Garry Sobers batting stats are ridiculously good. If Ben Stokes wants to surpass him in near future then he needs to work on his bowling. Considering his recent bowling rank (23th), i would say real hard work and if continue his batting form for the next 2 years then there is a good chance.

Being a All-rounder is tough job indeed, that's why we don't see many top-notch all rounders in intl cricket.
Garry Sobers is the benchmark when it comes to all rounders in world cricket as he was an explosive batsman and he could bowl fast and would bowl spin according to the pitch condition and he was a brilliant fielder in slips as well as in the outfield and there is only Jacques Kallis to compare to that level of skill level in the history of cricket and for Ben Stokes to reach those levels he needs to improve his catching skills as i have seen him dropping catches and need to play consistently for a longer period of time.
I doubt if Stokes going to surpass Jacques Kallis even on batting, let alone Sobers. If he's focusing on only Test/ODI then there is some chance that he could play longer and come close to them but again their Test batting average is above 55 and Stokes is still under 40 average.

He always perform in big games tho, which is commendable.

Edit : Roach got the first wicket (Sibley) score is 1/1/1
Interesting. Anderson, Broad would go on together in the bowling attack with Woakes and Archer too on the side. I think the great batting of Ben Stokes has allowed them to go with 5 full time bowlers and Chris Woakes can bat too. I think England have realized that key to win this series is to bowl out west Indies ASAP. But to be very true if you give a look on batting line up you would see just 3 big names. Root, Stokes and Buttler. What do you think JS? will this strategy work or it could backfire? West Indies are confident about their bowling line up too. But I have heard Gabriel is injured and is now off-field.

Indications are that the England pace attack will consist of Broad, Woakes and Archer. That means that James Anderson and Sam Curran may be dropped for the third test. I would like to include Anderson in the place of Archer, as I have always believed that the latter is too overhyped. His performance was not that satisfactory during the first test as well. On top of that, he have issues with his discipline and that may negatively impact the team bonding.

The last and final test between England and WestIndies will be played tomorrow. This match will decide who is the winner of this test series. The win is important for both the teams especially WestIndies. It will be a big achievement for them to win a test series in England, provided they are able to do so. In about 5 days times, we will see who will take away the Wisden Trophy.
After the second match performance by England I doubt there is any chance that West Indies would be able to survive against them. They have their men back. Even Archer would play the next match and hopefully Anderson too. So the bowling would become even more interesting and difficult to choose from. And yes stokes as we have already seen is on fire so I expect it to be a one sided encounter.
Weather is very serious threat for next third and final test if its interrupted then surely West Indies is going to be in good otherwise its surely going to be one sided affair for England because now they have main bowlers set and Stokes form is also very good just need 1 or 2 batsmen to stay on and give good response.
Yes, i read an article there is a 82% chance of precipitation on the second day of the match. While 60% chances of rain on all the three days thereafter. Manchester or I should say Whole England has the problem of rains in this season. So no one can do anything about this. But lets see England took the match even when more than 50 overs were ruined by rain. I expect a similar performance today.

The chance of England winning this test match is more than 50 percent after their brilliant performance in the last match. With the rain the match can also end in draw. I personally do not want to see it ends in a draw as this match will affect the series too.

Currently we have hot topic is Stokes good enough to compare with Garry Sobers and Jack Kallis then reply is no but he need few things as still he can play for 6 to 7 years just done some hard work in bowling and fielding then surely he can reach on level where we will talk him with these greatest all rounders right now he need to do some hard work with these two departments because these are not fair enough to talk him with this all.

I hope the weather will not play the anti hero in the series and according to the weather reports there might be light showers in the coming week and hopefully it will not hurt the series. It is a really good opportunity for West Indies to draw the series but i am betting on England to win the match and series. As MFahad said the competition is between Jason Holder and Ben Stokes who were crucial in the first two matches.
I personally also don't like weather do any thing with this series decider but we are nothing in front of nature so we have to face currently England is very good after losing first test good come back in second and looking for win in third Stokes is really on top for them Holder is not good as he need to be specially batting form is very poor but still its could be very interesting match to watch.

Although there may be other things to watch out in this match but i will like to see the battle between these two legends and see who come top of the another.

Great list indeed. I consider Kallis ahead of the rest of them even though the statistics put him behind a couple of them considering the fact that he played in recent times when Cricket as a sport got more competitive.
I hate comparing players of different generations and the old legends listed here played the game of cricket because of their passion for the game and not for the money but you cannot say that it was not competitive back in the day as there were no protection for any batsman and the bowlers were ruling the cricket ground but now the opposite as there are many rules and restrictions that favors the batsman and it is a major difference and i can bet the players right now will not play if there were no helmets or body guard and bowlers were targeting their head.

As long as they are playing and are professional players they will be compared regardless of their age. They will be only called legends after they retire until then they are part of cut throat competition.

Comparision also help younger players and new talent to shine. If the comparison is stopped there will not be any reason for them to create new records.

I disagree. It doesn't make sense not to compare players of different generations. Have you ever wondered why people ask who the next Sachin, Ronaldo or Federer will be? These comparisons help motivate players of different ages from around the world.

Sports players become more and more competitive with time and that is a fact which applies to every sport. For example, 300 was a great score in ODI games a decade ago, but it's an average score these days.

Yeah I just discovered this. This means that All rounders are rated out of 1000 too. But it's almost impossible for some all rounder to reach the 900 mark because you need to have Batting and bowling ratings of 950+. So then I found highest ratings of a few top all rounder so far. Ben Stokes isn't the best until yet here is the list of others:

These are a few who came to my mind. Looks like no one could beat garry sobers

Yes and when it comes to pace- all rounder it becomes even more difficult I think. You need double stamina and you will be playing the match twice while other members are going to play it once. In test it becomes even more difficult because on almost everyday you will be either batting or bowling. This makes it really difficult to excel as a pace all rounder.

That's true. i remember kallis and shaun Pollock were two great all rounders South Africa had at that time. Shaun was more of a bowling all rounder but both of these players ensured that there is both batting and bowling depth in the team.

It is wrong to say that all of the old players were passionate about cricket and they never cared for money. And at the same time, it is also not right to paint the current players as money-minded. Cricket is a profession just like any other. If the players earn good amounts of money, then it will allow them to concentrate on the sport without having to worry about anything else. The older generation players were not as lucky as the current ones, since the salaries were very low back then. But I haven't noticed any lack of loyalty or enthusiasm among the current players. Current players such as Virat Kohli and Steve Smith are as enthusiastic about cricket, as anyone else ever was in the past.

And now coming to the unfair advantage given to the batsmen, I believe that it was the rule of the nature. Cricket needs to change with changing times. People are no longer interested in low-scoring matches which can last for 4-5 days. They want quick action with fireworks from the batsmen. If cricket doesn't change, then the fans will dump the sport and may shift somewhere else.

Surpassing Sobers is way too tough even for Stokes. I have always considered him a great batsman, but a decent bowler. Even someone like Kallis couldn't surpass Sobers who I consider the best all-rounder of all time(Disregarding the statistics).

Will it be too early to consider him the man of the series? I hope it is but it also will be rare if he do not perform in the final Test, at-least a 50 and two wickets.
He is top contender for Man of the series, unless Gabriel take 10+ wickets in winning cause but i think Stokes going to get there easily, frankly he's doing everything right for quite some time so i would be surprise if he fails in the next game.
