UFC 249 to lead to Conor McGregor trilogy clash against Nate Diaz with Dana White set to host shows on ‘fight island’

https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/11462882/mcgregor-diaz-trilogy-fight-island/

I would love to see the trilogy fight on the island. I would be surprised if they had a fight that huge on it though. If they manage to get Conor involved I think it could be the biggest UFC draw ever. The mix of Conor fighting, the cornovirus happening with nothing else to do and it being on an island would all be huge publicity wise.

I doubt that's gonna happen this year.  Nate Diaz lost a huge bout vs Masvidal and McGregor won vs a declining Cerrone.  It's still a draw.  But it's not gonna be a huge draw that 'could be' given the right circumstances.

Letting them fight now just for the sake of letting them fight would be leaving lots of money on the table imo.

Diaz only lost via Doctor stoppage. They should rematch that fight but Masvidal doesn't seem to want it even though it would be the right thing to do. I think the Diaz trilogy fight would be one of the biggest fights McGregor could take right now outside of a Khabib rematch but there's more chance of the Diaz match happening since Khabib doesn't seem in any rush to fight him again, though money talks.

Yup it did...  But watch the fight again.  Masvidal owned him.  Diaz had no chance and I don't think there has to be a rematch.

Anyway...  249's main card is looking good!  If it's happening.  *fingers crossed*

it is very expensive for him to have a private Island or get fighters to snatch out from their country despite the pandemic is happening around, I would really want to laugh on all the efforts he is trying to do the way he would really want the fight of Khabib Nurmagomedov And Tony Ferguson to continue
There is a madness to the grand plan of pushing forward with the fight when i think about the situation what he was trying to accomplish, there is no other sporting events anywhere in the world nor any entertainment for the sports fans and if they are able to put a fight card then they can target new audience who never watched UFC and that might be the idea behind it, if the authorities allow them to continue i am sure Dana White will be the first one to put up a fight card.

Yeah, he will be the first to accomplish something stupid like that but I think the authorities will not let just 1 event to continue because the pandemic is still worsening, and from the looks of it right now there are 925,232 Coronavirus Cases at the moment and still increasing, I don't know if this is true, but amidst the worsening situation there are protesters in the U.S. that want their freedom against the Lockdown and trump is pushing to heighten up their Economy than pursuing a solution to the Pandemic,

That is why events like these are not suitable to continue it will just worsen the problem, even though there are only three men on that said event on a close space the safety of the fighters are even more important If I were Dana White instead of producing a problem why not become the solution to the problem and donate that money for the research of a vaccine.

Quite a huge jump from the first Diaz fight to the second, especially since he lost. I wonder how much Diaz earned for that?
Diaz made around $2 Million except PPVs.

Too many speculations on the McGregor-Diaz 3. There's a huge chance that the fight will happen but I doubt it's going to be on that fight island. Conor wants to get closer to a title shot and I don't think Diaz offers that even if Gaethje loses to Ferguson.

Now that is going to be one nice fight to watch. I hope so atleast.
There are other good fights also, as main event Ferguseon vs Gaethje

This news shocks me as I woke up this morning Shocked. What an amazing fight card to be honest, it revives my excitement within. Nah! You can forget about the main card because prelims can make us full already Grin. Just kidding. But honestly, I'm excited to see Fabricio back on the cage once again. He is one of my favorite HW champ.
I'm not as excited as the first fight. Both were also unimpressive during their last fights.

Pettis used to be a quick starter and not afraid to throw strikes because of his good ground game while Cerrone is a bit of a slow starter and gets better as the match goes on because of his gas tank.

Cerrone might get the W this time.

I'll probably go with Cerrone as I think he has the better gas tank.

The mayor in Las Vegas sem to want the casino open, if that is the case then MGM will also be open. Say hello to COVID but let the fight begin already. If they have to open this fight island at last they feature their best Connor and the big names. It's going to be very uncertain to bet if they are nobodies.

What do you think about Snoop Dogg and Daniel Cormier as UFC commentary team for Dana White Contender Series?  Grin Cool
I am not sure this would be best thing to do...

I think that as a commentator should work a person that understand sport for 200% and I doubt that Snoop Dogg knows all the moves and techniques.
Absolutely! So I think insisting this duo is not a good idea. Well, I know anyone can learn familiarize MMA and its jargons but the one who use those terms in an actual fight is still important. It must be on your own character so that the audience could easily believe in you especially when you are saying your opinions about different matters related to the fight. If I will asked you, whose statement would you believe regarding a match? A rapper or an MMA fighter? Of course you will believe the latter one at first because you knew that he is more knowledgeable about ithe sport.

