Any comments on the 15-member squad announced by India for the 3-match series against South Africa?

Quote
Virat Kohli (Capt), Mayank Agarwal, Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane (vc), Hanuma Vihari, Rishabh Pant (wk),Wriddhiman Saha (wk), R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma, Shubman Gill

KL Rahul was replaced by Shubman Gill, which I thought was a wise move. Rahul was given enough opportunities and he failed to make use of them. For the wicket keeper slot, it is going to be a choice between Rishabh Pant and Wriddhiman Saha. I would go for Pant, given Saha's age. And I guess Kuldeep Yadav will have to sit outside, if Ashwin and Jadeja are picked as the spinners.

I think its a pretty decent selection. You cannot give chance to both the wicket keepers and the first keeper to be given a chance would be Rishabh Pant and if he performed well both beyond the stumps and with the bat,  Wriddhiman Saha will have no chance to play. As a matter of fact, these wicket keepers have to keep up with the standards of Dhoni which will not be an easy task.

Did he accept it was true or he denied it claiming to be a self made story ?
He said some of them were not true and he did not deny the incident that happened.

I know this is a sensitive topic but why didn’t Ben Stokes stop them before publishing this story, as sun has stated they received no objections from Stokes family.
If Stokes was not famous then do you think any newspaper would bother to publish a story that is buried 31 years ago? The main key here is Stokes. They brought up this story because they know that this will bring their paper on tea table.

Personally, I do not believe anything these media gives as their excuse. To defend them from losing their market they can come up with anything, and they would not bother to lie. We have seen this from history.

May be they did not even ask Stokes before publishing it. What I know is that they went for interviewing Stokes and his wife and they denied to talk to the media about it.

Media and channels do not let go any opportunity which give them attention and fame. And that is why we see so many scandals about the famous personalities.
What is more concern to me is what was the reaction from Ben Strokes after this news was made public. Did he accept it was true or he denied it claiming to be a self made story ?

Can you let me know what exactly they are pointing out for the strokes in this particular case ? I am unable to understand the whole story here. Huh
I do not want to publicly post it here. This news is better not to share in public (The media actually want it).  I will PM you.

I did read the link which you send me through PM and i am really sad to know this story.  Not only that this story should not be made public, but i never thought Ben stokes had a such a tragedy in his childhood. We think that these super stars are living the ideal life but we never know who is facing want problems and issues in their personal life.

^^^ I have always considered Ashwin as a very over-rated bowler, who had historically performed very poorly in test matches outside the sub-continent. He got some powerful backers among the selection committee, and has managed to secure his place despite repeated poor performances. On the other hand I would rate Jadeja as one of the most under-rated Indian players right now.

The sun was after leveraging the fame of Ben and the pulled something that the family wanted to forgot. We need to respect peoples private life.
Respect is a gentleman's game and these sell out media outlets will not honor those and all they want is to sell the news. The reason they published is because Ben cannot file a defamation case against them as the events are true, either way it was a dick move by the media to make money selling off their cricketing superstar by telling his traumatic incident that has happened in his family three decades ago.

Another two weeks to go for the first India vs South Africa test. The location for the first test is Visakhapatnam, and I expect the pitch to favor spinners and the batsmen. We might see Ravichandran Ashwin back in the Indian squad after a long interval, as he is very lethal in subcontinental pitches which give enough assistance to the spinners.

On the other hand, South Africa is not looking in good form. Their batting lineup is looking very thin, especially after the retirement of Hashim Amla earlier this year. The bowling is likely to be dependent on the spinners (especially Keshav Maharaj), as I am not sure how much assistance the pacers will be able to get (Lungi Ngidi, Anrich Nortje.etc).

@bryant.coleman team India is very strong when they’re playing at home, hence I believe they’ll easily defeat South Africa. There’s no confirmation that Ashwin will start, as the Indian captain Virat has preferred Jadeja over Ashwin in recent series so it’s looks difficult for Ashwin to make it to the playing 11.

