There is a lot of love for quality new members. It's the spambies that are the ones that the rules are intended to control. I suspect a lot of the 150-200 are spambies promoted by their alts and sponsors. I think the good news is that the new rules highlight these members and their puppet masters. If there are too many, then the next stage will have to be sig removal for juniors.

The site needs quality posts because it is really needed for a better advertising of products and or projects. And so many are just spamming and giving off merits to their alts just to rank it up. I think this system could probably go up in time where juniors will really be stripped off of their signature. And certainly this will help clean the system of newbies and juniors who are not really making good post. I think it will be good to see higher ranking forum member's posts in the site so that they can act as a good example.

I think that was a good decision for some high ranking member to show compassion to those who really deserve to acquire even for 1 merit. <…>
Compassion should not be part of the equation. Merit is not awarded on a compassion basis, but rather on the post’s content and, increasingly so (and even more now days), the poster’s posting history track. The main problem may reside in finding those to merit, and not being put-off in the process by those other posts that make your eyes sour. That is probably the main challenge of the non-merited with decent posts on their back: being spotted among all the large amount of non-contributive posts.

Some of the ranks are not quite correct for some of the members. For instance  - I ain't no Hero.  Grin

Because..

- the rank that is based on the amount of merits regardless of the current activity

And you have hero merits..

I think that was a good decision for some high ranking member to show compassion to those who really deserve to acquire even for 1 merit. Though, the rules are rules and we need to follow it as this has it's purpose that could change and improve the forum to be more free from spammers. I believe that by continuing the effort in contributing good informative post could harvest a merit reward unexpectedly. Just keep in doing what you believe in, for there will be time for you to be rewarded with your hardwork.

So, 1637 promotions in less than a week, huh? Aren't we, as a community, becoming too generous, too soon?
...

For sure some are being too generous and/or naive.

Looks like some of these merited newbie got their merits from red trusted people, so as a result of some "private arrangement".

For sure some are being too generous and/or naive. I purposefully went back to threads I have been following a long time and singled out some of the contributors there, rather than award most of my sMerits to newbies that showed up in meta to "praise" the new changes by "thermos."

Furthermore, I wrote a thread within a few hours of theymos' instituting the new merit requirements for jr. members that warned people to check the post history of any newbies before awarding them a merit to make sure they weren't (re-)enabling their ability to shitpost for sig campaigns, which is basically what you are saying here (so I naturally agree with you).

That particular cat is out of the bag at this point, though... Now I suppose we will just have to wait a month or two or six to see if the new merit requirement is actually effective at reducing spam megathreads.

Nice to read something positive in meta section here. Otherwise , it is usually filled with posts against merit system (these days against the recent change regarding jr member) .

Please let's not use timing as a criterion for abuse. I often open a bunch of +Merit in tabs and then just submit them all and I'm sure I'm not alone doing that.

Agreed, the timing alone is not a solid criteria for abusers.

It seems that puppet masters are rushing to regain control of their puppet army after new rules and this most likely will be their downfall in anycase Wink

Thankyou for the list, I can see many abusers here, it will a long work to report them all, also if you can update those data next week with next datas! It will be very fast way to find them out!

I've already found 2 abusers with this list, I will post the accusation later.

So, 1637 promotions in less than a week, huh? Aren't we, as a community, becoming too generous, too soon? I mean, the changes are still too new, but the promotions are going in a very high speed. The people, that have never even thought about the concept (Merit system) itself, are being promoted right after the demotions only because they have started to "show" they care about it all, while they don't from the inside (at least most of them don't). And I'm not only talking about the ones who are farmers and are promoting their own accounts, but some other accounts are also getting into the crowd by such actions, which is not good for the community.

Maybe we should wait for some time before starting to do all this. Even if we see a new user posting something decent, we should take our time in taking the responsibility of promoting them to the next tier where they might start abusing the system again.

P.S: I don't intend to hurt anyone's feelings by saying any of this. My statements are general, and are not against any single user. Anyone reading this should not take any of it personally, please.

Arguments are welcome.