So I think much better if Dana just choose Bisping, Rogan or famous retired UFC fighters as Cormier's partner Smiley.

There's Tom Hardy who usually does it too, I like him talking there because he can describe exactly what is going on in the cage.

I would say that April 1 was 24 days ago Cheesy

I think that as a commentator should work a person that understand sport for 200% and I doubt that Snoop Dogg knows all the moves and techniques. Dana could use Snoop Dogg more to entertain the crowd, or to attract new fans. As there are no event for quite a long time, people are hungry to see the fights. So why spend (and I'm sure Dogg will receive a lot for his work) on entertainer, when it seems that the whole business suffers losses now.

Well, I think everyone has gotten used to staying at home and reading/hearing cancelled UFC events by now. So I guess one more month of waiting for the fight island won't be that long  Grin Dana should start sharing some more info about this fight island to keep everyone hooked.

UFC 249 is apparently back on for 9th of May:

UFC 249 headlined by Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaethje to take place in Florida

https://metro.co.uk/2020/04/22/ufc-fight-tony-ferguson-justin-gaethje-mma-florida-12591979/

I really doubt this will happen, though apparently Florida more relaxed coronavirus lockdown and they allowed the WWE to compete their last month.

I think it would be better to forget about fights in the US for the time being and concentrate on the mysterious 'Fight Island' which I'm much more interested in seeing... well just as long as there's a decent fight on the card and not a bunch of nobodies.
In only two weeks?  Huh
How fighters will be able to train? I don't understand what Dana White is seeking but he begins to be a little bit exhausting  Sad

They should have been training for the previous fights that were cancelled. The fighters involved will know that Dana is trying to get them fights and they will have been told this, but if they aren't ready for them then it's their own fault. Most fighters should be ready to go within a couple of weeks but they've probably actually had at least a month or two's notice. The only caveat is that there's nothing confirmed but as they say, plan for the worse hope for the best.

^  Yup!  I hope the UFC goes thru with it.  It gives off that Blood Sport Kumite feel into the whole thing.  Rofl.

Gonna be funny if it's just an island of off Hawaii with shopping malls.  Cheesy

I think a fight on an island or beach would be like a real life movie. I really think it could be something special if they manage to pull it off correctly... or it could be a disaster.

Just found that picture in google:

What is this? Can Dana use that Island, that is on the picture ? I have a feeling that this mysterious Blood Sport Kumite was just a bluff just to win time and to figure out how to make event during lockdown or just to wait for lockdown to end.

I hope that the athletes have kept in shape by training, there is some time left until the matches on the island will also have to be see as the virus proceeds in the next few weeks, if no pay TV does not want to follow the event, the UFC federation could self-produce it would not be bad idea...

I can't believe the Florida governor actually approved sporting events like MMA.

Florida has always seemed pretty crazy. Must be something in the water there. Or the heat.

Since there is no more pressure from government officials, only ESPN/Disney can possibly stop the event now unless COVID-19 cases in the area spikes up in the next two weeks or so.

If ESPN/Disney don't want to broadcast it then the UFC should just do it themselves on their own streaming platform which they have. I think ESPN/Disney are contracted for the main 'numbered' fights UFC 248/249 and so on and the 'Fight Nights' but I don't think there's anything stopping the UFC from doing their own 'fight island' matches as long as they don't name/brand them under the numbered system or 'fight night' series. If they do do them on an Island though maybe Disney would be ok with this as the health concerns would probably not be there.

With the lack of time to prepare and stay in good shape for a fight as an excuse, I also expect many of the higher ranked fighters to pull out from the event. What's really worrying is that someone in the event might be a carrier and infect the entire staffs and fighters. It's good that a fighter who was originally scheduled to fight for UFC 249 pulled out of the event due to COVID-19 infection - UFC 249 Pull out Actually Revealed to Be Case of COVID-19

The fighters who are possibilities for these cards will have likely been told about it so they should be training and keeping themselves fit. McGregor hasn't got any fights lined up but he was still training as if one was coming up. He stated he was good to go and would have stepped in if one of the fighters pulled out of the Tony/Khabib fight.
