So far in the second session, India has scored 44 runs in just 7 overs, at a rate of 6.3 runs per over. Both the South African bowlers look wayward (Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada). This is what I was expecting. South Africa lost whatever slight chance they had, when they lost the toss. Now India is going to build another huge total and the Proteas should be happy if they manage to avoid another innings defeat.
The problem lies with the captain as he is not rotating the bowlers well, he should have attacked the Indian players but instead he lost the early advantage they got, looks like he is clueless on how to restrict the runs flow and to create pressure even after getting early breakthroughs which is pathetic, the Indian players are batting as if they are playing ODI, weather stopped play if not they would have posted 300 runs today  Cheesy.

The match is stopped due to bad light and it is really strange as we usually do not see these kind of stoppage in India, the official report is that there is a huge dark cloud above the stadium and still 32 overs left in the day and it is hard to tell whether they will continue the match today. India recovered really well from their early blows and Rohit scored another century and i was expecting Rahane to complete the century today and if the match resumes the pitch might behave differently and can swing in the morning.

They could have done it when India were  3-39 and if they applied more pressure, there was a chance that they could penetrate in the Indian batting line up, but this did not happen. South Africa has the chance but luck did not favor them. India recovered well and once again they are looking to dominate the match.
The pitch was swinging in the morning session and hence the South African fast bowlers were able to pick early wickets and trouble the batsman but now that there is no help from the pitch and the frustration started for the South African bowlers as the Indian batsman is scoring freely and Rohit Sharma scored another century and if he could perform the same in foreign pitches as an opener then the quest for an opener will be over for the time being.

South Africa to need to increase their scope to get more wickets and probably rap up the Indian innings by day end today. India have move to 128 runs with still 3 wickets down and if South Africa does not take up wickets now, the early advantage can slip away from them. Both Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane looking comfortable and set now.
To wrap India before the end of the day is highly unlikely as they have two set batsman in the crease and if they are able to pick wickets then they can put pressure and wrap up the game but it is highly unlikely as the batting order is too deep to irritate and frustrate the South African bowlers and even now the fast bowlers are tired and spraying the ball without any line and length and it is easy for the batsman to score runs freely.

After lunch there is a scope for South Africa to pick another wicket  Cheesy.

The current partnership between Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma has crossed the 100 run mark and they look all set to guide India towards another big total. It looks like South Africa has wasted a golden opportunity here. They had India at the backfoot when they took three early wickets, but then they let go that advantage by giving too much room for Rahane/Sharma.

And the ease at which these two men are scoring runs surprises me. So far in this session, they have scored 76 runs from 15 overs, at a rate of 5.1 runs per over. And this is despite the fact that Kohli, Pujara and Mayank all getting out in the first session. The South Africans are not even putting up a fight. We are heading towards a meek surrender here at Ranchi.

This is the strength of the Indian batting lineup(They have so many batsmen down the order ready to perform when the team desperately needs them) and this is one of the primary reasons why they are ranked as the number 1 test team currently.

I am expecting India to reach 350 at this pace which would be a great target for South Africa. Rabada once again is the only bowler that impressed me. South Africa desperately needs more bowlers to perform for them currently.

They revived the game from 39/3 and they are nearing 200 now. Rohit is hitting 4s to let the runs keep coming but he shouldn't be hurrying as if his wicket goes, the total score would not even reach 250 as Kohil's also gone. SA look in full attacking mode today.

Ndigi and Linde are bowling badly as Rohit can easily make 4s (already 13 of them).

Rahane is treating the bowlers with disdain and his strike rate stands at more than 90 now. He is dominating the partnership, overshadowing the in form Rohit Sharma. I am wondering why the South African captain is taking so much time in bringing spin to the attack. As per the indications, the pitch at Ranchi offers a lot of assistance to the spinners.

The LBW verdict against Kohli was very surprising. The ball was just grazing the wicket and ideally the umpire should have given it as a not out.
There is nothing surprising here as the on field umpire gave the decision and Kohli went for the review and according to the rule if the review shows that the ball graces any part of the wicket then it will be given out, i am not telling that the DRS is perfect as i have seen many decisions going in the favor of batsman even though it was hitting the wicket and the ball tracking is objective in my opinion, the main advantage is to avoid blunders from on field umpires and it was a normal occurrence in the past.