I thought I would have "supported" more Newbies than just 3, but indeed, after checking my merit history, this is correct. It is much easier to Merit higher ranks than finding the rare good Newbie posts.

The past red trust, the change of merit awarding behaviour shortly after new restrictions and the timing of merit awarding with 20 sec intervals is enough factors for me to think that it is farming after all.
Please let's not use timing as a criterion for abuse. I often open a bunch of +Merit in tabs and then just submit them all and I'm sure I'm not alone doing that.
Even better: I try to do it as fast as possible Cheesy

Please note the changes I made to your quoting to make your post more readable and less of a wall of text; you did not need to quote the entire list made by Coin-1 to illustrate the use of colored text to denote untrusted/trusted/neutral feedback. Also, don't use colored text for your reply as it almost always makes it less easy to read and greatly annoys some members (Jet Cash, in particular, is not fond of changing text color or size in a garish attempt to stand out - and many agree with him, including me).

Thanks for the advice?

Isn't this interesting to be seen as the original?

Except for color blind people who don't like color, From 100, maybe in  only 1 is color blind.

Thank you again for the advice of a good posting procedure.

Cool info! Interesting how 150-200 have all pretty much provided two merit to newbies, which shows there isn't that many people sharing the love for newbies out there (or there are alot of trash newbie accounts and no one wants to give them merit!)

I generally lurk more than post, but these 'rule changes' that, from what I can tell, are meant to prevent spamming, seem to be getting everyone super annoyed. Like your level/rank makes any difference to posting or reading this forum?!

Well that was quick! Have you manage to retrieve already all the user profiles for all TXs right up to this morning in order to do this ?

Yes, I prepared the analysis in advance. I created this thread as soon as the new dump of merit transactions has been published.

Also, I'm not sure why their are only 53 on the top 200 list..

Now there are 200 members in the list. Smiley

Good job, you marked already the known or safe givers as well i see, so it will make it easier to run some check on these.  Smiley

I wrote the merit sources known to me in bold, now I just marked the red tagged members in italic.

Therefore I decided to create TOP-200 of the members who support decent newbies which make useful posts and contribute to the forum development. Of course, the list likely contains merit traders and account farmers, but I suppose that most of these members give merits to newbies
I saw a lot of controversy about the Merit that was given and got by the Newbie, I do not blame this new system, it is even better with this new system, especially for more Beginners (professionals) in implementing posts on the Bitcoin Talk Forum. With so many good comparisons to know that it's not good to get a Merit I remembered one thing that stated about giving or giving alms:

"Hasn't Allah made various ways for me to give charity? Every sentence of tasbih is alms, every sentence of takbir is alms, every sentence of tahmid is alms, every sentence of tahlil is alms, amar ma'ruf nahi munkar is alms, even on one's genitals there are alms from servants.

"Jesus Then he sent the crowds to sit on the grass. And after he took the five loaves and two fish, Jesus looked up to heaven and blessed, then broke the loaves and gave them to his disciples, then the disciples. His disciples gave it to the people ".

"That there is nothing eternal and eternal in this world, the hereafter is eternal and eternal, do good while we are in this world."

The bottom line:

This user is now a merit source I believe.
I am indeed.  I'm also out of sMerits and I'm waiting with bated breath till the day I get topped up.

I'm far down on this list, but I definitely support newbies IF they make good posts.  I've been hunting outside of Meta lately, looking for good ones by lower-ranked members (not just Newbies) and they are hard to find--and then there's the issue of having to check for plagiarism before giving someone merit.  I got burned once on this and almost got burned a couple of times, and it's annoying to say the least.

Getting new members here posting in the English section who can actually write well is so rare.  And it's rare when someone actually writes something that's interesting.  There are so many generic posts being written that I can't bring myself to merit them even if they make sense.  The newbies I actually sent merit to didn't write outstanding posts necessarily, but they were very good relative to the other ones in the threads they were posted in.

Note:  I don't think any of the newbies I merited were for posts in Meta in the last 3 days.  I haven't checked but I'm pretty sure.

I'm pretty sure that this account awards merit to newbies for thier good work. He is not giving without any beneficial post of the newbie.
