NEO and ETH are the most cool altcoins at the moment. They are competitors and as you can see that their price is keep on going up which is a great sign for a great competition. Investing in them is a good idea, you can get a good profit.
I hesitate between purchase of two coins it at present:
Ripple (XRP) and NEM (XEM), but I think that I will rely on both, and time will show.

I don't have a top 2 but I have only a TOP 1 COIN to invest into 2018. I recently found out about VESTARIN and I was amazed to see where ICO's are heading for now. The only two altcoins that I would suggest is Ethereum and Litecoin because they are the ones that go up without much manipulation tells during a Bitcoin price increase.
ICX and ENJ.
ICX looks like it could take over the Korean market and ENJ could be the first big coin in gaming.

I do not buy anything now, because I do not have any spare money. But, if I needed something to buy now, then I would choose ADA, Qtum, AION. They have now fallen heavily in price. But very soon the market will begin its growth. These coins will not fall further and earn income.
During these volatile times look for a bit of certainty. Look for projects that are alive and kicking and have more ICO funds than market cap. Here I got a few:

Polybius (PLBT) - 120 million vs 35 million.
Pluton (PLU) - 35 million vs 20 million.
PROOF Dashboard (PRFT) - 11 million vs 3.2 million.

My top ICO for investment is TokenGo, their tokens will increase in value after entering the stock exchange x10 sure 
Everybody has a favorite altcoins, they are quite bias enough to their respective altcoin. But if I were to give my opinion, you should choose an ICO coin specially PINCOIN - not because of this is my signature but because of I am an investor, PINCOIN is so much demand right now, @ rounds of presale and first round of ICO was sold out in just a minute. You could verify it for yourself.
And what was the cause of such an excitement around this project? If coins sold for one minute, it seems to have been waiting for a long time, and all investors kept everything under control. 
IOTA and XRB. Both are undervalued now and both are bount to take off when the next wave of interest to private coins/dags will emerge.

ADA or the Cardano and the second coin is NEO. ADA because it comes with a great concept and idea while I like neo because its a fee free network. If we are seeing network fees as a problem the neo platform will provide the best solution with reduced network times. what are 3 good altcoins to look into that will see great return within the next 3-6 months.
I believe that the most promising investment for today is the purchase of coins by NEM and NEO.
NEM - It is a super project, before which the doors in Japan are widely opened, and NEO will probably be chosen by the Chinese government as the only legitimate platform for ICO in China.
I'm sure that both platforms will be shot in 2018 !!!

Now I'm investing in Ethereum and NEO. These 2 currencies are necessary for me to take part in ICO. The coins that I buy on ICO and presale, I keep as a long-term investment. However, after rumors and statements of Korea, you can buy any altcoin. They are all in the red zone.

I think a potential altcoin is a bitboost whose early debut appearance in coinmarketcap has made eyes fixed on it. because it has a fairly high price with a circulating supply of 4,862,878 BBT which will potentially become altcoin with high price in 2018. I'm still waiting as the holder

Now the best time to invest in Moneo and Dash.Because it's the very good potential coin if you see the chart in coinmarketcap.com. you will easily understand why should it to buy.it's value now under it's demand.although recently Dash coin increased but still now it can buy to sure profit in future.
