Doomed to see the future and unable to prevent it
@everyone. Can we have more than 30 seconds per pick? Is this allowed in Yahoo?

You can get a pretty damn good team in 10 man leagues. I mostly play in 12 man or when I’m lucky 14 (I love deep leagues like that). When I do play in 10 man leagues my team feels like a dream team. Well maybe more like an all-star team compared to an 8 man league, which is just silly.

There is an option when drafting to make it 60 seconds or 90 to start (I prefer 60) and then once the draft is like half way done or so the commissioner can move it to 30 seconds, which is normally a good idea.

IIRC we had the same points for QBs last year, 4 per TD and 0.04 per passing yard. I think we had -2 for interceptions, now it's -1, not sure if that's a good thing or not.

W00Ps, almost missed this one. Cheesy

Guess we should add these too the list as well.

  • 13) Increase draft from 30 seconds 60 seconds

YES

  • 14) Increase draft from 30 seconds 90 seconds

NO too long waiting that long if someone drops is a nightmare.

  • 15) -2 for interceptions

YES

Yep, this is the crappy game though.  Starters play only a couple set of downs and I think Mac Jones isn't even playing for the Patriots.  The next game the starters shoukd get at least a half of work in and is a bit more competitive.  But I care not...give me my football!!

Damn, missed it, i'll have to see when it gets replayed.

BTW have you made your votes yet?

Sorry for being late with my answers as I forgot to check this thread for some time. Now that I know my draft position I will begin to get into more mock drafts as I have not practiced nowhere near as much as I need and even then I did terribly last year.

Yeah, thats a tough draft position...I'll step up and trade with yah. Grin

GIANTS on in 4 hours whoo hoo finally.

Seriously?  Shit I better get crackin' if I want to get home in time.  It's been one of those frustratingly unproductive days at work.  Hell, the whole week seems to have been like this.  Running around busy as hell, and getting next to nothing done.

Why are there two games in competing time slots today?  And they seem to be starting a bit early, no?  I don't recall these odd hours last pre-season.

Hate nfl offseason seems like forever lol.

Lol, and it's shorter this year, but yeah pre-season always seems to elevate the anticipation of regular season.  Funny how that works.

I haven't been practicing my drafting skills at all, I've just been too busy.  I expect it to be a bit harder to get high-scoring players with ten teams in the league, certainly harder than it was last year.  Even picking up players on waivers will be a bit more difficult, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.  The difficulty will apply to all of us, so it may result in all of us being a bit more competitive, even if each of is scoring fewer points on average.  It could provide that ever elusive "parity" that the NFL is always striving for.

Yeah the wire becomes more amd more important with the addition of more teams.  It's a big part of fantasy football and we really didn't have to use it last year.

With that being said GIANTS on in 4 hours whoo hoo finally.  I know it's only preseason bit that eats the season is back.  Hate nfl offseason seems like forever lol.

I joined a mock draft and it appears that a 10 man league is harder than the 8 man league we were playing last season. Has everyone been practicing?

To be honest I just like to use the force when doing the draft. I find its better to go by pure rankings of who's left rather than second guess them with my own personal tastes. Regardless, with covid and all the injuries, the last couple of years have proven that long-term success is more about ongoing team management.

You could get your Dream Team in the draft but when those guys get knocked out (for one reason or the other), it pays to be timely in finding a worthy replacement.

It might also be impossible to get a dream team in a 10 man league. I have been practicing and after the first pick I certainly do not have a choice, I can only use the force hehe. I have this list of players of who I want in my draft, however, in these mock drafts I can only get 1 or 2 of them in my team.

I am terrible at Fantasy Football!!!
Action Item list:
  • 08. Do we have divisions?
  • 09. Structure of the playoffs
  • 10. Length of the league
  • 11. Number of IR Slots?
  • 12. Point per First Down?
08. No.
09. Top four teams advance. One week per round of playoffs.
10. 17 weeks, 15 weeks of regular season, 2 total weeks of playoffs.
11. Two! It was a nightmare to have only one spot last year so if there is a setting I would like to be changed is this one.
12. Yes.

