Tamim Iqbal should have been included in the squad as the opener. BCB has added two inexperienced openers to the squad who have not played very well in international matches so far. Moreover, Shakib has not been able to bat well for a long time. However, I am happy that Bangladesh did not lose all the wickets on the first day. I would be happy if they could play 15 overs tomorrow.

The selectors went for Shadman Islam and Saif Hassan as the openers. I don't know why Tamim was not selected. There was only one warmup match and he didn't got much of an opportunity to bat. But I heard that he performed well during the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (for Prime Bank). Perhaps the board wanted to give opportunity for some youngsters and may have made the decision thinking that Zimbabwe is going to be a relatively weak opponent. BTW, when was the last test victory for Zimbabwe against a full member? That was in 2018?

I was enjoying the game of Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe. They lost 6 wickets for 268 runs. Enjoying so far I was doing my daily chores. A while ago I checked the scoreboard again, they lost 8 wickets for 288 runs. Mehdi Hasan Miraj was out for zero. We don’t expect ducks from experienced players like him. My guess is that Bangladesh will collect around 315 runs.
Indeed, I also thought that Miraz will contribute there with his batting skill. But he destroyed my expectation. And I have no words about the openers, they aren't experienced enough. Don't know why BCB made a squad like this. At least they should keep an experienced batsman as the opener. However, Bangladesh team is in good condition now. They have higher chance of winning the match.

Looking after scorecard it seems like both team fought well here. 2 early wickets, followed by 2 small valuable partnership and middle order collapse, after all this drama lower middle order producing 100+ run partnership. Damn seems like a perfect script in test cricket but sadly we're not going to hear much about it, as not enough eyeballs.

LOL.. scorecard doesn't tell the whole story, I am afraid. Zimbabwe got such a great start, but then they wasted it. At one point, Bangladesh was down to 132/6, but then Brendan Taylor went for the spin of Milton Shumba rather than cleaning up the lower order and tail using Blessing Muzarabani. That allowed Liton Das and Mahmudullah to build such a big partnership. And when Muzarabani came back in to the attack, it was too late. The 7th wicket partnership added a total of 138 runs. Brendan Taylor could have used Tiripano and Muzarabani a bit more.

140/6 is Bangladesh playing test cricket or ODI. This is pathetic batting from Bangladesh if I compare them with Zimbabwe. Looking at the score it seems Bangladesh underestimated Zimbabwe bowling except for the captain all of them have scored below 20. Only one single bowler from, Muzarabani took most of the wickets. As it is Day1, Bangladesh still have time to recover.

LOL.. check the scoreboard now. Liton Das and Mahmudullah rescued them from abyss. Bangladesh are at 261/6 and the 7th wicket partnership has so far added 129 runs. Zimbabwean bowlers such as Blessing Muzarabani and Victor Nyauchi, who looked lethal a few hours back are now looking very ordinary. And idiotic captaincy doesn't help much. Brendan Taylor is persisting with Milton Shumba despite his lack of success. Ideally he should have used Muzarabani a bit more (so far has has bowled only 14 overs).

Does anyone following BANvsZIM test match? Bangladesh lost their first three wickets in the first session. A perfect start for Zimbabwe, let's see if Bangladesh recover after their batting collapse in the first session. Bangladesh three young star gone and as usual now the responsibility to their senior cricketers.

Bangladesh really looking pathetic out there. I am watching live on Fancode (since none of the TV channels are covering this match here in India). I was expecting a lot from Bangladesh, because Shakib Al Hasan is playing for them. But he got out for just 3 runs. Blessing Muzarabani was exceptional, as usual. But the other Zimbabwe players also gave him a lot of support, especially Victor Nyauchi and Richard Ngarava. It is always nice to see the young inexperienced Zimbabwe side preforming so well.

Currently there are 38 Ranji team in domestic arena. Mumbai used to be dominant force in the past, they won approx 40 seasons so far, they are still good but nowadays Mumbai gets serious competition from other teams such as Delhi, Gujarat, Vidarbha, Saurashtra, Karnataka.