Let's just forget about this Stokes episode and move ahead. A lot of exciting cricket is happening right now and in my opinion, we should not let the Stokes scandal divert the subject. The 4-day match between India A and South Africa A has ended in a draw. During the last day, Priyank Panchal scored a century and Karun Nair ended up with an unbeaten 51. However, one of the players who have been shortlisted for the senior side (Abhimanyu Easwaran) failed in both the innings.
In this game Senuran Muthusamy South Africa born Indian has played. He has a big record in first level games scoring above 3000 runs with the highest being 181. Every team has got players who have got some relation with Indian cricket. I didn't watched the match, but looking upon the scorecard the match has been played well by both the teams.

South African Indians migrated to that country during the 19th century and they don't have any relation with India now. They don't speak any of the Indian languages and have almost completely assimilated with the English-speaking community. And he is not the first Indian to play for South Africa. Forgot about Keshav Maharaj? Till now, he has played a total of 25 tests for South African senior side.

I personally think that The Sun is not lying here when it says that they took permission from Stokes' family before publishing that article, as Ben Stokes has remained absolutely silent regarding that sentence of the article till now. I hope that he replies soon if it's a lie.
Same here. I greatly respect Stokes as a cricketer and he is basically a legend in the making, but his personal life has always been controversial and I feel both Sun and Stokes(Or his family) are to be blamed for this.

I am pretty sure that his family probably might have agreed to a contract with Sun behind his back or Stokes himself could have arranged a deal, but he or his family decided to back out at the last moment while the Sun did not. A complete mess in my opinion.

The incident they published about Stokes is a true event even though it happened several years ago and hence they might think that they will be having a legal protection as they did not publish anything that is not true, but morally it was not a good job to publish a tragedy that happened even before he was born and to make a news headlines when he was playing really well and made these amazing performance, i am sure if these were published before the Ashes there would be a public outcry because it will affect his performance and hence they would have lost the Ashes, the timing of the publication was also well thought by them.
If this was an incident of an average joe's life then no paper was not going back 31 years ago and wake up a tragedy that happened to a family. It's Ben Stokes, the new craze of English cricket! Publishing something about him will sell more paper meaning more advertising money for the news paper.

There is an unofficial test ongoing between India A and South Africa A at Mysore. The match will most likely end up in draw, but there were a few good performances from the fringe players. For India, Shubman Gill, Karun Nair, Wriddhiman Saha and Shivam Dube made half centuries, and Kuldeep Yadav picked up 4 wickets. Shahbaz Nadeem is also closer to a senior side call up, after he nabbed 3.

For the South Africans, both Wiaan Mulder and Aiden Markram made centuries. The 21-year old Mulder picked up 3 wickets as well. His performance just confirms the level of talent available in South Africa. But the problem for the South Africans comes from retaining such talent. With dozens of players lost to countries such as England and Australia, the performance of the South African team is suffering.

The Sun is one of the largest media mouthpieces in England. In normal cases, I would never expect them to publish something as sensitive as this article, without looking in to the legal and ethical aspects. I am 100% sure that they made sure that they will be able to defend themselves before deciding to print this piece of news.

^^^^ I guess that was from the explanation published by the Sun, after Ben Stokes expressed his outrage. I don't want to criticize him at this point, especially in such a sensitive subject. But you can't expect a media giant like The Sun to publish some personal information, without getting prior permission from the individuals who are involved. They are claiming that they had informed Stokes, and he raised no objection at that point. If Stokes think that this is a lie, then let him go ahead with legal action.

I would advice these guys to stop fooling people. The same thing he tried during the world cup finals. He was happy when he got 6 runs from the overthrow. When the fans reacted negatively to that, he claimed that he had asked the umpires to reverse their decision (a claim which was rubbished by the same umpires later).

Here is the explanation from The Sun (at the very bottom):

Ben said he is not going to tolerate it. But there one no clear indication if he will take legal aid or not.

He also said,
