Netflix announces new sports series 'Receiver'

Today, Netflix announced its newest sports series "Receiver" that follows pass catchers for the 2023 NFL season: Davante Adams (Las Vegas Raiders), Justin Jefferson (Minnesota Vikings), George Kittle (San Francisco 49ers), Deebo Samuel (San Francisco 49ers) and Amon-Ra St. Brown (Detroit Lions).

"Receiver" is an eight-episode series set to premiere in Summer 2024 as a continuation of Netflix's relationship with the NFL that first began with "Quarterback," which hit the Netflix Global Top 10 for three weeks last year.
<...>

Set to premiere on July 10, 8 episodes just like Quarterback. Here's the trailer:

However, I'm very hyped for him and can't fn wait for the season to start!!

I very much agree hehehe. I am very much excited for the Chargers on their new coach and also for the Texans. CJ Stroud will have a new wide receiver option on the field. This might improve his weekly collection of points for NFL fantasy league players who have Stroud in their team hehe.

Also, excited for the New York Jets and Aaron Rodgers hehehehehe. Mr. Immunized might win those games where they are expected to lose. We can be quite certain that he had enough rest and time for his recovery heheeh.

@ChiBitCTy. Wait for Netflix Sports hehehe. What might be on their roadmap is if Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson is a very successful and a very profitable event, I speculate they might open their platform for most of the major leagues in America and Europe. Apple had this on their roadmap for their tv product that they have cancelled.

It might also be a very good time to start practice on mock drafts on Yahoofantasy? I have been reading articles on top 10s in every offensive positions heheheh. I am still shaking my head for choosing massage Watson for my qb1 on our last draft.

PFF Quarterback Rankings: All 32 starters ahead of the 2024 NFL season

C.J. Stroud cracks the top 10: His yards, touchdowns and big-time throw numbers all placed in the top half of the league, and he had some clutch moments and drives that were well beyond his years.

Jordan Love, Trevor Lawrence are on the cusp of elite: From Week 8 on, Love earned an elite 90.4 passing grade with 27 big-time throws and just 10 turnover-worthy plays. Meanwhile, Lawrence ranked in the top five in big-time throws (33) but struggled with turnover-worthy plays

I've seen a lot of these lists now that we are nearing the 2024 season.  I just hope to find Caleb Williams somewhere decently high this same time next year!

If Netflix is promoting it, does that mean that Netflix subscribers will get to watch it for free? I doubt it but that would be sweet.

I'm pretty sure anyone who has Netflix is going to be able to watch the fight.  I don't see why not.  It's already an "expensive" stand alone television service.  If there is an extra charge, this would be the first time I belive that Netflix has a stand alone event that costs extra money.  I sure as hell hope not!

I will be with you to support Caleb Williams hehe. Let us wish that the Bears did not make a serious error when they traded Justin Fields.

On Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul on Netflix, yes it is free already if you are a subscriber. You can add this in your list of shows to watch and have the platform remind you when the fight is coming soon hehehe. It appears Mike Tyson had a health problem which forced the promoters to postpone it on November.

I can already tell you with complete and utter certainly, and I'd like to think a pretty knowledgeable football fan (sure I'm no scout/analyst, but I've been around the game, played, and pretty good at evaluating talent..so I'd like to think any how lol)  that trading Justin Fields was 1000% the right move.  There's a reason he went for a 6th round pick (potentially a 4th, I believe) and is not even going to be the Steelers starting QB, at least to start.  If he was that good, he'd have been scooped up for a much higher draft pick.  He's Trubisky with more athleticism , better arm and slightly better reading defenses..slightly.

Caleb may very well bust out.  Prob will knowing my luck as a bears fan.  However, I'm very hyped for him and can't fn wait for the season to start!!

It is "free" for Netflix owners.  Yeah I was looking forward to seeing iron Mike run it back one more time.  Good thing they kept on the fight just later in the year.  At 58 it's a long shot but Mike is built different, he's a killer and I think even at his age Paul doesn't have a shot against Mike.  With the shorter rounds it gives Mike an advantage because that 3rd minute would be rough for him with age.  Still can't wait to watch it.

