It was a good outing for the bowlers but jeez 50+ extra runs?

The scoreline could've been 280-290 if they were a bit careful with those extras. In the first inning, extras made the second highest mode of runs for Australia, hope that doesn't come back to haunt Pakistan. That's where subcontinent bowlers always get carried away with the extra bounce and pace.

Apart from the extras, there were some dropped catches as well. Anything below 300 would have given a psychological advantage for Pakistan. When they got Mitchell Starc out, the score was 275/7. And it was 286/8 when Mitchell Marsh got out. But then the tailenders (Pat Cummins, Nathan Lyon and Josh Hazlewood) added valuable runs and took them to 318. So far Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq have started well against Starc/Hazlewood/Cummins. By the end of today's play we will get an idea about who is having the upper hand in this match.

Beautiful bowling from Rabada, both Kohli's and Iyer's wickets were beauty. On Indian side, some beautiful shots from KL Rahul, one of his cover drive reminded me of Brian Lara.

Australia all out for 318, with the last wicket being picked up by Hasan Ali. I would say that Pakistan has a slight advantage here, and if they can get to first innings lead, then there is a good chance that they will end up winning this match. Their strategy of going out with 4 seamers (Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mir Hamza, Hasan Ali and Aamer Jamal) worked well this time. Only Hasan Ali looked out of form (although he managed to pick up 2 wickets). Aamer Jamal was impressive once again and picked up 3 wickets, after nabbing 7 wickets in the first test.

But Australia's seven-wicket loss in the first session today means seamers are getting wickets in this Test. It will be easy for Australia to pick because Australia also has Mitchell starc, Pat commins, Josh Hazelwood, Mitchell Marsh these four pacers but Pakistan will not let anyone down. But if Pakistan can take a few runs lead in this Test then it will remain a bonus for Pakistan for the second innings. However, considering the condition of today's wicket, there will be a possibility of Pakistan getting all out today.

While I was watching this match we have good improvement in bowling and fielding which helps Pakistan for having 7 wickets in this session which started early due to last day rains having early wickets of Head and Labuschagne give good advantage to them even we have good display of aggressive batting from Mitchell Marsh but still Pakistan done good job now they are having another problem with they give 52 extra runs which are huge contribution for them to Australian batting with second-highest runs which can surely create problems for them if their batting not able to have anything positive on this pitch in their first inning.

Australia lost three wickets for 187 after batting two sessions yesterday but Australia already fell by four wickets in the first session today. So today Australia is very likely to get through a session. But in the condition of the wicket today, if Pakistan cannot maintain the consistency of wickets like Australia, then it will be difficult for Pakistan to take the lead by targeting the first innings runs given by Australia.

As the post was being written, Mitchell Marsh was caughtout to Aamer Jamal bowled by Mir Hamza. Now it will be difficult for Australia to bat till 100 overs.

This is seam bowling heaven where one team went with a full seam attack so don't let the scorecard fool you.

It's not a 350-400 pitch but a 250-285 runs pitch at best and I reckon it will be a low scoring match where even 70-80 runs inning would be considered epic. India needs to add 40-50 more runs and i think they are set for the first inning.

So many in replies shows not many of them are actually watched test cricket, they just go by the scoreboard. Smiley

It was unlucky in the end because India could have crossed 250 mark if play lasted for a little longer but tomorrow morning that is going to be difficult and also weather prediction is not great for tomorrow either, so let's hope KL can make as much as he can.

India too have 4 pace bowling attack, so it isn't going to be easy peasy for SA to bat in 2nd inning.
Yeah, that's my understanding.

The pitch was challenging and a few dismissals were out of nowhere, like a ball misbehaving with uneven bounce from the back of the length. It always creates doubt in the batter's mind and sometimes makes batting like a lottery. Ashwin and Iyer's wickets are a good example of uneven bounce and it's almost impossible to tackle when someone facing 140+ kmph.

Rahul's job won't be easy, accumulating runs with the tailenders is an art and requires a lot of luck in challenging conditions. Hope he farms the strike successfully. Indian seamers are good but they need to pick up the line as quickly as possible and hope the sun stays hidden, otherwise, some passage of play could become helpful for the batters. I am excited to watch Krishna here, if he gets in his groove early then he can do some serious damage.

South Africa bowling performance in this match is outstanding and their decision of bowling first against India is good beacuse india lost their 8 wickets in just 208 runs score. Kl Rahul is playing an important innings of 70 runs in 105 balls that helped india to much to cross 200 runs in end of first day of test match.
Let me be clear is it a test match ongoing between India and South Africa or some kind of t20 or ODI format because the way India is playing so aggressively is surprising

Did you actually watch the match? Or just getting this aggressive impression solely from scorecard?

Only Rohit got out while tried to pull, and he is one of the best when it comes to pull shot but unlucky it went straight to fine leg and everyone tried to implement their test batting style but the conditions were really testing and more bouncy than expected which took some nips into slips, but it's what tends to happen in test and still It's too early to make any judgement without seeing the performance from other team. Here I agreed with you conditions are clearly favoring bowlers and on Boxing Day we have good performance from the Kagiso Rabada who was the hero for the South African team with another five wickets haul Indian top order was not in good touch which bring some problems but middle order done good resistance and able to touch figure of 200+ now hopefully if we have no more rain they will be able to add few more runs which could be good for them after this now its test case for the Indian pace attack how they will do on this pitch.
First inning could be vital for the both teams which team will be taken lead surely have good chance to stand till end after long white-ball matches now this was tough day for the all Indian batting lineup.