LOL.. the Indian batting lineup is too strong to be troubled by the fall of one or two wickets. Virat Kohli is batting with Rohit Sharma now, and they should be able to steady the innings. India is having a very deep batting order, with Jadeja, Saha, Jadeja and Ashwin yet to come. All these are good batsmen and it is going to be a tough task for the inexperienced South African bowlers to contain them.
The star batsman Kohli is also gone and if the South African bowlers can somehow take the wicket of Rohit Sharma then India will be in real trouble here, if no Rohit has the skills to score a big century which will take the game away from them, i hope they attack them and take a few more wickets and one more wicket here and India will be under immense pressure, i know they have a long tail but i am happy to see South Africa putting some pressure on the Indian batsman. Wink

The LBW verdict against Kohli was very surprising. The ball was just grazing the wicket and ideally the umpire should have given it as a not out. Anyway I don't think that India needs to worry much, as their batting lineup is quite solid. Also, I think that during the initial session, the pacers were able to get some advantage from the pitch (especially Rabada and Nortje). This will not be the case for the next two sessions.

Out of the total of 23 overs bowled during the first session, only one over was bowled by a spinner. Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane is at the crease now, and they should be able to put things in order during the post-lunch session. South Africa don't have Keshav Maharaj and they dropped Senuran Muthusamy. Let me see how they deal with the Indian batsmen.

71/3 Grin Proteas is in good position but i agree still good amount of batting left. if SA let slip Indians from this stage then no comment...
There is no doubt that South Africa got the best start in this tournament but India does have players who scored centuries in Test matches and it will not be a huge problem and it all depends upon how South Africa bat too, India has three spinners in the team and you mentioned earlier that it is a spinning track and there is no way South Africa is going to win this match  Grin.

BTW, the left arm spinner from Bihar, Shahbaz Nadeem is making his debut for India today. It is a bit weird.

I am surprised as well. didn't see his name in the backup players, guess he was selected because of his performance in India A

Good to see that South Africa had a good start as they picked two quick wickets even though they lost the toss yet again and Faf du Plessis should practice on how to get tackle this problem as toss is important in these wickets but the South African bowlers are bowling really good spells and if they are able to pick a couple of wickets then the Indian batting line up will be exposed.

Now they have two left-arm spinners with very similar bowling action in the playing XI (the other being Ravindra Jadeja). Jadeja was very effective during the last match, and ideally they should have gone for more variety by including the wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav.

That means that Faf du Plessis has lost the toss 10 times in a row. This may be a new world record!!!
Faf du Plessis needs coaching on how to win a toss, he is finding it difficult to win the match, let him get some coaching for winning the toss Grin.

once again India won the toss and elected to bat

South Africa made some stupid changes for this test match, and I have no doubt that they will end up losing this match as well. First of all, Senuran Muthusamy has been dropped. He was good with the bat during the first two matches and had picked crucial wickets. So he is being left out and surprisingly Dane Piedt has been included in the squad.

Another surprise is that Aiden Markram has been overlooked in order to include Zubayr Hamza. Looks like a political decision for me. Their selection policy is the main reason why South Africa is struggling to win matches abroad.

Anyway, India seems to be in some sort of trouble. Rabada picked up two wickets and both Cheteshwar Pujara and Mayank Agarwal are back in pavilion.

once again India won the toss and elected to bat, Kohli is really lucky to win consecutive toss and in this pitch toss is a factor as the last days favors spinners and any touring team like to bat first rather than batting in the last innings, India lost their first wicket, Agarwal edged and taken in the third slip and if South Africa is able to pick wickets and put pressure then we will see a good match, India included Shahbaz Nadeem in the team and is making his international debut, i was expecting Kuldeep Yadav to be picked.

For 3rd test, Indian may think about testing the strength of their bench. But, I am sure Wriddhiman Saha will not lose his cloves even Indian future plans are highly depending on Rishabh Pant. India may rest Ishant Sharma as Umesh Yadav is seeming more promising than Ishant. Shubman Gill is the another man may get his long awaited opportunity.

There is room for experimentation as South Africa is looking very weak right now. On top of that, two of their key players will be missing the third test (Aiden Markram and Keshav Maharaj). But at the same time, India can't afford to lose the third test under any circumstances. The world test championship is ongoing and the outcome of each and every test is important.

It may not be a bad idea to rest either Ishant Sharma or Mohammed Shami, and give an opportunity to Kuldeep Yadav. As far as the World Test Championship is concerned, India is ahead of their closest rivals by a massive 140 points. They have some room for experimentation, as long as they make sure that they win the third match.
