Dharwad International School in Karnataka is the first school offering a facility of Bitcoins for their annual fees. The population of 1.25 billion, is set to overtake China’s by 2022 – and India’s remittance industry is calculated at a massive $50-70 billion. Experts are touting India as home of the next Bitcoin boom.

Didn't know that earlier, do other schools also accept bitcoins ?

I never knew this. Considering its been one year since this article, it's really good to know that Bitcoin is being used for all purposes. This is amazing hope more shall follow soon.

The article is a year old and it seems more like a publicity stunt.
They are using a payment processor to accept/convert bitcoins into fiat.

This is really cool  Grin it's great to see that someone do care about bitcoin, especially when they bring it to education. I hope this school will inspire other schools and let people know about bitcoin more and see it as something good and potential not something that deals with illegal activities.

Even if only one merchant accepts bitcoin, It is considered as a good thing cause it helps bitcoin to be more widely known and used.
And now even schools accepts bitcoin too, Makes me look forward to the future of bitcoin more and more.

Seems like other schools also accepts bitcoin:

Are your serious? It's great that the India school is accepting Bitcoin. This can help promote Bitcoin as India is one of the biggest technology hub in Asia. I really hope that more business in the education sector will be accepting Bitcoin soon. Smiley.

This is a great example of how bitcoin can benefit those in all corners of the earth, education is extremely important and a good starting point.

Education and Healthcare are the two very important necessities in the modern times. Being an Indian myself I felt sad seeing not many online merchants here accepting bitcoin yet. But I was delighted when I read this news from another fellow forum user. I hope more such institutions accept bitcoin along with other services like Hospitals, Marketplaces, Shopping Complexes etc.

Interesting, but I doubt many people from the Western World are studying in India. It's not very reputed.
It doesn't matter. India soon will be Bitcoin super power along with the China. For example: recently Zee News one of the largest Indian news networks presented show about bitcoin.
They hinted that Bitcoin has potential to reach $10k soon. Cryptocurrency is becoming very popular form of investment in India and it is only a beginning.

That's interesting because I also think that Bitcoin has that potential. Although I don't think it will happen soon I'm almost sure that in 5 years or so it is pretty much possible.

India is a great and underestimated country in the Western world because we mostly have the pictures from the poorest regions on this country.

The school I teach at will take bitcoin. It hasn't happened so far, but the owners have some BTC and they see the light.  Cool

Do you mind sharing which school you are teaching at? I have heard about colleges and universities offering students the opportunity to pay for course fees and tuition fees with Bitcoin so Bitcoin is gaining popularity among higher education institutions as well. I have heard  also that people can take a course about Bitcoin 101 and pay for it with Bitcoin so cool  Cheesy

Interesting, but I doubt many people from the Western World are studying in India. It's not very reputed.

Bitcoin is more needed in India with it's overall poor citizens and millions of people < 233 million in 2015 > that are excluded from the banking system. < The so-called unbanked  > So the fact that schools in India are accepting and using this technology, is a giant step forward for them. Let's hope this gets more traction and they implement this all over India.

The micro payment option, will be more suitable for poor people. ^hmmmmm^

I thought it sounded very interesting. where the school can accept bitcoin as a facility for school fees. I have not heard in a country like a great idea it was. Other countries may one day be able to follow such a good idea. it will make it practical as possible Smiley

Not many schools have accepted bitcoin here in India till now. Good to see Karnataka taking the lead in them Smiley

I hope other schools, colleges and hospitals will start to accept it soon enough. Bitcoin is not very popular in my city though, now it seems there is a ray of hope that it will become more popular here as well.