Along with Mumbai, Karnataka used to be one of the powerhouses. There was a time (during the 90s), when a majority (>50%) of the Indian national players were from Karnataka - Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, Venkatesh Prasad and Javagal Srinath, to name a few. Even Maharashtra couldn't achieve this sort of dominance at their peak. But then times changed, and demographic reality meant that Northern India gets more representation when compared to the other regions (due to their fast growing population).

Yes some domestic teams are shit and lack quality but Indian folks should get over this inferiority (Spin pitch -Seam, fast pitches) complex as far as cricket is concern.
Since the discussion is regarding the domestic teams, i would like to know which are the strongest teams, i guess Mumbai should be a strong team like they have in the IPL after that what are the strongest teams and how many teams are there in these domestic tournaments, since you said Uttar Pradesh might be coming out with three teams, does it mean that every state can assemble more than a team.

They made a schedule and that is better for the players who are only playing the domestic matches as most of the players do not even get a chance to play the IPL, so if there is a schedule they will be compensated even if there is a delay in matches.
The virus is mutating faster than expected so it is difficult to predict what the situation would be in the next two months, if the government does not prepare themselves then we will see another catastrophe .

I am not sure about this. As far as I know, if the tournament is cancelled, then the players don't get their match fees (this happened in 2020, when some of the domestic tournaments were announced and later cancelled). Also, if the matches doesn't take place, the match fees can't be distributed. Because the BCCI will have no information on who would have been included in the playing XI. Unless they have that information, how can they distribute the match fee? They paid a small amount as compensation in 2020, but the players complained that this was only a small fraction of the salary they would have earned if the tournaments were conducted.

BCCI has scheduled the match keeping in mind the normal situation. But the situation in India does not look normal for at least the next six months. So maybe the schedule has to be canceled, otherwise the schedule time will be delayed. BCCI cannot maintain all the schedules.

It is a lot of matches and it is good news for the players who were missing out of action for over a year and i assume that they will be paid only when they are playing or does the BCCI or their state board pay them salary on a monthly basis, i have no idea about these details but i know they get paid for playing the match, without any workout i hope there will be many players that are completely out of shape Grin.
BCCI has no idea what is happening in India? The way they have scheduled matches makes me believe that India is pandemic free. Yeah! If those match happen players will get paid but if any one of them gets cancelled they will not. Anyways I do not have time to watch domestic cricket.

The Indian domestic cricket season for men will start from mid-October onwards, and the BCCI is hoping that the pandemic will be under control by then. It may be optimistic, but given the daily vaccination numbers, I have hope. Even the experts are saying that the chances of a third wave is very small, since a majority of the population has been exposed to the virus till now. As of now, only around 4.8% of the population has been fully vaccinated (with another 16% receiving one dose of the vaccine). The numbers are too low, but by October, the government thinks that they will be able to inoculate a large fraction of the population.

^^ Well its not priority for the BCCI atm but i do see possibility of 2-3 teams emerging from the Uttar Pradesh in next decade or so, condition apply; if their economy kicks in. Due to same domestic cricket, India is considered final frontier for every SENA countries. Ranji is different from the Shield, County etc but not inferior IMO. Yes some domestic teams are shit and lack quality but Indian folks should get over this inferiority (Spin pitch -Seam, fast pitches) complex as far as cricket is concern.

The solution is not to add more teams, but to merge the smaller teams. Zone-level competition previously existed in the form of Deodhar Trophy. Then the BCCI changed the tournament and now no such championship exist in Indian domestic cricket. IMO, there can be 6-7 zones - North, Central, West, South, East, Northeast and UP-Bihar. Within each zone, they can have state-level championship. For example, in the North Zone, they can have a tournament involving Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab-Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, Himachal.etc.

The current domestic structure in India doesn't make any sense. There are too many teams and some of them represent territories which account for less than 0.05% of the total population. On one hand, we have a single team representing Uttar Pradesh (population of 240 million) and on the other hand, we have teams for Union Territories such as Chandigarh and Puducherry (with population of ~1 million). This is the primary reason why the quality of domestic cricket in India is much inferior, when compared to the country championship in England, or Sheffield Shield in Australia.
