Both Rohit and Rahane have contributed more than half of the runs on the scoreboard.
Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane and Rishabh Pant scored 286 runs out of the 329 runs put on the board which means the rest of the batsman only contributed 43 runs which is really disappointing. India needs to play as team if they want to be competitive against top teams rather than relying on individual performance.

Joe Root is in form and for England to win the match his contribution is important and the match depends upon how England responds in their first innings and how the Indian bowlers dominate the match.

the morning session is crucial for India as they need to put above 400 runs to be in a comfortable position.
India's tail can't last long in the turning pitch so they lost all wickets in the very few overs itself and scored 329.When we are talking about the Indian spinners, Ishant gave an early strike in the first over itself which will push ENG to the defending mindset more.

Hopefully the bowling unit will utilize the good start and take all the wickets as soon as possible.

England making a mistake here by not using Stuart Broad/Olly Stone. I don't know why Joe Root is bowling now. He is good for short spells of 2-3 overs, but this is not the time for him to come out to bowl. England needs to take quick wickets, if they want to have any chance of winning the match. Any total of more than 350 will be very daunting on this surface. Anyway, right now Rishabh Pant is thrashing the spinners all over the park and we may see 350 very soon.
The pitch is helping the spinners and Joe Root was getting the ball to turn and he even took a wicket and rather than giving the ball to the fast bowlers he wanted to test them. India is all out for 329 runs which is really good as i thought they will score much bigger than that with the way Rohit Sharma was batting.

England lost the first wicket without a score on board, they need to play longer even though the pitch is difficult.

The scoreboard looks good and if Indian ballers can do the damage early then there is a good chance Indian might win the match. At one point I thought Rohit Sharma would reach 200 but good to see him back. I was also expecting Rahane to reach a hundred but it's okay. Both Rohit and Rahane have contributed more than half of the runs on the scoreboard.

Before the match, Michael Vaughan had criticizes the England management for dropping Dom Bess and replacing him with Moeen Ali. I believe that this move actually worked for England. Dom Bess picked wickets in the first test, but his line and length was horrible. He bowled a lot of full-tosses and this resulted in Indian batsmen putting the pressure back on the English bowlers at crucial times. And I believe that Moeen is a better batsmen compared to Bess as well. The combination of Moeen/Leach seems to be working for England in this match.
Moeen is definitely better batsman but as a bowler he was quite expensive despite taking 2 key wickets. I feel that Root took defensive stance whenever Left hand batsman came to bat. He quickly replaced the Leach when Pant took a strike, its long series and not sure if this tactic is going to help him for long unless seamer dismiss lefty batsmen.

Edit
Lulzzzz

2 more wickets for Moeen.

-----
Pant's effect working nice, Jack leach is not bowling and every fielder on boundary line

The wicket of Kohli by an amazing ball by Moeen Ali reminded me of the ball Shane Warne bowled to Mike Gatting. Both were similar with the batmans stunned that they have been bowled.

Anyway I thought India fought back well after Gill and Kohli going out for a ducks. Sharma has helped India post a decent total on day 1 as it was looking like we could see India bowled out for a low total. I think if India can get to 400 its a decent total batting first on this pitch.

So the pitch curator knows what team India wanted and made it further slower I guess and also they prepared with three spinners to attack the ENG from the initial overs itself. Fortunately India won the toss this time so the captain can't blame the toss for losing if they lose this match as well from a good start.
Toss was the major factor and if England won he toss they would have gladly batted first and repeat what they did in the first match as it is difficult to bat later on and we saw how India struggled in the first match as the pitch wears down pretty fast with invariable bounce and the spinners will have a great day from the third day onwards and the morning session is crucial for India as they need to put above 400 runs to be in a comfortable position.

In some wild guessing which are based on pitch conditions and home advantage of India, I guess this 2nd test match may end up in draw. This is the reason I just stayed away from betting for this match. Today Rohit batting was one of the thing I enjoyed even I did not have any open bet with this match.
There is no way the match ends up in a draw when the pitch showed signs of huge turn in the first day and India is known to play spin very well and yet they were not able to counter the England spinners and hope you remember how much runs England was able to score in the second innings. Toss crucial in pitches like these and India is in favorable position even though they lost their top order batsman.

This Wicket is much slowest as we have in first test look like its going to be good contest between both teams because after first test win England is confident side but if India  manage to reach 400 or 425 then surely some pressure on England which could be very important for India Root could be key for England as others not doing good tomorrow first session will good shape to this test match.
Yeah, I agree this pitch is going to be complete different one compared what we have seen for the first test. When pitch is going to be different means if England will be set to chase on 5th day, then they might have some chances to win unlike how India on last day of 1st test match of this series. Anyway I am not seeing that India could post 400+ total tomorrow as morning session will be challenging one and only Pant is the recognized batsmen there, so any 1 or 2 wicket will wrap up India below 350 or hardly 380 runs.

As mentioned earlier that Rohit and Rahane need to be back in form and both played well and their innings helped India to reach 300/6. Should try to reach 400 in first innings so that they can possibly if have a lead by getting all out quickly will help them to win this test and be part of finals for Test Championship. Rohit innings was fabulous and hope Pant can stay on the pitch for longer time tomorrow.

50 from Pant and 30s for both Ashwin and Axar.

Pant vs Leach
Ravichandran Ashwin is back in the pavilion and Rishabh Pant is still batting along with Axar Patel and anything they score beyond 350 will be an added bonus as the tail end is really weak and with the pitch turning a lot in the first innings the Indian spinners will have a good time bowling in this wicket as the three spinners have different approach, Axar with stump to stump line and wrist spin by Kuldeep Yadav and Ashwin at one end will be a deadly combination.
Pitch looks very slowish for the first day which means there is lot of wickets will be shared between the spinners for sure. More longer India bat on the second day will give advantage to their bowlers as well. Kohli failed again as a batsman because of captaincy fear?

We are losing our best ever batsman in the world due to extra added pressure which I feel in that way. India managed to score 300+, thanks to Rohit because he was tested at his 90s too long with the stump to stump ball line from Moeen.

The third umpire for India and England is not good as he gave not out to a clear glove touch by Ajinkya Rahane and i thought that could change the game but England was able to pick his wicket and now the advantage goes to England as India lost 5 wickets for 259 runs and Pant and Ashwin is in the crease, one more wicket here and the tail is exposed. The ball is turning a lot and it will be difficult for England to score easily as India have three spinners and the game depends upon how Joe Root bats.

This wicket will be unplayable on the 4th and 5th day in Chennai so i think fast bowlers would be much helpful in the later innings. India have the clear advantage in this match as they will not have to bat last and also they have started this test with solid partnerships.

Yeah the pitch is quite interesting in Chennai. We already saw how it was in the First test and England did well to think out their plan on the final day and it was all Anderson to pick those crucial wickets and break the bone of the Indian batting order. Great call from Kohli to chose batting after winning the toss and I am certain that this had put a pressure on England to how to work this through. Good call and good advantage.

Great batting from Rohit Sharma and Rahane to put some good amount of runs. I hope they at least play till 340-350 atleast.

England and India resting players and i am surprised with the exclusion of Jasprit Bumrah, Anderson and Bess.
3rd Match is Pink ball Test (D/N) so both teams are resting their fast bowlers. England follow rotation policy anyway so its not a brainer and also their schedule is packed with the Test cricket, similarly India also playing fair amount of Test Cricket + IPL + T-20 World Cup so Bumrah need to be fresh for almost everything. That's why BCCI managing his work load.

No idea about Bess tho.