I agree, I find playing the wire is where all the fun is.

Yeah in an 8 man league vs a 12 or even 10 man league the wire is much more important.  The back end of your draft in more team leagues end up being hail Mary's that a couple don't pan out and need the wire to survive.  In an 8 man league I barely looked at the wire because my bench was almost as good as my starters so there isn't much of a need to continually drop and add players.

@ChiBitCTy. Agreed, however, it might not be similar last year where the NFL was treating the coronavirus as something similar to a death causing disease. There might be shorter quarantines this year and there will not be discriminatory treatment on the unvaccinated.

I don’t think there’s going to be any change in that regard. As far as I’ve seen so far, all of the covid protocols will remain the same. Now one thing that I think has probably changed is where certain states used to ban unvaccinated players, I don’t think that’s going to be the case any longer. But taking like a week off for getting covid is still going to be the same, so that’s where two IR spots will come in handy.

Edit: just an FYI, everyone should keep in mind when voting for IR spots that having more than normal is a good idea with Covid and all.

Agreed! It would also be much easier for us newbies in this game hehe. I like going to the waiver wire and make trade requests that I do not need, however hehehe.

I’m playing fantasy baseball right now and having that extra IR spot is really helpful as I’ve had several players land in the Covid list so far this season and it’s a big help being able to stash them and getting a part time replacement in there.  I’m sure covid will unfortunately still be a bit of an issue this coming season, though hopefully not as much as it was last season. Let’s hope anyhow.

IIRC we had the same points for QBs last year, 4 per TD and 0.04 per passing yard. I think we had -2 for interceptions, now it's -1, not sure if that's a good thing or not.

I agree that -2 for interceptions is better, we should add that to the list.

Everyone needs to vote on the last 4 settings Dire posted if you haven't already.

That's a great idea.  Next year we'll be more organized, and just post all votes in one thread.  Here're the remaining items needing to be resolved:

Action Item list:
  • 08. Do we have divisions?
  • 09. Structure of the playoffs
  • 10. Length of the league
  • 11. Number of IR Slots?
  • 12. Point per First Down?

My Votes
  • 08. Do we have divisions? - No divisions, may the best four teams win.
  • 09. Structure of the playoffs - 4 teams, single games, win or go home
  • 10. Length of the league - 15 weeks, 2 weeks for playoffs.
  • 11. Number of IR Slots? - 2
  • 12. Point per First Down? - YES!

.

Even though the game doesn’t mean anything, it was exciting having NFL football on last night!

Do we have divisions? No (but I don’t care either way)
Structure of the playoffs- top 4 teams get an entry
Length  of the league- only cut out week 18
Number of IR Slots?- 2
Point per First Down?-  NO

I believe we decided on Yahoo correct? We need to hurry up and set our commissioner so we can start to get this league and everything set up.  Have we decided on entry cost yet? I’m up for anything but would prefer if we make it at least $25.

Edit: just an FYI, everyone should keep in mind when voting for IR spots that having more than normal is a good idea with Covid and all.

OK, heres the direct links to the shares, I don't have time to fuck with the board to figure out why its not displaying.

Here you go:

Do we need to give the quarterbacks such a demotion?  I think we had 6 points for passing TD, and 1 point for 10 yards.  I don't think QBs made many more points than a good running back or Deebo.

N/M I forgot about the 1st downs, that adds essential points and 1/25 really only affects long plays, so whatever.  The passing TDs are fine as well, not sure I agree with it but again, I can see why some would think a pass should count for less.  I like all the other setting, too.

News update.

It appears that massage therapists in Cleveland will presently feel safe. The judge included a mandate that only massage therapists that were hired by the Browns will touch Deshaun Watson's body hehehe.

Robinson’s decision also contains language that mandates Watson receive all massage therapy from Browns therapists, according to a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Source https://www.si.com/nfl/2022/08/01/deshaun-watson-ruling-includes-mandate-about-massages-per-report

These women were hired by the Cleveland Browns to take care of all Deshaun Watson's massage therapy needs. I am quite certain that there will be no more sexual assault.