Aw man, they postponed it until Nov 15. The NFL season will be more than halfway over by then. And Tyson will be 5 months older. He's already too old to be doing this IMO. Not that I would mind seeing him smash Jake Paul's stupid face.

Paul-Tyson's new date will raise eyebrows with it falling on a Friday instead of a Saturday, which is commonplace for major boxing events. But with the Dallas Cowboys hosting the Houston Texans on Nov. 18 for "Monday Night Football," a Friday fight would give the stadium time to set up for the Cowboys game.

Does this service have anything else, like TV channel wise..possibly a way to get rid of YT TV for me?

Its mainly grouped by leagues (NBA, MLB, NFL, NHL, NCAA, MMA, MLS, UEFA), and each one has a separate fee.

Apparently it also does have some TV network channels: 8 different ESPNs, NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, MSNBC, USA, CW, PBS, TNT, TBS, and a few others I'm not familiar with. They seem to come with the purchase of a sports package.

I actually just found all this out right now, LOL. I had no idea I had access to all these TV channels! I tend to waste a lot of time on social media, Wikipedia, Netflix, and then doomscrolling through Crypto Twitter, so don't have much time for TV, lol.

I think MM news causes a pacifying type of groupthink. Its like designed to be placating and divisive at the same time, while subconsciously convincing people that being a cog is good. I find life more enjoyable after removing the political rancor from my brain. Not that's what TV is all about necessarily.

Too bad it doesn't also have an HBO option. I'd like to watch the last season of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

That's pretty cool, I appreciate you sharing that info.  I am trying to think of some way to get rid of my YouTube TV.  It's damn near $90 a month and I really just have a basic package.  I feel like when I first signed up just maybe 3 years ago, it was something like $60.  No surprise coming google.

Man I lost HBO when I moved recently.  Even though it was really not that far away, my internet speed dropped big time so had to get something else and lost HBO.  I had watched all but maybe 4-5 episodes of final curb.  I'm just being cheap right now and will prob sign up for HBO stand alone soon.

Would I be mistaken to predict that the 49ers will win a superbowl before 2027?

They've got as good a chance as any team.

I had a bet offer the other day that I couldn't refuse: the person offering the bet wants to take Kansas City to win next season's Super Bowl, and I get all 31 other teams. Its a 1:1 payout. So I had to take it based on sheer math:

Chiefs aren't even in #1 position currently -- that honor belongs to the Niners.

His reasoning was the Chiefs will face a bunch of mediocre opponents in their division, and he may be right about that, but they also have to

1) make it to the playoffs in the first place
2) win all playoff games
3) win the S.B.

Chiefs would be my immediate pick for next year, but I can't ignore the odds as well as he can.

Would I be mistaken to predict that the 49ers will win a superbowl before 2027? Their qb is improving, Deebo Samuel and Christian McCaffrey are on the peak of their careers, Brandon Aiyuk also improving and they have the best defensive team in the NFL. 49ers might play in the superbowl on 2025 against another team. I will shake my head if Reid, Mahomes, Kelce and Swift will do this again as underdogs.

Christian McCaffrey triple-stamped his double stamp atop the running back market.

The San Francisco 49ers and the reigning Offensive Player of the Year agreed to a two-year contract extension worth $19 million per year, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Tuesday, per a source informed of the deal. The team later announced McCaffrey's extension.

Given his importance to the Niners' deep postseason runs -- and the fact that the club was essentially getting a deal with the Panthers having paid the bonus money -- CMC was in line for a new pact this offseason. The deal keeps him under contract until 2027, when he'll be 31, and provides security for the back.

It appears that mr. I am immunized Aaron Rodgers might play for the whole of next season. The Jets on April 24 have traded Zach Wilson to the Broncos. The Jets also did not draft a quarter back if I am not mistaken.

If I am again the last to pick in our next fantasy draft, will picking Aaron Rodgers as my qb1 if I cannot pick anyone from the best be a wise decision?

Does it by chance include RedZone?

Yes, it does! RedZone is always an option during the regular season.

Does it use any IP or GPS location tracking (if so guessing a VPN can be used, or prob is required regardless)?

For most games they have 2 options: those with an IP inside the US and those outside the US.

