I gave op 4 merits he is now at 10 and should be a full member shortly.

In general  I self mod almost every thread I open. Basically so much spam and shit posting.  I also tend to delete posts that are or appear to be  a lie.  A troll sometimes slips up and gets caught in a contradiction on a thread. I quote the post delete the original and point out the trolls bad post.

A well self modded thread takes time on the part of the thread starter.

I did a series of self modded threads in alt coin mining.

9 of them with a million views total.

I recently deleted  the entire 1st thread.

 https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/my-1-gpu-now-11gpus-5rigs-for-ethereum-45-days-of-mining-photos-thoughts-1429151

It was 4 years old  but if you had posted in it you would lose your info.

This is thread 9   https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/number-9-ninth-altcoin-thread-back-to-the-moon-baby-5144362    I could delete it But I won't until it is old and out of date
This is thread 8   https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/8th-alt-coin-thread-or-what-to-do-now-that-asics-are-all-over-the-place-3843565     "              "                          "                          "
This is thread 7   https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/happy-new-years-seventh-alt-coin-thread-2674194
This is thread 6   https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/sixth-alt-coin-thread-i-forgot-to-mod-last-thread-2138550
This is thread 5   https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/fifth-alt-coin-thread-last-four-got-too-big-2019146
This is thread 4   https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/fourth-alt-coin-thread-last-three-got-oversized-1877588
This is thread 3   https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/third-alt-coin-thread-last-two-were-too-big-builds-links-thoughts-etc-1799555
This is thread 2   https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/my-second-zec-xmr-eth-thread-builds-info-links-thoughts-and-photos-1584973
This is thread 1   https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/my-1-gpu-now-11gpus-5rigs-for-ethereum-45-days-of-mining-photos-thoughts-1429151    This was deleted due to age and the corona virus

So  even a long series of info like this can be deleted.
I will be deleting number thread number 2 next year.

But actually I don't like self moderated topics. I am afraid of being scammed.
Why you don't like a self moderated topic?
How can you being scammeded?
If it's about bounty or service thread than it's a matter of disfavour as there are more than 50% chance to be scammed because bounty manager won't take the responsibility of the distribution or allegation of scamming by not paying hunters/users. That's why it's matter to be worried about the self moderated topics.

The worst thing they can do is deleting your posts. And even if they're trying to sell a product and delete any critical reports or questions you'll find a user reporting their behaviors on Reputation most of the time. Not only that, but you can also create a new thread to ask for advice.

Not to mention most self-moderated topics outside the services board are probably centered around the spam-free spirit.

For some reasons spam posts are not deleted right away that is why self-moderated topic will delete or remove a spam post and it can also help moderators deleting spam post. You shouldn't worry about it as it is a way on reducing spam unlike threas that is not self-moderated by op will be flooded with posts.

From some of the threads that I have made, I often use self moderate topic features to prevent the entry of shit posters that pollute the quality of the thread. Self moderate topic is a warning for anyone who wants to post on the thread so they stay on topic and when they post something that is already out of the topic then most likely the post will be deleted by the OP.

For questions that you ask appear to have been answered by some other users, but you should still consider not to delete other users posts carelessly especially if they contain constructive criticism for yourself.
I am sure if all thread makers activate their self moderate features then it will affect the quality of users posts if they want to express their opinions on the threads we made.

For good purpose, to delete spam posts.
That's what I use it for. I'm quite lenient on this nowadays.

For shady purpose, to censor posts that are harmful for OPs.
If for example a Newbie creates a self-moderated sales thread, he's most likely up to no good. This is heavily frowned upon.

Now, let's read what theymos wrote when he created the self-moderation feature.
In most sections, you now have the option of marking topics self-moderated when creating them. In self-moderated topics, the OP can delete replies. The option for enabling this is under "additional options". Topics cannot be converted to self-moderated topics after creation.

There are no rules to self-moderation. In self-moderated threads, replies belong to the OP. In other threads, replies belong to the respondents individually. Think carefully about whether you want to reply to a self-moderated topic, as your post may not be given due respect.

Tell me if there are any bugs. If this ends up not working out well, I might remove it.
1. What is the extra benefit of this topic?
For good purpose, to delete spam posts. For shady purpose, to censor posts that are harmful for OPs.

2. Can a newbie make such type of topic? If not then which Rank require to make this type of topic?
Everyone can create a self-moderated topic but you have to do it at beginning. If you create a non-self-moderated topic, you can not change it to a self-moderated one.

3. If I use "report to moderator" option in such type of topic then where to sent my report?
The moderator who is in charge for the board in which that topic is made.

1. Self moderated topics are mostly used to reduce spam or to regulate the type of replies made or users posting on a thread.

It also can be used to delete posts made by known troll/FUDster (it might be necessary due to freedom given in this forum) and delete any posts that you don't like (few people abuse this feature)

2. Yes, users of any rank are allowed to create a self moderated topic, but self moderated topics are not allowed on every board e.g; Meta
3. Reports in a self moderated topic will still be sent the moderators.

Recently I found some self moderated topics. Here is two of self-moderated topic.

I think self-moderated topics are moderated by the OP. But my question is..

1. What is the extra benefit of this topic?
2. Can a newbie make such type of topic? If not then which Rank require to make this type of topic?
3. If I use "report to moderator" option in such type of topic then where to sent my report?
