I prefer to see all the information I can from my miner so I took to using the bfgminer stand alone out of the package without the macminer gui. It works great but I can not get the settings to stick, nor can I figure out where it looks for a config file on startup like it does on a pc or linux.

Any help would be appreciated. Always wanted to run bfgminer/cgminer on my macs.

There are also some minor changes and bugfixes which are not specifically detailed here such as hopefully a fix to the problems some people were having with cpuminer.

Just an FYI, the 1.4.6 beta has the 2.3.1 version of CPUminer... Pooler's up to 2.3.2 now Wink

Also, is there a way we can run the different miner windows off of different JSON config files?  Right now they all share the same BTC and LTC manual configs, and it makes it more difficult to use MacMiner's version of all the different miners at the same time (like when mining BTC & LTC split among ASIC/GPU, CPU).  For now, I'm still running a separate version of minerd just so I can specify my own config separate from BFGMiner/ASIC/FPGA settings.  And that goes for cgminer too when I tried to experiment with LTC mining on my GPU (wasn't pretty...no matter what settings I used I kept getting lower Hashrate than my CPUs...but thats a story for another thread Smiley ).

I've just downloaded and installed MacMiner beta 1.4.6 but I cannot find any release notes… what's changed?

Hey, thanks for trying the beta, I only post about beta versions here when they're released then when they become stable I add the changes to the release notes and update github. From above:

Quote from: me!
1.4.6 beta just out is moving towards not needing to be in the Applications folder, I may have missed one or two references in the app but I want to know whether it works properly for everyone.

It also updates bfgminer to the 3.1.3 version i posted before, and BFG Miner and FPGA/ASIC Miner windows now restart automatically if the miner stops unexpectedly. If everything is good the next version will also restart if you have over 100 and over 50% rejected shares. A notification will popup to let you know what happened and when. When that's done I'll release a new 10.6 version.

I'm trying to run MacMiner 1.4 , for 10.6.8, on a late 2006 Mac Mini, it's got the original 1.66 CoreDuo processor.  I've downloaded it and once extracted the app has a circle/slash and if clicked upon gives a message that this app is not supported on this type of mac.  I've just skimmed through the entire thread looking for something specific to this and nothing caught my eye.  I was also looking for a link to an earlier version in the hopes that I could try that.
Hmm, I must have compiled without 32 bit support, the first few intel Macs were 32 bit - I'll look at fixing that in the next update, thanks for the report!

Thanks for the effort with MacMiner!

Sucks not to have a temperature reading for those ASICs but I guess there's always the sensors in your hands  Cheesy

I just got an upgraded Jalapeno order from September 2012 - had to get to the UK and through customs but it's hashing away nicely at almost 7.5Gh even on my p2pool node since the last update, it's running at just 44˚C with a 28˚ room temp so I'm hoping for a firmware update that's going to get a bit more out of it! the units are nice, once they arrive… looks a bit like the Apple TV on steroids!

Yeah, no temp sensor on the Block Erupters...  Sad

Hopefully I'll be able to make good use of your Temp reading in MacMiner when I get my BFL units.... Sometime in 2025 or so.  *sigh*

That's pretty awesome, thanks! I'm curious about the lack of a temperature reading though, do you know whether the units have temp sensors?

no they don't have temp sensors Undecided

McMiner actually uses the C API to get the temperature for the FPGA/ASIC window, I definitely have plans to introduce a native display of that, but I guess in the meantime it would be quick and easy just to include the php version in a window. I'll try to get that in to the next version!

I think I'll go with a new window, it could be good to have all the miners together for people using more than one (like me!). Larger numbers of devices are a bit tricky but with a few sort options it should work well…

It would be great to see the multiple miners show their stats together for all my devices mining on the same box, especially if they were connected to different pools and mining different coins (i.e., Bitcoin & Litecoin)!
Can't wait for the above feature (literally) Smiley   So....

I checked out the default PHP api example provided with BFGMiner by default and it's actually pretty extensive/complete (at least for just BFGMiner tracking alone).
I did a quick setup and customization on my local mining controlling box... enabled authenticated remote access... and now I can check the status of my Bitcoin mining remotely from any web browser and it even comes with a mobile view.  Only took me 45min or so connected remotely to my box via iPad by a swimming pool (it was a nice sunny day).

And here's a bigger view of what's provided in the API PHP page: http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/11139673/mining_status.png

I'd still like to see an implementation worked into MacMiner with support for the various miners, but this will have to suffice for now.

Also, I posted a video of my installation of 6 new ASICMiner USB Block Erupters (in addition to my previous 2) and it somewhat features your MacMiner software as well Wink

This error has prevented me from using the macminer to mine litecoins.

dyld: Library not loaded: /Applications/MacMiner.app/Contents/Resources/curl/lib/libcurl.4.dylib
  Referenced from: /Users/hollyschneider/Downloads/MacMiner.app/Contents/Resources/bfgminer/bin/bfgminer
Reason: Incompatible library version: bfgminer requires version 8.0.0 or later, but libcurl.4.dylib provides version 7.0.0

Would anyone be able to explain to me what to do in order to fix this?
Please move MacMiner.app to your Applications folder. This should be fixed in the next version!

MacMiner MUST be in your Applications folder and named MacMiner.app to function properly

Regarding this, why not use install_name_tool and @loader_path macro to fix the issues with the dependent libraries paths of the main executable?
It's just a suggestion, unfortunately for a few weeks I won't have the time to learn GitHub and try to modify the MacMiner Xcode project by myself. Undecided
I have started switching over but it hasn't been as the top of my list, it's just cpuminer so far set up that way but I'll get everything switched for 1.4 stable!

I'll add a feature to restart the miner automatically too and change the ? help screens to show the same help window then update the 10.6 version in line!

A problem I am having with 1.3.17 is it will randomly stop mining. The start button shows when I discover this. If there a command that can be added that detects its stopped and starts it again?

In linux I use: while true; do ./bfgminer; sleep 20; done

If it gets interrupted for any reason it just restarts 20 seconds later. this has saved me countless times. I believe the miner stops when the network connection is interrupted for some reason.

Any solutions?

I should have add that (on Lion) I cannot use 1.3.17 stable because cgminer errors with the following message:
Code:
dyld: Library not loaded: /Applications/MacMiner.app/Contents/Resources/curl/lib/libcurl.4.dylib
  Referenced from: /Applications/MacMiner stable/MacMiner.app/Contents/Resources/cgminer/bin/cgminer
Reason: Incompatible library version: cgminer requires version 8.0.0 or later, but libcurl.4.dylib provides version 7.0.0
It seems that the dynamic loader cannot load Lion's libcurl library because MacMiner has been compiled targeting Mountain Lion and greater.

Oh, I'm sorry, forget this since I didn't notice your bold alert in the first post and it happens only when MacMiner.app has been renamed or installed on a path different than /Applications, indeed.

Could you please give it a shot with stable 1.3.17? I'm pretty sure that will work for you until I get the beta version updated

The stable 1.3.17 version works fine.

Another little glitch is that clicking on the question mark icon in the cgminer window does nothing, both in v1.3.17 and v1.4.5.

Is this with the specific 10.6 1.4 version? If so I'll update it asap!