Rain interfering as usual. India can reach the 250 mark as long as Rahul doesn't get out and some tail-ender should survive. Am expecting the South African bowlers to try and remove the tail-enders asap.

The Indian bowlers need to perform well in order to get a lead in the first innings. However, this match could also end as a draw thanks to rain.
If the second day's play is stopped due to rain then there may be a possibility of this test being a draw but if the second day's play starts as usual then there is no possibility of this test being a draw. As South Africa have already collected 8 wickets and at highest can collect at least 50 runs in the remaining two wickets. Moreover, there is no guarantee that South Africa will be able to bat very comfortably in this test. Rabada of South Africa has collected 5 wickets which means that the bowling performance of the pacers in this test is very good so the Indian pacers will also do very well in this test. I don't see the possibility of a draw in this test, if the rain continues then there will be a possibility of a draw.

Now the only batter who can make a difference will be Rahul for India, because if they lose him, no doubt the Indian team will depart for the pavilion before 250. So Rahul should not only hold his wickets but also take as much as possible delivery in front of himself because his partner wicket can damage him just as much as his wicket.

Indian lost their wickets continually and if they play like that so maybe much faster their team will be all out under 250 runs. They lost three wickets under 15 overs and when 65 overs were also left so maybe the Indian team will lose their all wickets in some runs. When wickets were falling back to back in the beginning so I think that the 2019 thing will repeat means in 2019 Indian team was on a tour of Australia and on that they lost all the wickets under 36 runs., but now they almost completed 200 so that thing will not happen again this time.

In today's 1st Test match of South Africa vs India, India team came to bat. In 58 overs, they scored 202 runs for 8 overs. India team did not perform well in batting today. India team batsman Rohit Sharma got out for 5 runs in 14 balls.  Virat Kohli is out for 38 runs in 64 balls. Shubman Gill is out for 2 runs in 12 balls. But India team batsmen are under pressure to perform well from South Africa team bowlers. It seems that India team will not be able to score 260 runs before India team all.  will be out.
Kagiso Rabada performed very well in the first inning of match. He took 5 wickets by giving 44 runs in 17 overs. Nandre Burger also performed very well, he took important 3 wickets . He surprised Indian batsmans. South African International cricket team is dominant on Indian International cricket team and Indian International cricket team is not that kind of team that will play excellent in foreign countries. They play well on their own pitches. They can't win this test match against South Africa.Indian Cricket board should give permission to their players to play other countries leagues.

South Africa bowling is amazing especially Kagiso Rabada who picked 5 wickets by giving 44 runs in 17 overs also picked top wickets including Rohit Sharma and Virat kholi. India will looking to cross 250 plus total in Frist inning of test match because Kl Rahul is playing very well at 70 runs unbeaten.

The way India started their innings, I thought they would lose all their wickets between 150-170. South African bowlers bowled well today. Rabada's bowling in particular was excellent today. Rabada took 5 wickets out of 8 wickets. But Kl rahul is still unbeaten with 70 runs. Rahul wants to score a century. But there is no experienced batsman at the crease to support Kl Rahul. My guess is that India's innings will end in the first 10-15 overs tomorrow. Probably India will be able to collect like 220-240.

The outcome of this match will now depend on the Indian bowlers. If the Indian bowlers do not bowl well, there is no chance of winning this match. However, the first day's play was delayed due to rain. If the match is delayed due to rain in the coming days too, the chances of a draw will increase.

India is getting decimated by the South Africans at the moment thanks to Rabada and Burger who keep chipping away their wickets. Rahul is their lone warrior and is trying to take them closer to 250 with the tail-enders.

KL Rahul is still at the crease with 70 runs. But there is no qualified batsman to support him. The match is now being delayed due to rain. Rain is definitely a boon for India right now. Before the rain started, India collected 208 runs in 59 overs, India lost 8 wickets

Kagiso Rabada destroyed India's batting order today. Bowling 17 overs, he gave only 44 runs, and he picked up 5 important wickets. He picked up the wickets of Kohli, Rohit, Iyer, Aswin and Shardul Thakur. India could have collected big in the first innings if any of the batsmen could survive at the crease.
Kagiso Rabada destroyed the Indian batting today.Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma played the worst for India today, both of them had a very poor batting performance today.I had high hopes for Virat Kohli but he disappointed getting out for just 38 runs. But Lokesh Rahul is still playing well even as he remains unbeaten on 70 runs. However, there is no batsman to give him proper support.

South African bowlers delivered an impressive performance in today's test match, with Kagiso Rabada securing his maiden Test five-for against India. India finds themselves under pressure, but KL Rahul continues to fight for the team. Rahul consistently shows up when needed, displaying resilience regardless of the conditions. It won't be surprising if India somehow manages to cross the 250-run mark in this innings.
