't come to fight but just to survive, and I like how the judges saw the fight, they gave it to the defending champion because Ortiz  is not deserving to become a champion, it will be added to another boring champion in the history of boxing, so no.

Thanks bro, great timing. the 2nd round has just finished and thus far they are still adjusting. This Jamaine Ortiz is quite slick, he moved a lot and doesn't go toe to toe battle with Lopez, so there's a huge chance that we might not see a KO here, rather the fight will end via decision.

Edit : people seemed not enjoying the action as Ortiz  became like Mayweather, he is so defensive here.

I hope Lopez won't get too frustrated... Grin

You're welcome bro.

Lopez did win the fight with not much engagement as Ortiz was disciplined enough to stick to their game plan. Though i agree with the judges to give the fight to Lopez but he should have done more on cutting the gap between them, you just could not stand there and expect your opponent to come and hit you, this is boxing, hit and don't get hit lol.

117-111, 115-113 (2X), were the scores of the judges for Lopez.

He was really frustrated but good thing he won the fight. I don't know why he was emotional after he was announce as the winner, I think he wasn't sure that he will win the fight because he was always saying that Ortiz  didn't come to fight. It was a boring fight, we didn't see a real entertainment and it seems like Ortiz understands he will be KO if he choose to go toe to toe with the champion. Hopefully next time Lopez would be able to find an opponent that would really accept his challenge so they will not be boo'd by the fans.

I'm just going to throw peanuts for Ortiz by UD because I have some gut feeling this is gonna be an upset and then I'm more confident in Ortiz.

Because Teo had not KO Loma, he may not be able to KO Ortiz as well, Jamaine Ortiz is not named The Technician for nothing. He also survived against Loma without getting knocked out. It's all just my hunch, I didn't get rich with my gut feeling but I certainly won some of my bets because of it.

Why not mate? he is a huge underdog and odd makers didn't respecdt that Ortiz survived against Loma and even give Loma a good fight. Ortiz also has a underrated footwork that might gave Teo problems early.

And if he was not able to solved that, they maybe it's going to be a very close fight for Teo and he has to rally late like what Loma did against Ortiz. But we all know that Lopez is not known to be a technical boxer, he just loves to brawl and this could be a wrong style for him against Ortiz.

Unfortunately, there's no brawl here, Ortiz was just in survival mode the way I see it throughout the fight. He will just swing and then try to fight outside by Lopez was wise enough to counter him all night with right hand.

So as per the judges, it went to distance but it's no close fight and the winner is still the champion in Teo Lopez.

If Teo thinks Matias is easy then go for him and get his belt.

I will be more interested on Keyshawn Davis, he could be the next big star for boxing here. And yeah maybe in the future he will call out Teo at 140 lbs. Keyshawn though has a lot in his plate at Lightweight, all roads lead to Tank Davis or Shakur Stevenson.

That will be the biggest fight at 135 lbs, but let's see if he is just hype or really the next big thing for us.

So it's better to see if he can live to the noise behind his name, at least we will know what the future will be at Lightweight with Keyshawn.

As I have said, the fight that I wanted to see is Keyshawn Davis and he didn't disappoint his fans as he completely dominated Pedraza and the referee had to stop the fight and Pedraza is no match for Keyshawn. He just tee off right from round 1, with that huge body shots after body shots and Pedraza was soften right after round 3.

So who will be the next for Davis, maybe he needs a couple of fights before he can go and look for Shakur or Tank Davis.

Prospect is there for him, but for me, needed more to test himself before chasing for the belts.

Yes, no fanfare in this fight, Ortiz becoming a south paw but it was not that effective against Teo. Lopez is the quicker of the two and I will say that it has power behind those peek-a-boo style of him. And it might have that Ortiz felt the power that's why he just try to run circles and then throw couple of punch and then hug that's why the fans didn't like what they see in the fight. But it is still a win for Lopez here, I haven't seen the post fight interview, but maybe a reunification fight with other champion. He also say that Matias is the easiest fight for him for all those champions, so we will see.

@FinneysTrueVision - Do you agree that Matias is the weakest of the champion in that division?

That is according to Teo, actually he said all Puerto Rican fighters are easy fights.

Teofimo was very lackluster but managed to edge out a decision. Jamaine Ortiz had a new Cuban trainer and his style tonight reminded me of Rigondeaux and Erislandy Lara because of how boring that performance was. Running around might have frustrated Teo but what was lacking for Ortiz was some offense. Teo also didn't do much but he finished the fight a little stronger and I had him winning those final two rounds, which made the difference on the scorecards.

If Teofimo struggled this much against Ortiz, it's going to be much worse against someone like Devin Haney. Teo called out Crawford but that is a fight he would lose badly. He should instead focus on somebody like Subriel Matias, whose aggressive style is a much better matchup. Even though there's a lot of risk, it will be a fan friendly fight that can elevate Teo's stock after some inconsistent and sometimes disappointing performances.

I like Teofimo's reaction to their faceoff he is more relaxed and calculated gone are the days where he resorted to cheap thrash talk like he did with Kambosos he learned a lot from that fight.
I agree that this should be an easy assignment for Teofimo before heading for big fights maybe after this fight he will go for a unification title, and fight either Haney or Matias, Teofimo is ambitious the three champions in that weight divisions are all undefeated so its better that after this fight Lopez negotiate for a title unification

~snip~
Both of them are boxers who can be said to have had good careers but their records cannot really be undefeated fighters, both of them had quite sensational fights but I failed to get the win.
Lopez had to accept quite disappointing defeat against George Kambosos and this defeat made him lose his dream of winning the title, as did Ortiz, who was defeated by Vasiliy Lomachenko.
But in the fight for the WBO title at the Michelob Ultra Arena, it was Lopez biggest achievement because he managed to defend his WBO welterweight title for the first time, he looked so happy with a glowing face and teary eyes.
Lopez looks like he can't believe the victory he achieved and of course this is big victory for Lopez.

This is the second big win for Lopez because he previously won the title by defeating former undisputed king Josh Taylor.
Congratulations to Teofimo Lopez who managed to win and retain his WBO title.