Btw hows the picture quality?

Its great! It was good even for the one Thursday night game on... what was it... Peacock? that had all the streaming issues. It was fine.

Wait so it's $40 all in for the whole season?  That's insane given cable and the football package.

Yep, including playoffs and Super Bowl. With any luck it will still be around by mid August.

Well damn that's a pretty good deal all around.  I would absolutely be all over it if it made sense for me economically wise.  Like I mentioned I have to have a "full on tv service" of some sort, like YouTube TV, and that includes all Chicago Bears games and I think I pay about $10/mo for RedZone ( or some sort of sports package that includes it) otherwise I'd be all over this.

But yeah I just saw that Netflix partnership yesterday and thankfully have netflix, but it's a bit annonying how much football is starting to be played off basic cable.
Yeah same with baseball.  It's real annoying that you.have to have multiple subscriptions to watch one team.
...

They are definitely trying to milk us to death... but what are we gonna do, not watch football? No way. I'm gonna be renewing this service I used last season that was for a relatively reasonable price: $40 to watch any game, including preseason, playoffs and Super Bowl.

The best part about it is you can rewatch any old game, from any week, whenever you want. They also cut out all the commercials & downtime from those games, so instead of a game taking 3-4 hours, its only ~1.5 hours. Funny enough, the only method of payment they accept is BTC.

If you want to know more about it, shoot me a PM and I'll send you a invite link.

Wait so it's $40 all in for the whole season?  That's insane given cable and the football package.  I never used any of those streaming services for sports but it's looking more and more like the only viable option.  How do those services stay online and not get booted?  Honest question because I've never used them just always paid for cable and the football package straight up.

I have to have a tv services for sports, CNBC investment news and umm..about it , 85 a month for YouTube TV.  Fuck google.  This also doesn't include any Chicago Cubs games which have Marquee network, their own like Wheelz yankees have as well as the Dodgers (pretty sure just those 3 teams, all teams would if they could, but baseball is no NFL in the States).

For me if the Bears are on I'm watching on YT TV and if not, RedZone..this is the way.

Btw hows the picture quality?  It's half ass on YT TV or any service for that matter, and high end TVs are almost worse (minus lag) I've got a very high end TV and it's just ehh.  "4k games" look sick, even though it's not real 4k, and only Fox Network has them during playoffs and then the SB has it.  4k on YT TV, which has extremely little content, $15 a month lol.

Besides thinking in college when I sold my books on amazon since they paid more than local book stores and thinking "this co just sells books, they are def going out of business before long" , "a la cart tv will be amazing" is prob my 2nd worst prediction ever lol.

Lots of NFL news today:

The NFL now has games on Netflix, Peacock, Amazon Prime and ESPN+, while Sunday Ticket is on YouTube TV.

Add Netflix to the list of streaming services you need to watch the NFL. I mean this is getting ridiculous, you can't expect regular folk to have all those subscriptions because some you only need for a game or two, it's so inconvenient.  PPV when?

HBO, NFL Films, Skydance Sports, and the New York Giants are joining forces for HARD KNOCKS: OFFSEASON WITH THE NEW YORK GIANTS, a brand-new iteration of the groundbreaking franchise that will document the NFL offseason for the very first time, announced today.

Interesting. This is not the training camp version of Hard Knocks, kinda looking forward to this tbh.

...the complete 2024 NFL schedule will be released later today, which i guess is what everyone is waiting for.

Oh yeah, I was waiting for the schedule release last night with great intent.  The Sunday Night football game between the Chicago Bears and Houston Texans is what I'm most excited about right now...two young up and coming franchises with a star QB (and a potential start QB in Caleb Williams).

But yeah I just saw that Netflix partnership yesterday and thankfully have netflix, but it's a bit annonying how much football is starting to be played off basic cable.

Yeah same with baseball.  It's real annoying that you.have to have multiple subscriptions to watch one team.  Even worse is the announcers those apps use.  I know for baseball it's almost unlistenable.  When they play on those channels I have to mute the game but the lag time between radio and TV is too big to listen that way either.    And giants play in Germany.  Not sure if it's a home or away game but having a home hlgame in a another country sucks.
